  1. Most of the time, mouth calls. I like the higher pitched, not as raspy calls. But thats what works for me. I have had real good luck with slates and box calls too………Who knows?????? I can't figure the damn things out…LOL!
  2. Dead a$$ quiet in my area... 7F. I've hunted 4 days so far and have heard only one tom, that I screwed up on. Hunted the last few hours this morning and nothing. The hell of it is that, up until a few days before the opener, I had been seeing a lot of birds, including some nice toms. I can only assume that they are still henned up, big time.. Seeing a lot of deer though….LOL!
  3. Nice tom!! congrats…..
  4. My one spot in 7F has been dead quiet. So far I have only heard one gobble and that was on opening day around 830. I got too cocky and ended up bumping him. I know their out there. It can only get better.
  5. Damn!!! I remember, years back, I grabbed onto a tom, too soon, and his spurs tore right through the sleeve of my jacket. After learning from my mistake,,,,,,, I did the exact same thing last year………Get well soon.
  6. LOL!! Looks like that bird got drunk and fell over on his bar stool……..
  7. That stinks, but at least you know where they are. I finally got a tom to sound off, around 830 Thursday, and I ended up bumping him. Rookie mistake. Good luck
  8. A friend did a store bought bird that way, a few years back at a cook out he had. It was great…. Never tried it myself though.
  9. Old Bill should have said the same about Monica Lewinski……LOL!!! Lets not go there……..Sorry
  10. LOL!! …...Im getting there myself brother!! I still use a flip phone that I consider "high tech" and I still call marihuana "POT".
  11. Buy it and hunt with it….Don't worry about any "resale value". Thats BS. Owning and Hunting with an old, classic rifle is cool….Chicks dig it…..LOL!!!
  12. LOL!!! Funny stuff right there !
  13. Big ol Tom!! Congrats…..
  14. If the price is right…..BUY IT !! I had a 99 chambered in 300 Savage, that was made in 1950. Like an idiot, I sold it a few years back. It shot great and was in great shape. I got good money for it but still, I wish I kept it. They are great rifles and ones in 250-3000 (250 Savage) are some of the rarest & most desirable among Savage collectors. Grab it…… The 250 Savage is also a good deer round. I think it ranks right around the 243 Winchester.
  15. Outstanding!! I love to see , seldom reported, incidents like this. The antis will still pick it apart…."WHAT IF??...WHAT IF??...WHAT IF??…" What ever
  16. Hide the bird, just off a remote road somewhere, easy to find. Then call the DEC tip line and report it anonymously. Seems a shame to burn it and being honest, in this case, could bite you in the ars.
  17. As long as its before noon, head out.
  18. Yup..just one hen in open areas only.
  19. Years back I bought a 7 year old F-150 with only 30,000k on it. It was gorgeous. The owner went to Florida every winter and stored the truck here while he was gone. The thing fell apart right under me. Beware.
  20. I have a bunch of favorite ways….& smoking it is one. I made last years tom, a few weeks ago. Made creamed wild turkey & wild rice soup. It was WILD LOL!! Seriously though….good stuff..
