  1. same to you all. May you have a mild winter in NY with no deer or turkey lost due to winter. I will be down south in Myrtle beach SC till the opening of trout season fishing. I also am a member of the Sand dune archers and get to shoot my bows several times a week. everyone just have a great new year... BIll
  2. Easton 500 carbon at 30 inch long with 125 gr points and 3 5 inch feathers or 5.5 inch banana fletch feathers.
  3. welcome from a old fart from Paramus NJ, now living in central NY area.
  4. what brand is the bow, it look great ....
  5. Yes as I already ware orange camo coat and orange camo hat....
  6. We have had a doe that had a white center with her were two fawns. I let her walk during the bow season and she may have made it thru the gun so far...
  7. I am 73 and have for the life of me been a bow hunter (53 years) and gun hunter (55 years ). I found early in my process of learning to hunt with the bow it sure was not the same as with a gun. I have to say I still keep on learning as I now no longer am able to tree stand hunt. Since I changed over to on the ground, I sure do not take a doe or buck some years. But for bow hunting I use a compound bow, I think the real bow hunters are the people that use a long bow or recurve bow. I shoot them in the off season at target but do not feel I am good enough to hunt with them. The bow has given me a sport for my life that I still enjoy just shooting a few arrows most days in the spring, summer and fall. But with all this snow I will think of hunts past and snjoy Bird day, football and a warm fire.
  8. put on dish soap, let dry and wipe off.. seems to do the trick on getting them to be no fog...when hunting...nothing will make them no fog if you go from 20 degree to 75 degree.
  9. With the current cold and wind I sure can not for the life of me be out there hunting. I have COPD and the cold air does me in. So I am sitting next to the pellet stove and keep checking the window and have seen some doe's out feeding on a large pasture field...
  10. wow thanks for sharing the hunt with me...
  11. it is hard to say I no longer can hunt. This was my year at 73. I have COPD and just can not for the life of me handle when it hits. I also have a bad right leg that is a issue with walking in the dark and falling. SO this year I just keep looking out the back window and looking for deer on the side hill, yesterday I had 3 doe at 20 yards from the house feeding at 3:45 pm and just at dark a 4 point buck walked down to my pond to have a drink. I lost my hunting buddy to cancer about 8 years ago, so I guess if he was still around I sure would try to be out there. I would suggest to all the older Dad's if your son has a camp, I sure still would be there to do the cooking etc, and to see the guys coming in with there stories of the hunt that day. I miss that more than the amount of bucks over the years that I have had the luck or skill to take. God bless you all and hope all has a safe and great hunting season. I am lucky that during the warm weather I can shoot my bow daily and make a lot of the 3D shoots. Plus it the summer there is always fishing.
  12. way to go. you will think back later in life of that first one. MY first was 1970, now 32 bucks later...all of them you will think back on who you hunted with, the bow you used and how big there were... when I think back my number 1 is not the biggest but just who I hunted with my best buddy Gerry, and I had used as a joke a soap that at that time they were selling that if used would make you smell like a deer, well I had purchased it for my buddy and he would no use. So at lunch time I took the bar of this soap and washed up and told all the guys now that my balls were super deer smelling, I would take a buck. At 3 pm the first weekend in Nov, in light snow, a 6 point buck walked up to about just 10 yards away, I put him down and he ran less than another 10 yards....
  13. a buddy asked if I could make some killings arrows for a buddy of him. He had been helping him get ready for the winter and would not take any money for the help. As we get older ( 73 me), it sure does help to have some younger guy or family that helps us seniors out. So I got out my arrow making outfit and made him a doz Easton 400 carbon hunter arrows, with 2 inch BH vanes. Well I got a message back that he had had taken in Iowa a 140+ buck with the arrows I made up for him. Says they sure were killers, as the buck only went 40 yards after being hit with the arrow...
  14. my thanks to all I had a good day with family and friends, The cake and coffee in the evening after dinner.
  15. I take the quiver off the bow and hang it up.
  16. 4O area down over 35 % had several years of lots of coyote kills to both deer fawn and turkey. Could not even find a rabbit to hunt in the area. this year for the first time I am seeing some young fawns, rabbit and turkey. I still also think to many permits are out there for doe's. I would have the DEC allow shooting coyote all year long. I would also only allow one buck per year per hunter.
  17. They said on the news last night the lowest gas prices is in SC and they are under $ 2.75 a gal and are expected to hit a low of $ 2.50 in the next two weeks.
  18. Nothing going on IN the Oneonta area. I see a few scraps and rubs but no seeing any bucks chasing the doe's in mid day etc...I will be staying out a lot more in the next two weeks.
