  1. Pretty hard to tell they like them all but have saved the turnips for last. They started hitting them a few weeks ago. Plots are about 50'x175'
  2. Plots were put in last year. Corn, Turnips and Beans. Love this picture!
  3. Thanks everyone for your help. He was out this morning for 3 hours and could not locate her. We had 3 inches of snow overnight which did not help the situation. Poor kid is so upset about this. I'm drilling into him to let the quartering to shots pass.
  4. My Nephew was hunting alone last night. He shot a huge doe around 3:40. Deer was slightly quartering to him. Arrow hit just behind the shoulder. He said it went in pretty far. He said the impact sound was like a balloon loosing all its air. The deer ran off with the arrow in it. After searching for two hours he did not find one drop of blood. I think the arrow may of deflected off of bone and headed further back not catching any vitals. He is headed back this morning to look some more. Thoughts? This is a picture of the doe taken from his trail cam before the shot. Red dot is where he said he hit the deer.
  5. 3 weeks a year is pretty good. I got 2 per year when I was let go. Good luck on the job search. Tell her to kick back a while and enjoy some time off.
  6. Sorry for your loss, he was too young to leave all of you.
  7. That big buck was moving pretty good on three legs.
  8. I have shot doe (2) 160 and 148. They are big gals for sure!
  9. It was 2 years ago that operator error caused me to not harvest a giant on 3 legs. This buck was shot opening morning by the neighbors. They blew off the left front leg below the knee of this 3.5+ deer. I saw him limping badly coming across the back of my property. He was a very wide buck with a lot of mass. He stopped at 50 yards or so and was deciding which way to go. He headed right for me. Came right under my stand so close I couldn't pick him up in the scope. Did another check took the safety off and squeezed the trigger. Nothing nada zero. Clicked the safety back tried again nothing. Now I look at the safety and click it over once more and still nothing. Somehow my 1187 auto loaded was jammed. At this point I pull the action back and slide it up with a new shell. Pull the trigger nothing. He starts to take off so I do it one more time and aging nothing. Deer is gone. I'm pissed and meet my brother and go over what happened. We unload the gun and put new shells in and it fired no problem. Here is what went wrong. When I loaded my gun in the stand that first shell didn't seat properly cause I had my hand on the action so it would make less noise. I did that on the second and third reload with the buck there. Lesson learned for sure. It's too bad nobody ever saw that buck again. He was a real nice one and probably met his demise with the Yotes.
  10. Tarheelsaint, I took this buck back in 99. Wish I had a beter picture but it is really similar to your deer. It even has all those bumps on the base of the rack. Perfect 10pt that got me in the book at 125.75. You have a nice deer there. FL
  11. I'm sitting here reading this drinking an aloe vera drink with some apple cider vinegar in it. Feel better already! lol
  12. Thought you had to be out to have the scope down your throat?
  13. I feel much better while I'm eating or drinking. At night it doesn't bother me. About 9-10 am the pressure in the throat starts then the slight burning.
  14. Tried Omerprazole and it didn't help. I'm on Pantaproprazole right now hoping that will help. I have to stop the coffee. I got better a month ago and went back to the coffee and it came right back. I guess alcohol is another no no?
  15. I have had this now for months. Regular doctor put me on meds it didn't help. ENT doctor put the scope down my throat all looked fine. He put me on another type of med and that didn't help. Got the pressure, lump in the throat feeling along with burning in the esophagus at times. Seems like Zantac helps it but doesn't cure it. Anyone else have this issue and was able to recover from it. Would love to hear some remedies to this problem. Thanks FL
  16. I'll ask my family from Ithaca. I have a niece that works in the Veterinary school. Why are you looking for this info Grow?
  17. Brother been boiling for an hour then covering it with a milk crate and power washing. They come out great.
  18. I planted White Spruce 8 years ago from the Saratoga nursery. We kept them in rows about 5 feet apart. I like what your saying about l shape that is interesting. FYI these trees have yet to be rubbed on. I was told before I planted that the deer don't like them which is true so far. I would try the l shape, good luck.
  19. We had a 5 year old at camp this year for opening day. My brother took him out opening morning, they both had plenty of orange on. Friday night prior to the opener I drilled it into everyones head the safety rules at the cabin especially with the little guy in tow. We all were on a group text so each hunter knew when someone was coming and going. Not once did I have to remind anyone to put their gun in a case or to unload out in the field not at the cabin. Alcohol was permitted after the guns were away………..Hope the Officer makes a quick recovery. I just can't believe the consequences of a bad decision or an illegal one all for the purpose of killing a deer.
  20. There are a lot of things that determine what a "good hunter" is. I truly believe some of us have a 6th sense. Having this keeps us in the game longer. You can sit for a long time know when to slow down and when to be out there. I have a buddy that comes up to my place. I have walked up to him a number of times within 20 feet. He never hears us. I have watched him stretch at his stand making all kinds of noise and movement. He wonders why he hasn't seen a deer. patience is a big aspect of hunting….just keep at it.
  21. She got the call last night at 8! She was accepted into the program and will be playing field hockey! She was over the top excited and so was I. She is such a hard worker and puts everything she has into whatever she does. So figuring out the drive to the cabin……I'll have to swing by Allentown first then head to Scranton, Binghamton then west to the cabin. lol
