  1. I use a back quiver for trad, and it hold just 4 arrows. I do not do much stalking but when I do I take one arrow out and hold it in my right hand. Being old as dirt, I now feel that is not a smart way to go, iof you slip and fall you may stick yourself. They make some very good quiver that fit on a trad bow for a recurve or long bow and they cost about $75 bucks. The back quiver I use was a quiver for a kid, that cost $15 bucks, I just took the belt loop off and put in a rope that goes from the bottom of the quiver to the top side of the quiver. It meets all my needs. I did stuff a part old t shirt in the bottom so as I walk the arrows with BH on them do not make noise.
  2. I now only a ground blind hunter at 73 years young. But prior in my 50's would love to just sit in the tree stand and when it rocked it was just about make m fall asleep.
  3. I had to do that years ago and it is the right thing to do. hat off to you...
  4. down south you kill it, gut it, skin it out and then put in a cotton deer bag so the flies do not get into the meat...some even put pepper into the body gut area to keep the flies away... get it home and cut it up the same day...no leaving it on a tree to age...
  5. I had this type setup in the town of North Pharsalia NY, it border on 7500 acres of state woods. I then at my retirement built my retirement home. Never had a issue with the travel trailer, had electric to it, nothing else. No break in over the years and or any other problems.. when I added the town wanted to change the tax type, as I also enclosed the bottom of the travel trailer with 4 by 8 ft sheets to keep the trailer warmer in the winter months as I used it for both deer and rabbit hunting. Also they said electric changed the tax requirement. I found that this was not a issue as I took photo's to show the electric was just a plug in and also trailer still had wheels and could be moved.
  6. HI, there is several pieces of public land in your area. Most of them are good but do require a good deal of scouting to find the deer etc. Also not a lot of hunters in the bow season, but come opening day of gun the orange tide is in. I still find deer but you got to walk in another 15 minutes to get away from the road hunters etc. I hunt about a hour north of you in North Pharsalia state game land, there are two pieces that equal 15,000 acres. Over the years I have come to know them like my own and get to see lots of good bucks in the bow season and also to take a few in the bow or gun. But it does take time. In the early bow the deer are close to farms that still have standing corn or other food , when it gets to be the last week of Oct, they seems to just be getting back in the pre rut and also are now feeding the woods...
  7. HI, I would like to buy a popup blind this year for bow and also gun, what are you using that is great and is a reasonable price....my thanks Bill
  8. one of the best bows ever made and great price. If it was 50 to 60 lbs and 29 inch draw it would be on it way to me... Bill
  9. Is that other place in North Pharsalia NY off of route 23 ? 7500 acres of state land lots of grouse in the fields ...
  10. When I had my bow shop I would buy from a deer farm, and then package it myself. It was kept in the old ice box, till I sold to a customer. I would make sure they understood that if was real deer sex lure or pee. Not to be kept on the dash board of the truck or care, or it would spoil. Did it work in lots of cases, yes, and in some days, "no". When the buck is ready and the doe's are still not ready in the woods the buck gets a smell of a doe in season and he will follow his nose, I use to find a buck scrape and put a drop or two on the scrap and then put some q tips out with just a drop on the q tip and lots of times the buck could be lead to go past my ground blind or tree stand.
  11. I use snow seal it is a bee wax product and leaves no scent. I just rub it in well with my hands and then brush off with a old cotton shirt...
  12. best time is the last week of Oct and first week of Nov....I look for buck scrapes and then put a few drops on the scrape. I then walk off and put a drop on a q-tip and walk some more and put another drop on a q tip....I have it so the q tips will have the buck walk pst the ground blind I have made....it has worked several times for me...remember a drop or two goes a long way to get that buck ....
  13. last week of Oct seems to be the start of the pre rut, the bucks are ready and doe's are not ready...so we see more bucks on the move at all times of the day...
  14. I have been hunting like this now for over 10 years and it sure make the heart beat fast as you get ready to arrow a deer when it eyeball to eyeball. the biggest problem is scent control and also how to get the bow up to shoot so the deer does not spot your movement. not like in a tree stand when they sure do not see or smell you.
  15. Any thing you leave on state lands must have your name, address, and phone on it. I have a bad leg and use to leave in the state woods several plastic green chairs, never had a issue with the DEC, but in 10 years did have two taken. I also had on the address that I was a handicap hunter and asked anyone using the chair not to move it from the location. Maybe the DEC never see the chairs as I would also camo with black paint. I also would remove them at the end of the deer season.
  16. Vicks in the nose, a pair of rubber gloves, then wash out the body cavity with cold running water and you should be ok. I had one buck that was shot at last light and could not find till the next mid day, it took all to gut it due to it had been hot. But again it what you got to do, We had no loss of meat. But washing out the deer helped a lot, then we cut up the deer the same afternoon and that helped as well.
  17. 1/4 inch tru peep, once you get it set so it will turn the same , its there all the time. But most need to go to a bow shop, buy the peep and have it installed by using a bow press. best 25 bucks you will ever spend on your bow.
  18. 2 black and 1 yellow...guys I shoot with try to shoot off vanes and nocks, on hunting arrow high visability 2 green and 1 orange...
  19. post in the local paper that you are new owner and no longer allow hunting on your land. All prior permission is canceled...
  20. I shoot every other day my 3D course that has a total of 15 locations and a total of 33 2D or 3D targets on the course. We shoot early by 830 am to get away from the flies, they sure are bad this year. But my buddy and I are up early being in are 70's we still think it time at 4 am to be up and get ready for the day.
  21. welcome I am in the town of Franklin and was born and raised in NJ ( Paramus). I retired from IBM Endicott and now live out in the woods near my son in law...and the grand kids...Love to shoot the bow...
