Just thought I would update my post. Upon checking my paperwork, I realized my initial applicatiion was Feb. 2012(not November '12) I am still waiting for my approval. It will be one year in another 2 weeks. My buddy was at the pistol permit office last week and said the line was 2 hrs long. This process is lengthy and cruel.

OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
PWGUNNY replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It is the first part of your comment that I feel will be the eventual outcome. The Government will eventually disarm us by piling on more restrictions as the current laws will prove to be ineffective. The backdoor method of gun control is to make it too expensive to want to own guns. This will be accomplished by annual registration fees and what Cuomo has already adopted. Many pistols are designed for more than 7 rounds. What will be the course of action to keep a 9mm pistol that can handle more than 7 rounds... pay for a new mag with lower capacity? What if there are none available? -
Do you have to register it every year at Home Depot?

OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
PWGUNNY replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Sogaard- Do you think the new gun laws will prevent gun violence? If gun violence continues, despite the newer restrictive gun laws, what do you think will happen? Will they repeal the laws that didn't work, or will they pass even more far reaching restrictions? -
Ok, I enjoy the pic, but I'm scratching my head trying to fully understand what I'm looking at. More description please.

Congrats on her first deer. Great to see that.

The reason for the confusion is the news reports were inaccurate from the beginning. That day as I watched it unfold, the victims went from 1, to 2, and then to 26. The final reports I heard were that all of the school victims were shot with the .223 and Lanza shot himself with a pistol. His mother was shot with a .22 rifle at here home. The rifle in the back seat of the car was actually a shotgun.

I'm pretty sure in NYS you can not hunt with a semi auto that handles more than 6 shells. So I imagine you use a 5 round magazine with the AR or the Ruger Mini?

Fly-fisherman turned Hunter-new to hunting and to NY
PWGUNNY replied to Dr Ignominious Death's topic in Introductions
Welcome. Just don't hang up the fly rods. There are seasons when you fish, and seasons when you hunt. I love all the outdoor sports. -
Right, I saw the title and thought it was a medical issue.
-
A recent report I read were 2 killed, 2 wounded. Shooter was a violent felon. A car fire had spread to the lakefront homes. Shooter was found dead by suicide on the beach. A tragedy for sure. I know I'd be asking why this guy was not in prison for all his priors.

RIght. There was way too much time to extract the nuts. Now when I watch the news reports of the speech, they of course focus on the nuts.
-
I watched the whole speech. There were two seperate protesters that held up big signs in front of the stage and yelled nonsense about the NRA killing the kids. I thought it would have made a great segue for Lapierre to go into the need to deal with the mental health issues in this country.
-
Here in Nassau County, I still await my approval for my pistol permit. Part of the delay is blamed on the agency in Albany that has to do a mental health history check on me. So I know at least for Nassau county there is a mental capacity check on handgun permits. I am also required to safeguard my pistols in a locked container(exa. handgun safe). The pistols in the CT shooting were legally owned by the mother, but poorly safeguarded.

So who would retire from deer hunting if this happened to you?
PWGUNNY replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
The guy seems pretty stupid. I'm glad he's retiring from hunting. -
Just drive a bucket truck into the woods and your all set.

A fellow hunter I know claims mountain lion sightings in NY and the discovery of deer carcasses in trees. Said only a mountain lion would drag it's prey up a tree. I have seen no proof but I still think it could be a rare possibility.

Well-There Goes Another 18,500 Jobs
PWGUNNY replied to 13BVET's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I liked it. Great movie. Woody Harrelson played a great character. Twinkies were also in demand on a "Family Guy" episode. It is a concept that Twinkies are so full of preservatives that they will survive a nuclear meltdown. I can survive without twinkies, just don't take away my chocolate ice cream. -
Big 8 pointer sounds promising Jimmy. Maybe I hung up the bow too soon. This Saturday I'll be pheasant hunting with the dog and Sunday I have to help with some maintenance at my outdoor archery club.
-
Not my cup of tea, but some may like it. I prefer sportbikes. Someday I may go the cruiser route but I would be a fan of a stock paint job.

Nice buck. Very unusual rack. Congrats

haha, in that first story, they also ticketed the wife that loaned out her deer tag. That boys gonna be in the dog house for sure. As for filling out the tag, I always struggle to get the damn pen to write on those tags. I didn't know that the tag could be filled out and remain unattached till transport. I was always filling it out and zip tying it to the ear before the dragging to the buck pole. Learn something new all the time.
