  1. nothing for me as yet. I sent a email to the DEC asking how I can resolve the problem if the packet does not show up in the next week....is there a procedure for us to follow ???
  2. I think we are seeing more deer due to the coyote were killed off due to sickness such as Mange. I also am seeing more turkey and rabbits this year. Maybe the cycle for more of deer, rabbit and turkey will be on the upswing for the next 3 years or so.
  3. still nothing in the mail from the DEC....for my life long licence
  4. Hi I also lived for year in Walden NY. But for bear each year we would go to 3rd lake and hunt the area that was open to hunting from one of the large paper companies. Now with the tools we now have like a 4 wheeler I would hunt again. But years ago we helped some guys get a bear out of a bog, and that cured me of hunting them. The drag almost killed off several older guys and I was one of them. A bear for some reason does not slide like a deer, every stump or anything else it seems to get hung up on... good luck and if you get one please post photo's.
  5. I still do not have mine in the mail as yet....maybe it is going by your last name etc as mine starts with a O.....I will give them another week and then start calling...
  6. it would be hard to draw the bow with your feet from a tree stand ?????? all kidding aside the area you tried to wax does not require wax as it is covered by another layer of bow strands as they go around the wheels / cams or cables. That shop did you a good deed by putting the string back and they charged you next to nothing.
  7. Orange camo for gu season with a orange hat. camo for bow and turkey season / gun.
  8. still no life time tags in the mail as yet. Another site says people are having all kinds of issues with getting on to the system. How about places like Walmart or Dick's ????
  9. when do the 2014 / 2015 doe tags go on sale ???? also to apply for archery tags ? I have a life time lic and noting has come in the mail so far, another site is saying it due to the new NY computer system is not working ????
  10. nothing yet, when do the doe permits go on sale ????
  11. sure is worth it, got mine at 50, at 73 it paid for.....several times over.
  12. I was 10 and started going with my day hunting rabbits, then went to deer with both gun and bow. That was 63 years ago and still love the sport. I no longer have dogs so no small game as my legs are bad. But still take and shoot the bow most days for a few arrows and hunt deer with both bow and gun. MY wife says I do this just to get out of the house and take long naps in the woods....

    Waxing

during the summer I shoot a lot so for me I do it once a month, by doing this it sure seems to make the string and cables last several years or more. wax is cheap compared to changing the string and cables...I have a small piece of leather that I use to work the wax into the string / cables.
  14. were is the Delaware state forest located i.e. town and road etc...
  15. HI if you are a member of a bow and gun club and have opening for new membership please post your club name, location, contact person and cost per year. Would love to find a club in the 4O area / Catskills or Norwich area that has a opening for myself, I am a older hunter 73 that still love to hunt with both the bow or gun. I shoot most days about 30 arrows a day with my compound bows, that I have several, I operated a archery pro shop for over 20 years, and made it a full time business when I retired from IBM Endicott were I was a Manager in the Lab for new Products I am a member of the Gibertville rod and gun bow clubs in NY and a Member of the Sand dune archers of Myrtle Beach SC. My thanks for your consideration Bill Olmesdahl
  16. I have a big pack as I always have what most of the guys said, plus being a older hunter got to have extra sweater or jacket to keep me warm if I am sitting all day. I try to walk in without a lot of the heavy togs on so I do not sweat up. I also have a small fm radio in the pack to use during those mid day times during the bow season, and it has a ear plug so it makes zero noise. I have shot two deer with it on as I had a 50's rock and roll station on...
  17. God I can not believe that a owner would just turn down business. I had a shop for years (20 + years ) I would fletch a arrow for $1 a arrow, and then write on a paper what fletch you wanted size etc 2 inch BH vanes, 2 black and 1 yellow etc, with your name and phone number and put it on the arrow or arrows with a rubber band. Never lost a order in all the years. Now I would not do one arrow if you wanted a special brand or were I would have to order in fletch to do a doz arrows and you only had one, it would have to be for fletch I had in stock...
  18. I do not know if the cross bow will help being a ground hunter. At 73, I find I still can shoot my compound at 55 lbs or my recurve at 45 lbs, and yes it sure is harder to get a shot off when the deer and it is eye ball to eye ball on the ground. But the feeling you have when you get a good buck, sure make you feel like a true hunter. I found I went from 100% deer each year in a tree stand to less than 25 % on the ground. I found you have to wait the deer out and let him or her have the deer head in back of a tree to get the bow up to shoot. I also found you sure have to play the wind so the deer does not smell you...
  19. they key is not the score but did you have a good time.
