  13. Technology plays a big role on these early reports. It looks like it is not the case here because it seems he posted from home that evening. I look at it this way: You hit a deer and it runs off. What to do? give it some time and then go look. In the past you might of gotten down and went to get a buddy to help look. These days your in your stand and you start to tell the world with texting even before you know what the outcome will be. It's natural this day and age, news is instantaneously. While posting what happened you open yourself to all kind of ridicule. It's sad but that is just the way it goes, from the school kid who gets bullied on instagram to the hunter on hauntingly.com.
  14. So much for the long range forecast, 56 on Sunday. Deer processor will be busy Saturday night for sure!
  15. I'll be at my spot at 6:00. I go the furthest so I settle in and 4 other hunters hit my woods setting up. They usually push deer down to me that's why I like to get in early. Hopefully they hang around for legal shooting time.
  16. Yea totally understand what your saying but it's not the case with some of the passes these guys are giving out.
  17. Now I have only bow hunted out east a few times many years ago. We gun hunted last year and took deer in January. Most bucks have dropped their horns by then. Because what I'm seeing out on the road and on another website I think this just might be the time to start bow hunting again on Long Island. In the last few weeks I have seen road kill deer in places you would not think they live. One huge buck was hit the other night right down the road from me, never thought I would see that. It seems many bowhunter are playing a game "who can pass on the biggest buck" this year. Some really nice deer getting a pass this year with the hopes of finding something bigger. I have seen trail cam picts of really really big deer so these guys know they are out there. You just might find me in a tree out east next year or better yet this year after all the reports I'm seeing!!
  18. Giving it one more shot this Friday. My place was plowed under mid bow season and it changed the travel routes. Will suffer this year to have corn in the next three. Saw some big ones and should of taken of them. Shot wasn't good and didn't hit any vitals. Saw a lot of small bucks and doe so I hope to connect for gun.
  19. We have rights all around us. The rule is to call and if you don't get an answer right away start tracking. Usually it's a courtesy call to let the other landowner (hunters) know you are coming through. I agree with the waiting for permission thing, that way no hard feelings. Every situation is different.
  20. Reminds me of my Father in-laws camp at Indian lake. Congrats!!
  21. The ultimate sacrifice, thank you!
  22. Roast was awesome. I know why I love this meat so much!
