  1. my friend is a police officer in a small town in Jersey and The school districts put so much pressure on the town to put one patrol car and one officer at every school all day long. this being said my buddy said that doing so only left one officer to cover any and all emergencies for the whole town...... Hummm Maybe that town is a good one to target to rob a bank with only one patrol car on the road for the whole town....
  2. well this might not have been the ideal way you wanted to fill your tag but it sounds like it was meant to be. Who knows how long that buck was there for in pain. and you were able to help it in the end. and you got a nice buck to eat as well. sometimes what you did in this situation can be more of a thrill then the hunt itself GoodJob!!!
  3. i would like to invest in a vaccume sealer
  4. so... kind of a funny story well to me at least. me my 2 hunting buddies are in the woods on a mountain. me and one other on top of mountain (hill) and the other on the lower part. my friend closest to me was about 150 to 200 yards off to my left and slightly behind me. 7:30 AMcomes and I hear a loud snort from my left then a boom from a 12 guage. no more than 2 seconds later a nice 7 point comes within 30 yards of me and stops I thought to myself this cant be the deer my friend just shot this must be another cuz he came to me waqy to quickly after the shot... anyways. I look at the standing buck and quick;ly look for sign of gun shot wound, bleeding, staggering etc... I didnt notice any of these so as he started walking away I blasted him in the front shoulder with my shotgun and he fell like a tons of bricks.. 30 seconds later I get a text from my friend that first shot say" dude we just shot the same deer" so I said ok no problem if he has 2 holes in him he is yours.... it turned out that we did shoot the same deer. I continue to wait and wait and wait and we set a time to leave the woods then come back later. a 1/2 hour before that time, i blow on my grut call and seconds after I got a response grut from up the hill more in the thickett. next I here this loud crashing noise through thethickett , then it just stops. Im waiting and turned toward that area with my shotgun ready and a few minutes later I see a buck coming out and walking down the hill paralell to me at about 75 yards he is broadside to me and I am trying to find an opening between all the trees finally i found one and a hair second before Ipull the trigger he turns quartering away from me but it was too late the round fired and I hit him in his A$$ about 1 inch right and 1 inch above his anus. .. OUCH... he fell then got up but luckly that got him to trott toward me then off to the side, I reloaded and put another round into his vitals and he dropped. a minute later hegot up again and started to walk away. at this point I am in shock and put another slug into his vitals which finally did him in. I thoght he was a 6pt but once I approached him He wasa very large bodied 8point and the last 2 slugs were heart shots.... anyway to make a long story short. this buck ended my 2 season dry spell. Ive been waiting for a nice wall mount and I finally got him. he was butchered today and tomorrow sent to the taxidermy for a shoulder mount. the only male deer I have ever harvested before this was a spike. hopefully these pictures will upload....
  5. Goodluck to all and to all a goodnight and an even better morning!!!
  6. yeah hunting for charity sounds great. This will be a good excuse for the wife so I can get out in the woods more!!! thanks for the idea
  7. dutchess is the same side as putnam orange(3m) is over the river and does not connect to dutchess. Newburgh is orange county and just over the newburgh beacon bridge is dutchess county
  8. I always get the extras. you never know when you will get lucky one day out hunting and bag 2 or more same.day although I have not had this happen for me yet, my friend has done this before.
  9. me and my buddies I hunt with do the same thing. However If im not mistaken it is illegal to hunt like this using walkie talkies........ even with ear pieces
  10. I would love to have an albino deer shoulder mount on my wall!!! great pic
  11. oh hey sorry about that man I had to poo real bad!!
  12. thats sounds real nice but I cant eat before I go hunting in the AM otherwise I will have to poo and be unconfortable the rest of the morning. All I have is my daily morning coffee
  13. lol a few of my friends that hunt/shoot didnt believe me, when I frist set it up.. untill they saw and held it... then they shot it at 120 yards and went and bought one of their own. anyways thanks for all those who gave advice / opinions on makes calibers etc. I will explore more into those brands. The only part of my original post that wasnt answered was the differences between the 700 models (ADL,BDL,CDL XCR,SRS) I realize some are more varmit than big game rifles
  14. its the H&R ultra slug hunter deluxe from the factory it comes with a heavy Bull barrel and weighted buttstock.and comes in about 13 lbs after sling scope and some slugs on the side of buttstock to about 15lbs
  15. I agree with you 100% about a good single shot. I used a single shot break action slug gun. Its a H&R ultra slug hunter deluxe. for being a shotgun I can get my slugs pretty close to touching each other at 120 yards. I love my shotgun and it is my go to gun for hunting. However, as a lefty shooter most of my rifles I do own are semi autos and are desgned for right handed shooters. My just want one lefty botl action rifle thats all. I dont need a .300 win mag but everyone wants the biggest gun(most of the time) I would go with a 270, 7mm, I just dont want to break the bank on ammo. I have even looked at and almost purchased a marlin 30-30 lever action, but didnt cuz I really want my lefty bolt action... I didnt know this thread was going to be such a big hit. lol very entertaining!
  16. I dont mind the heavy guns. My Slug gun I use is 15Lbs and I love the weight of it....To the other people who say 100 to 300 isnt really long distance. Let me refrase, the fields I have available to me are 100 to 300 yards. I would like a rifle that not only will be (one-holers) but will also be excellant at farther distances once dialed in correctly. I had a H&R survivor in .308 I have tried many different types of ammo out of it and the most accurate was at 50 to 75 yards.... However I tend to set blame to the barrel it was a 20". Now my buddy bought the H&R ultra hunter in .308 and after looking at all the specs comparing the two the only thing different internally and externally was the stock and the length of the barrel he had a 24" He was shooting the same ammo as I was and he was putting each bullet in the same hole one after the other. Price wise that H&R was great (279$) but the dont want another single shot break action. I have tried Remmy core lokt in 150 gr and 180 gr, winchester Power point in 150 and 180 gr hornady 165gr. etc most of the top manufacturers.
  17. I believe I can Fly, I believe I can touch the sky!!!!!!
  18. Most small game ( squirrels rabbits birds etcc) hunted with air rifles are shot in the head. Its the quickest kill shot there is for them. Their heart is so small that a heart shot is really hard. head shots offer a bigger target and a quicker kill I think most here will agree with me, thou I am no expert. if the 1377 is working for you then stick with that. a few weeks ago I shot a grey squirrel with a beeman break barrel .20 cal shoots at around 1000 FPS and I shot that squirrel in the head. It still flopped around for a good 20 seconds. Dont be worried about them flopping around after the shot, they are already dead and the flopping , or twitching is just their nerves. Deer twitch after shot sometimes as well. good luck!!
  19. Hey people, I have been wanting to buy a real nice left handed bolt action rifle for a while now. seems life gets in the way bringing you things you dont wanna deal with.. anyway. I really like the remington 700 rifles. was thinking in .270 or 30-06 both come in left handed. Thou I want a .308 unfortunetly it does not come in lefty. I want a real tack driver at long distances (100 to 300 yards) I want the longer 24" barrel however the thing I dont know is the difference between the 700 ADL and the 700 BDL. Gander Mountain recently had a sale on the remmy 700 ADL for $449.99 any thoughts or opinions or recomendations? I seen on remingtons website after making this post that there are also MANY other models. BDL, CDL, ADL, SPS XCR Im looking for a rifle for target and deer hunting They also have a 700 ADL .300 win Mag with a 26" barrel for $529.99
  20. This is what I use.: Dead Down Wind Antiperspirant DDW Laundry detergent DDW breath spray Scent Killer 99% colthing spray This has always worked for me. Sometimes I put out a doe urine scent wick near me to aid in masking my scent.
  21. I use a breath scent over. I forget the name of it but I got it at gander mountain. its like a little bottle with a pump spray. I like it and believe it does work for a bit. I find I do have to reapply after a few hours. It comes in a orange bottle
  22. wow great pics. I would love to take a crack at the buck in the 7th picture down. He doesnt have the most antlers out of these pic but his body is huge
  23. i tried to buy .223 for my ar 15 and walmart wanted my rifle permit..... i said there was not such thing. after some debating with cashier and manager i was declined the sale and was not able to make the purchase. the next day my brother in law went to the same store and tried to buy .45 for his rifle and they asked for his pistol permit he told them it was for a rifle. the manager didnt believe him that some rifle shoot .45 he waws also not allowed to make the purchase
