  1. I have heard it can take up to a year, depending on the taxidermist. I just received mine back and it was provided to Matt Cantrell on Nov. 3. I think that is generally considered quick turn around.
  2. Another congrats to Matt who won the Syracuse taxidermy competition today with a clients mount. Quality work!
  3. So true on the memories. Long story short, thought I had a perfect heart shot but shot under the heart. Lots of blood early but this buck was tough. Pushed him off the property into a park. We had to leave bows behind. Push him back into property after about a mile chase and our buddy catches up with us. We find him bedded and hurt while the three of us start to watch about 60yds away and try to wait it out. Then our friend tried to sneak up on him by taking his shoes off and finish him. He was the only one with a bow. As he sneaks up, the buck gets up and starts moving uphill with our friend running full speed in chase. The buck was hurting and slows down on top of a steep ridge despite our friend in chase. Gave our friend the time to get another arrow in him. Buck goes down and we KNOW its finally over. But the buck pops up again. Another short chase in socks and buck finally lays down for the final time. I was out of breath just trying to keep up with David and the buck. Lol
  4. Yes- thx magic man. Credit goes to David for chasing him down in socks. Greatest tracking moment ever. Permanent reminder on the wall.
  5. I only shot him knowing he was slightly bigger than the little guy you shot. Like you, I should have held out for one of the 2 targets. And again, you can't call it passing when your tag was BURNED already. LOL BTW - feel free to pass on a Tom for me. I still need my first.
  6. Phade won't admit it, but he has two gallons already in the back of that Dodge.
  7. Just got my 2013 bow buck mount from him. My first mount and I am very happy. He did a great job and is a great guy. Thanks Matt. Best of all, I was able to get it on the wall before my wife came home. Too Late! Lol
  8. You think I might get some strange looks as I head in the woods with my suit, tie, bow and muckboots? Phade, for the right bet, its on.
  9. LOL - it was the formal clothes - deer don't think you are hunting when you dress like that. The camo always tips them off. I am going to try a suit and tie this season.
  10. This is your best bet if you are looking to prevent someone from removeing the lock, but it doesn't stop someone from lifting it up and moving it. Used on motorcycles. I have one I have never used for my harley.

Who knows, maybe it was the swamp where I hunted. All I know is I couldn't see a darn thing unless it was within 40 yards or so. Bad call by me.

I am sure the deer will agree with you Doc. LOL

Perhaps it would be useful late season, although picking out a few deer in the woods versus herds of elk is a whole different scenario. Moreover, by the time you got to those deer, they are likely long gone. I distinctly recall last year opening day for gun and there were plenty of leaves where I hunted. I was ticked because I was pretty much limited to bow range. Honestly, I think it would have very limited utility for hunting in this area.

I can't see the one we saw in Harrisburg being very useful in forest hunting - too many tress to see or fly through. It really was geared to monitor large tracts of open plains. It was interesting footage and surprising the Elk didn't seem too concerned. As I recall, it had a 2 mile limitation.
  15. No tips, but good luck. I assume a blind is a must if he is young. I am sure you both will have a great time.

Not sure - his posts just didn't sound like a Thomas. LOL
  17. I have a Hi Lux TB MZ scope in 3-9x40. Great scope for the money. Very clear optics and seems to hold 0 great. I would highly recommend it.
  18. If nothing else, I think Stubby won the award for the most replies to an intro. Well done! I can't take the "bow hunting is too easy because the deer are dumb" theory too seriously, but well done on tapping emotions. LOL

Happy B-day .... Thomas? Never would have guessed.
  20. That was my though too MM. Might order some new signs with the number on them.
  21. Anybody put their phone number on the signs. I can see the benefit if someone wants to reach you (deer recovery, etc.), but I don't like plastering my number everywhere.
