  1. I shoot fixes blade as I shoot only a 56 lb bow.
  2. love those woods during the chase period the buck are ready and the doe's are not ready...time to be in the woods all day...
  3. to big a area and the mice will eat them up....I found over the years just one or two sets of sheds and that was hunting rabbits in Feb...by the time snow goes off I just do not seem to find them. I did find one right horn under my tree stand one year.
  4. lot of the dealers are saying the best bang for your buck is the PSE Brute, has no hand shock and zero noise. Plus lots of the high tech features on the bow.. I would go to a PSE dealer and sure test fire a few arrows to see what fits my hand. I just got a top of the line hoyt 2007, like new setup with drop a way rest and 3 pin sight for $290 FROM ARCHERY TALK.COM and am very happy. But I also new what I wanted.
  5. welcome we have lots of the north folks on the site as well as a lot of buddies who trave to Myler Beach SC for the Jan thru March period to get a way from snow and ice in NY and Canada.
  6. I sure support the change, in the area I am in we have to many brown is down hunters. I sure let the small buks go by, only to see they taken by my LI hunters next door to me. They also seem to have a box full of doe permits, they get there buddies in LI to ask for our area and then sign them over to this group of 4 hunters...I see some does taken by them to me a little more that 60 lbs. If I had my way it would be a one week gun season, and two weeks for black power and the rest for archery. I also would have it as one buck per year, take it with what ever equiptment you like to use. If we want big bucks maybe the NYDEC should look to Iowa to see what there season is and maybe also change ours to match there season.
  7. that a tough weight to start with, most refommend a weight in the 45 to 50 lbs for a new trad archer. Otherwise just take a few shots each day, and work on form. Otherwise you may start to have all kinds of issues, like short draw, or snap shooting. I now shoot a 49 lbs marting hunter bow for trad, the biggest issue for me is to take the time to ensure I come to a full draw, lock in, pick that spot and then release. good luck Bill
  8. I hunted VA for about 9 years. It is a blast to sit out in short t shirt, with a bow in your hand. The key wioth a early hunt is hunting the food supply available. What is also great is if you see one buck you may see 4 at a time, as they are still in groups. We also found that if you hunt mid day ( noon ) find a rea that was lots of shade and a water supply. The bucks like a kool dark area to bed down as this reduces the number of black flys that are a real paain to the buck as they shed and start to rub there new horns. Down there you had to have a body bag, gut deer and put in bad to transport so no fly get into the body . But as you come into camp a cold beer, having a fire and cooking on the grill sure was better than facing snow and zero weather.,
  9. In another esite they were talking of having there release not work well due to being gumed up from string wax. They cleaned it with white gas and then blew the release dry....they said it then worked just like new. I have been using the same release for years and never did anything except use silcon oil on it to make sure no rust from snow or rain if I was out hunting...do you clean or take special care to keep your release as new ?????
  10. to bad I shot them for years, I could just take a file to them and they would be ready to go and shot just like a field point. I sent a msg to the owner about 12 years ago telling her that they sold more than any other mfg of BH in my shop. WHy due to the quality of the BH line.
  11. I use snow proof for my boots. I also use a water proof for tents on my hunting coat. I just do it now to make sure no smell will stay on it for hunting.
  12. Holly crap if a sitting Republican president did this there would be riots in the street from the looney left. Hey Bush did this same thing several times to get the VP off ....
  13. all those are great tips and sure will increase the odds in the hunter favor. I also have one other problem and that is age, as you get older and no longer can hunt in tree stands I find I have to have the wind as my niggest factor, the other is how to use natural blinds over mfg blinds. The key also becomes when I SEE A DEER CAN I DRAW ON IT. So many times now being on the ground the big bucks you can see will only come in if the wind is in there face. I just love that 7 to 10 days when the bucks are chasing and the doe's are not ready yet. I hope all get out this year and get the buck of your dreams. I have seen just two bucks with there horns growing in the area, one looks like he will be a good one. The other may be a small 6...
  14. all those items make good awareness of were and when I would put a stand up. But the wind seems to me to be the one item a lot of hunters forget. That why I have several stands in the area ( now ground blinds ) due to bad leg. I have one stand in the early season looks like a herd of cows use it daily, but can only be used when the wind is out of the west. Otherwise as the deer come down the hill to feed they smell you... so I check wind each hunt day to make my mid up were I will hunt. I also have a 4 inch piece of dental floss on the bow string that tell me when I am in the stand is the wind changing.
  15. so what is one person like you and me to do. The USA govt takes no action at all and continues to do business with them. The biggest thing the USA govt could do is not let all the china mfg items into our USA. Hard to do that when you continue to take loans from them.
  16. that sure is a no no, if you do and or even on a gun rack on the truck window is a no no. when I am going to a shoot I make sure the bow is unstrung and in a case for a trad bow and in a case for a compound bow.
  17. Hi all just aq few tips from this older archer. When I started selling recurve bows, I called martin and sked if they should be strung and unstrung after each usage and let them just hand in the shop. I was told they had some bows strung for years to see oif they last peak weight or kast. They found no loss even after 5 years. Now they said the biggest problem with recurve or long bows was damage from the process of stringing a bow. They said sell the bow and include a stringer with the bow and show the new or older archer how to use the string. Had they said over time that over 95% of damage to bows was from trying to put a bow over the knee to string. With compound bows only take off the peak weight or setup weight and turn back about 3 full turns if you are going to store for a long period. Otherwise just keep it hung by the string or upper cam. I store mine from the upper cam in the shop if possible. I have metal that is covered with plstic hook to hang them by. If I am going to store any bow for the winter etc. I make sure I lube the bow ( compound ) and for bow trad and compound boiw I then make sure I wax the string. I also use pledge wax on a old dishtowel and wipe off the bow. Makes the bow look like it just came out of the package from the mfg...
  18. I do think we are in a world of hurt for the middle class. I worked all my life, retired from a major firm that gave it workers a healthcare plan and retirement plan. Now I see the changes will be just like down south across the border, we will have no chance for a hard working person to make it, it will continue to push the 98% down to make the 2% richer and richer. Unions sure increased the overall pay for all workers, now the key is take away those benifits to all workers...
  19. That what I did I have a used 32 ft camper and put it on 15 acres that I found in North Pharsalia NY. I had this as the hunting camp for over 12 years, then put a house trailer on the land as I got ready to retire, sold off the travel trailer and later built my retirement home there and used the first house trailer as a rental, paid the year tax on the rent. Later on we sold the place to move closer to the kiods and grandkids. But a great way to start off. I think back to that little travbel trailer and was warm and dry, had a good stove and sure was like home after a day in the woods....good luck I did have to replace the floor in the bathroom, for me being not a handy guy was a major project that I got a lot of suggestions on how to do and then I did it....
  20. I hunted VA for several years and also west va. youi just have to skin them right out and put them in a body bag to keep the blow flys off the meat. We would skin them out, wash out with running water, then put on the body bag, transport and cut up ASap. It is hard to think of normal NY hunting if the temp are in the 80's, you just have to ware camo shorts, and a t-shirt.....Oh and using camo masking paint on the legs is ok.....
  21. a sure way to not ever have this problem is to always draw the bow with arrow in the string, a safe draw area facing a target, a release that will not go off. This a safe way to fine tune that new bow. I had one guy draw the bow with the arrow in the bow with his release and about 3/4 way back he trigged the release, the arrow hit a iron support and that was the end of the arrow but not the bow. Be safe
  22. depends on the num,ber of members, activities, is the bow range have targets out all the time and or only when they are having a shoot, location of club, how much you think you will use. I have belongs to several in the area and some were great and others not so good. Also being now on a fixed income for me it is the cost, how far to travel to use the club, with gas nopw at almost a $4.oo gal... what the name of the club ? In the central area I would recommend: Gibertville rod and gun club Whitney point sportmen club Oxford rod and gun club all have great archery course, good members and also have trap etc... Bill
  23. as a archery pro shop owner for years. This also occured in PA were some kids were in a sand box playing. A home owner about 3 houses away was shooting in his back yard, He drew and the d loop let go on the way back the arrow traveled and hit a little girl. My shop insurace suggested that he was being sued, the archery shop that put on the d-loop also, and the easton arrow maker as well as the bow compony were all named. I sure suggest that we have a good backstop when we are shooting just like with a gun know were the end result will be...
