2017 live from the lake , ocean , pond , stream, river thread
moog5050 replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Fishing
Boat finally in, equipment found, new batteries installed, and gassed up. Due to high water, there is a 5mph limit on irondequoit bay. Forecast said 2feet or less on lake O. Sooooo, take afternoon off and head out. After a 45 min ride across the bay that usually takes about 7min, we head out of the channel and I knew it was a waste. I will fish in up to 2-4 footers but my pops much prefers 2' or less. The waves were on the high end of 1-3' maybe 2-4 and I could see my father was not happy. Short shot out and we turned back around for another 45 minute ride to dock. At least the weather was nice. No fish were harmed in this voyage. This is going to be the shortest fishing season ever on this boat. Rain predicted all weekend too. Gotta love it. That 3lb bass from the pond may be my biggest fish of 2017. Lol -
So are you ready or do you still have work to do ?

No worries. I am on a diet. May even bust below 300 at some point. Lol. I am good at testing hoists if you need help with that. -
Looks like it to me. Can see broken main beam in first photo too.
-
This just proves that you are so accurate that even when you try the screw up you can't. Lol. Sounds like you naturally bend at the waist Larry.

Just waiting for pygmy to finish my tower stand (with heat and grill)! Get er done! -
I was a bit concerned over putting a lag bolt into the trusses further weakening them as I know they are not intended to hold hanging weight, but from the photo of the tractor, looks like its not an issue.

Cool display. -
I think some people bend at the waist when shooting down without even thinking about it (especially if you lock that bow arm in the shoulder socket - nearly impossible to drop the bow arm for me). Others will drop their bow arm which is not correct resulting in a high shot (but unlikely to cause you to miss a deer completely at 20yds). Although I suspect that that woman had bigger issues than merely not bending at the waist. lol

Looks clean like that Belo. Nice

This is a fair point I had not thought about. I did shoot at one running doe that I pushed while tracking her that I wounded. Not my preference but there are times it may be needed even if one prefers to avoid running shots. We have also little success with pushes so that has not happened to me either. -

Which is pretty much like shooting at a bounding deer I imagine? Never shot at a deer on the run. I just ask nicely and they politely wait for me to shoot. -
Thoughts on Leupold Scopes
moog5050 replied to Uncle Nicky's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
The only thing I didn't like about a VX1 was how stiff the power ring was. Otherwise, I have not had any issue with leupolds. I like my Zeiss, but then again, I have never required warranty work on optics so I can't speak to that experience with either Zeiss or Leupy or any other manufacturer. Even the BL elite 3200 on my slug gun has held up well so far. -
Now his head look disproportionately small .... find a more representative example for your wall. ha

I can assure you that both gorilla super gel and Loctite super gel will adhere such that to remove the feather, you have top rip that part of the wrap off. They stick for sure. I have never had a feather fall off with either and I don't do any special prep on the wrap. Wrap, put feather in jig, add glue, hold in place for 20 seconds and on to the next. Give the arrows a couple of hours to dry.

Good luck with him. Nice Buck for sure.

Thanks. It's good. But for smoking to a rare-medium rare temp, I think I like the top round better. Denver has more marbling but the top round seemed a bit more tender. First time trying the Denver roast.

Hoping to shoot a dink identical to his 2015 dink if I recall correctly.

Really just a post dinner snack. Smoked Denver roast with horseradish sauce. Already dug in. Lol

I am with you Grow. Give me lots of doe pics all summer. The bucks will come.

Happy BDay!

They have been scoring bucks for a long time, it's nothing new. And some hunters have chosen to chase bigger antlers for a long time too. Again nothing new. The problem today is the media outlets open to everyone real time. It can change perceptions and that is true of lots of areas, not just hunting. Hopefully each hunter is sufficiently well grounded to enjoy what they hunt and congratulate others for doing the same. Back to carrying deer, we have had some tick infested deer. I don't think I want to sling em over my back. But I really could see that being useful in harsher terrain.

Equally important, I just learned a better way to drag a buck out!
-
Good luck with him Wooly!

Yep thanks Jala. Hard to beat free.
