  1. HI, are you finding you can now find ammo for your hunting or target shooting ? I was able to stock up on deer ammo in 308, 12 ga slugs, but have not found any 22 cal long rifle ammo in the area.
  2. go to several pro shops and shoot them all and see which one feels the best in your hand, for me it was in 2007 the bowtech commander, and that I am still shooting for 3D, but for hunting I got a new 2013 left over PSE Drive bow, it sure shoots great. BUt again once I had it in my hand and shot a arrow I knew it was the bow for me.
  3. I use to do the same thing, check each season all the wood built ones and repair as needed and also hang new alum ladder stands . Now at 73 I have only one alum ladder stand, and sit in a few natural blinds in the woods, on the ground. The percentage of getting a buck each year from tree stand went from 95% to just about 10% on the ground. Not as easy on the ground, but when you get one, eye ball to eye ball it sure does make this old man heart race a bit. I wish all a good season and be safe, take the time now to check out all your tree stands and make sure they are still safe to use.
  4. find a local archery club, I think that Walden rod and gun has a range and lots of members...maybe they have a young archers in the club so she could work with other kids her age. I to far away or I would offer to work with her. I use to live in Walden many years ago and last base was Stewart AFB, then got a job with IBM at Fishkill, moved several times with them and retired from IBM Endicott NY...I also know they have a big archery club in Pok area I think it called black rock..call a few of the local archery pro shop and maybe they can help....
  5. I use 40 yards as my longest shot and have the setup to shoot from 20, 25, 30, 35, and the last is 40 yards. We go from long to short and shoot a max of 5 arrows at each of the two bag targets. we do this with a buddy about 2 times a week, as we both are retired, We also then shoot my 3D course, I had a bow shop for years, and wanted always to have a small range for myself and a few buddies so I started buying 3 3D targets a year. I have the range setup on 20 acres and have 17 shooting location with 2 targets each location. The targets are deer, bear, and turkey. Most of the shots are hunting shots and go from 20 yards to 30 yards. It sure does give you better understanding of your bow and your own skill level.
  6. I have several wood chuck that continue to try to dig under the garage, I fill the hole back in in when they dig and they stay gone for a few days and then they dug it out again. So as a last resort I gone to the old 20 ga Mossberg with open sight and Remington 20 ga slugs. I have been able to take two chucks at 50 yards with this setup. No bad for this old fart at 73, with just putting in one slug and then shooting offhand. I wish there was a way to get them just to move out of the area. any tips to get them to move ???
  7. I think that a great idea, sure will help keep it all together. I also would when filled put a tarp over the firewood so rain does not get in from the front or back. I get the once at the dollar store. Keeps thing dry.
  8. NO I have a practice area setup for shooting from 10 yards to 65 yards. I have never had to take a shot over 30 yards in the woods, 90% of all shots were 15 to 25 yards. Being a hunter for just over 55 years, maybe that will change but even when I shot NFAA for about 20 years, the 80 yards were a fun shot but one that I would not try to take on game, even a slight wind and or poor form of the archer can make the shot a wound only on the game. I do not want to have this occur. When I hunt with my recurve I do not plan and will not take a shot over 20 yards as anything over that is above my skill level. With the compound I am good to great out to 45 yards, but again after that at 73 years young it would be above my skill level.
  9. Hey a great site, my thanks each day as I check in tro see the hot topics..
  10. the other end of the lake has good bass fishing.
  11. I go to Oxford and Gibertville 3D's and have a great time . The amount of shooters this year is down I think due to still lots of people out of work and the cost of gas. I think Gibertiville has a great shoot on father day and also has there Ox roast June 15. They are located off of route 23 take county route 4 south to cope's corner road and go west to gun hill road.info on shoot 607 859 2526 Bob Manwarren
  12. I tried them and not a good fix for me. I went with a single pin scope in 4 x power and it sure makes everything clear as a bell. I use it for 3D, hunting, and spots...The scope cost me a $65 dollars but was the best investment I could make. I also picked up for a backup bow another scope with no x that just has a 29,000 fiber optic fiber in it, that also seems to work well. I do not have a issue for long range but otherwise I am blind as a bat now for close work, need glasses for papers or computer work. But again still shooting at 73, and still can give the kids a run for there money on the range. Best to you and keep shooting............
  13. to many good BH's out there to single one out. But shooting BH's into a deer target is not a good way to go, the target will not last. I have a pile of sand that I use to shoot into to test Bh flight, and accuracy.
  14. I find the charts are always a little off, they seem to make the selection so it always at the high side. I find I do better with seeing what was suggested to the one that is 1 to the left.....it is says 350 I find I do better with a 400 spine shaft...
  15. wow some great fishing, any taken in Delaware county NY.....that you would share the info...
  16. fletchtight is also fine but I find the duco seems to work better for feathers ...
  17. No it depends if you shoot with a open hand grip, the role of the stabilizer is to reduce shock of the bow upon release and to have the bow balance in your hand. I find a 8 inch is just find for the current new bows that are short in the less than 32 inch size.
  18. Hi I use duco cement glue for fletching feathers on wood shafts. I am having a hard time finding duco cement, can you tell me if you know were I can pick some up near Oneonta NY ????
  19. love the spot were the west branch of the Delaware comes into the beaverkill...
  20. what about the plastic tubes for golf clubs ? I use them in my back quiver to hold the arrows in place to reduce noise, also foam on bottom of quiver for the points to go into.
  21. how much are you selling the pills for ????? at 73 I need all the hrlp can get ...
