bag leg so ground blinds ( natural ) do have a pop up blind and never have used it so far. I have the green walmart chairs in the blind and can sit more time in them and no longer can climb into a ladder stand ...

If you are near the town of Pok or east fishkill they have several good bow clubs in the area. This would be the best for you, join a club. Able to shoot most anytime, will be able to meet guys your own age that will be more than willing to work with you. Maybe even take you out a few times to show you the ropes etc...if you do a seach on 3D archery and put in your zip code it will tell you how far away the clubs are from you and also contact info....

Info needed about bowhunting Delaware county
sweet old bill replied to Alfabuck's topic in Bow Hunting
Not a lot of apples this year and have not seem but one or two trees with nuts on them. If you are hunting 4O, it is 3 points on a side now, lots of coyotes in the area were I am at. I do see a buck or two during the bow season but most of the time they are lass than a 5 point so I let them walk. The time of your trip is the right time, the chase is in, the bucks are walking all over during daylight hours... good luck and have a good time. -
Shotgun Rifled Barrel or not?
sweet old bill replied to Rev Ev's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
this is what worked for me for over 20 years till they made the central upstate rifle now can be used. -
that the way I am also love the getting ready for the season, and just like xmas, will you get a dud when you open the xmas box and or will it be a buck of your dreams....I start really staying out most of the day in the last week of Oct and to the opening day of gun. JUst love to be in the woods when the buck are in the chase phase and the doe's are not ready...good luck to all and hope you get a buck of there dreams. Being in my 70's I no longer stay out in rain and or snow. If it just showers I am out there. I also find that I do better by just being out there about 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the pm. Must be just getting old as dirt...

Hi, what is the current law for buying a new rifle in Delware county ( Oneonta ) NY. After hearing of all those law changes for NY city, I just last time walked into Dicks, found what I liked that was a 12 ga shotgun and walked out with the gun and some ammo. Do us hunter in central NY have any law changes that requires a wait period ?

Has anyone see this product? NuFletch Fletching system
sweet old bill replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
It does change your FOC analysis, I will stay with my old Bitsberger fletching tool that now is 45 years old and still going strong. I love to fletch arrows in the summer out on the deck and think about the coming deer season and or 3D's that are coming up to shoot at. -
I concur 100% with what you said Peterbfly

well this is first year for my area 4O. So god willing we will see how it does after several years. I do think if you want big bucks you have to then change the system to be like Iowa or other big buck states. The difference is the amount of doe permits, how many days of gun hunting, reduction in gun hunting days and increase in bow hunting days, Only a one week for black powder and one week of rifle.... in the big buck states. So if no changes to the current NY tags and the amount of days for guns hunting and how many bucks you can take and current doe tags I think you will not see much of a change at all. But I keep on hoping that we will some day go back to hunt with whatever you like to use ( bow, rifle, BP, crossbow ) but take onlt one buck per year that has a least 3 on one side.

I use a small feather tied to the bow to show changes in wind direction as I now only use ground blinds. With hunting it is best to know wind direction at all times, so your smeel is not pushed to the deer. I did find it did not seem to be a issue when I used tree stands, but on the ground and eye ball to eye ball with a deer it sure seems to be critical.

Good, Inexpensive Rifle?
sweet old bill replied to Dstone001's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I concur with Dad 6424. SOme times people use more gun then needed. I use a 308 remington since about 1964. It takes deer and it lloks like hell from the hunting trips, the bluing is just about gone, the foearm has a splinter, the stock shows were I walked thru all kinds of junk . But what I find is with a good scope set on 3 power, nothing changes with the rifle, it hits were I want. Several times over the years I was thinking of getting a new single shot rifle in 243 for chuck and deer, but when it comes down to it, I just stick with old faithfull. I also have a remington 1100 for slugs, I used that a lot of years as well. It shows the same hard usage. -
To Tink's or not to Tink's, that is the question....
sweet old bill replied to Suilleabhain's topic in Deer Hunting
When I had the bow shop I use to get fresh deer lure from a NY deer farmer. In his own words, some times they work and other times they do not. The moon has to be right and they work the best during the chase period of the rut. I found I do just as well not using a lot of deer lure. I do use red fox on my boots.... -
not a bad way to go...so were the camp located.....

I had some years ago and it was not a great piece of meat, to much fat. More like a ground hog stew I onece tried.

I had one year in the rain, dark, prior to first light several yotes come by me in a ground blind chasing a deer. It sure got the hair on my neck up....

as it gets nearer the opening day and into Oct. You may start to see signs that this is his area such as a line of rubs and also he start making out scrapes. If he is making scrapes it may be both to show other bucks this is his area, and or a breeding scrape with a hanging brance that shows were the does should come to him. If you see all these things he may be back and or other bucks are in the area. I then try to backtrack the signs to were is his bedding area, and also trails going to the feeding area. I had one year so many signs in this one little area, I sat there must of the season and never did see a shooter buck, why, all was made at night. NOw with the trail cams, you can find out the time and size of the bucks in your area.

It is time to get out, but can you see the cry that would go up if he pulled all of them out from these areas. The far right would be calling him every name in the book. The question has to be asked is why do we put the USA in these positions, I think the answer is the big business of we sell these war items to all. It is time to ask the question why do we want as a country to try to control the total world. Come on home and be strong and ready.

That seems to be the best 10 days to be in the woods, the last week of Oct and the first week of Nov... I have taken 3 deer on Nov 1 to the 5 over the years, and several the last week of Oct...I love the chase period the doe's are not ready and the buck are like 21 year old male on Friday night after drinking and dancing with the women....

I picked up a 26 ft trailer for a camp on the lake, we used it during 3 summers and then purased a new one. I moved it to my hunting lanbd and had electric put in, I used it for 6 years and just let it stay on the land, never had to move it a inch, lower taxs as it was not any perm attachments to power, water, or sewer etc... I would bring with me two 5 gal of water for the weekend, and built my own porta tolet etc...I would take a old cat littler container drill some holes in the bottom and keep it out back of the trailer, I would then take the pail from the porta tolet and empy it into the cat plastic container.. I would empy that into a plastic bag to take home for the trash pickup...I was never cold, the trailer had a gas furance and even when I was up for the two weeks of gun season, it keep the trailer warm. I did make siding to go from the bottom of the trailer to the ground. This kept the cold air from getting under the trailer. The grew water from the sinks just went out to the ground. When you close up I would put anti freeze into the water drains, to make sure they would not bust once you turn off the heat... Best $1600 I ever spent. After several years I retired and built my retirement dream house on the location and sold the trailer for $1000....

right hand shooters...shooting towards the right??
sweet old bill replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
as they say twist at the waist, and you may have a shot and or maybe not. The key is can your turn your body so you can take a good shot. If not, let the deer walk. You are right as far as if the deer was just at the 9 o clock position it would be a lot easier for a right hand archer. Being a old guy at 70, and not a small waist, I would sure have to let the deer walk. Or when the deer is behind a tree, stand to position my body to take the shot. -
play the wind at all times. I even have a small feather tied on the bow string to show me if the wind has shifted during the hunt. I do wah the hunting togs in baking soda and then dry outside and also keep the hunting togs on a rack in the garage / outside building .

Eight week old beagle pups for sale.
sweet old bill replied to GaryMik's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
I sure miss having the dogs, they are fun to train and hunt with. But with going south in the winter, no way to take a dog with me...what a face on that hound, sure says buy my pups... -
if you go to a ASA shoot they seem to have one at the shoot to see if your bow meets there specs for shooting etc. I always just set up the bow for a good heavy stable setup for hunting. I see a lot of the guys go for speed and you can see there arrows are just to light. There was a major study done on arrow flight of light vs heavy arrows. The faster ight arrows did not have the level of peneration as a 5% to 10% higher weight arrow etc. when you say bull to that if you toss a pink pong ball compare it to a 1/2 lb rock...I will take the rock all the time.

when I had the bow shop I use to buy in 1/2 gal from a local deer farmer. He always use to say that it all based on the moon. I had the fresh and would keep in the old ice box to ensure it stayed fresh. Make sure you do no just put the bottle on the dash board if the truck. Direct sun light, heat, can just make that doe pee into nothing in a short time.... I use to kid with the guys coming in for the doe pee, tht I was not responsible if they put the bottle in there back pocket. If a deer buck attacked them on the way to there car or truck...
