  1. great idea, should do the job.....use the same arrows as well as on your compound bow and you are ready to hunt...
  2. welcome and join in with all of ..we love the sport of hunting and fishing..
  3. go to the large hole WB size for xl alum arrows. You will have zero issue with fletch waring out and still have a easy to setup and use hunting rest. The smaller carbon shaft will just ride the same place on the botton of the rest. I also incrased the overall speed of the arrow by 3 to 5 feet per second.
  4. Doc keep on fighting is the way to go
  5. max3 post is just what was said when the compound bow started, the new archers would with there compound just shoot all the deer or wound them since they had a 45 % let off. my god they were just like a gun they had sights, would use even Alum arrows and not the true arrow of hunters past ( wood) and they could use a release just like a gun...yes there would be deer running all over the hills with arrows in there side from this new crop of archers if allowed.... never did occur and I am not a cross bow user, but sure think they should be allowed in our current archery season. I have seen in SC at the local club several guys shootng there cross bows at the practice area, they are just like us. trying to make sure that there equiptment is ready for the season. In talking most can not or do not use in a tree stand, most use in a popup blind on there own land, and most use due to there age or inability to no longer use a veritical bow ( either a long bow, recurve or compound ) They just want to hunt as they use to. So lets support the change. Hell with the DEC most of know they will just sit and wait as there is not a lot of deer left anyway. The DEC is killing off the deer herd with there policy and season limits and these crossbow will not make a bit of difference.
  6. sure seems that with the NY budget issues, the cutting of old timber would be a great way to go, brings in $$$$, lets were they cut get funding for replanting, helps the deer, white rabbit, and grouse. this idea of forever wild is a farce, no roads into the area, not even a place to park a car to fish etc. these are the ideas of the nature nuts, so it has to start with the locals pushing for changes, cutting will also mean again a lumber industry in NY and that means (JOB)
  7. a game hog..... seems to be a bit of that around, sure do not try to help another hunter.
  8. I find I do not need to turn the light on. If you do it is so bright it seems to cause me to lose the target.
  9. I sure think luvtahunt has it right. At 70 I thank God each day that i can still hunt or fish. I still can use a compound bow or my recurve but lot of us older folk can no longer do it. Makes a big difference if you are old to hunt in the warmer weather compared to the end of the season with snow and cold weather. I have bad legs and do fear falling on snow and icy, My right leg was broken in 9 places and the kneecap in 3...this keep me now in natural ground blinds. No more in sits in trees etc..lets support all hunter and not have archery vs cross bows... time to get together and work to better our sport of hunting..
  10. I sure think he hurts hunting more than he helps.
  11. My Buddy NYBOB had a climber for years one of the top brands and at 75 he felt it was just like shooting the bow, you know how to shoot and how to setup your climber. But last year we almost lost him as he was turned upside down and hung from his kegs for several hours till his son found him. The had to use a tree picker to get him down and then fly him out to the nearest critical care center. He is now on the mend. His legs do not work as well. SO his words are use a ladder stree stand.
  12. what a bunch of crap.. it is not left and right but now what big business can take from us all. I again saw last night that our president sent out for more flashlight so in the dark of night he and his merry men ( FBI ) will be coming to take our guns away. Now being in the center and not left or right my guns are safe for awhile. But you that said this was just a way the country should be broken up. May have to start checking for signs of flashlights at night, and when we do not see you here, we may have to inquire have you been picked up by the FEDS... maybe for a change there should be a piece that says it time we are all one again, left or right we need support to get our country back on the right track. Bill
  13. first to be cooked is the liver and then of course the next day lunch is the back straps....
  14. as a non crossbow guy I think it would be a great idea. Sure would help a guy like me undestand what are the issues of guys that are using them. My buddy John just got last year the biggest dollar PSE crossbow and it sure seems to shoot well for him, but also lots of work, he has a bad shoulder and to use he has a camera stand (3 legs) TO SET UP AND A CROSS PIECE TO HOLD THE CROSS BOW. now given the weight of the bow also has to turn a wheel to get the string back. Now I can shoot alll the arrows in my quiver (9) prior to him taking 2 shots. His bolts are made by PSE and 100 bucks for a 6 pack. He lost two inserts so he will have to special order from a PSE dealer . What a pain I sure love walking the woods with either my recurve or compound. I sure do not think that if they change and allow crossbows in the archery season you will have anything to worry about. The cost will stop a lot of potential crossbow hunters from buying and also the weight to carry around. good luck with crossbow hunting in the state. Bill
  15. In this time of major problems I sure do not think Black and or white will just say I have been a Dem my total life and will vote straight Dem across the board. But for me to change I have to see some person show with a plan that will get this country to be back on track again to have a middle class. SO far no one from the right or left will gain my support. I would love just one from the right to say, well we should have had a tax increase udring the Bush years to pay for two wars and not major tax give a way to major Corporate interests and the top 1 percent....
  16. welcome and glad to have you...
  17. Hi all at 70 years young I have been selected by hot shot release mfg group to be a Staff Shooter for them. I will now be shooting there release at all the 3D shoots. I shot two weeks ago for my first shoot of the year at sand dune archers of Myrtle beach SC. They had also had a 900 round for the nfaa shooters. It was a 2 day shoot and they had about 150 shooters on both days. It was a weather perfect day with the sun out and 61 degrees. The 3D course was very flat and thru all type of pines and local brush. Not like some of our course that you have to be part mountain goat to shoot. I had one of my best shoots ever, only had 2 arrows hout of the kill area on 32 targets, rest in the kill or super kill. I shot as a senior hunter and I think almost all the targets were in the range of 20 to 35 yards. The Pro seem to shoot out to 50+ yards, and can some of these guys shoot, but not what I call hunting equiptment, they have 6x scope, super light arrows, seats with quivers attached, so they can sit down while waiting to shoot. I had on the bow a cheap, under 40 dollar slider sight with a .029 fiber optic scope, and 3 marks 25,35, and 45 yards. Anything in between I just gap shoot. One of the younger guys had a new 2012 PSE bow setup with 7 pins top of line sight. He shot very well. I tried it on the practice area, sure did not work for me and my old eyes. Pins so close together as he was shooting max out close to 70 lbs and 28 inch draw. AlL I saw when I held the bow up was a mess...my old eyes no longer can use the pin setup..... I hope all are well and you will continue to having a better and normal winter...think brown ground and see you on April 1.......
  18. I have a buddy who now shoots a cross bow during the gun season from a pop up blind. Now for me it sure is not the way to go, at 70 I still can draw and shoot a bow ( both recurve 45lb checkmate or compound at 58 lb bowtech commander. NOW FOR HIM TO USE IT, he has to setup a blind, have a chair, have a camera tri-pod with a special cross piece to hold the bow, the bow is a pse crossbow, with 9 inch limbs, has a auto cocking with a wheel to crank it back, a 4 power rifle scope, it is a very heavy and time consuming to get ready to hunt. No way you can walk and stalk, and very hard for me to see how you could setup in a tree stand. SO this again limits the crossbow. But after seeing him shoot out to 30 yards I think I do almost as well. I can fire 5 arrows to his one at targets. But for him it is god sent as without this he would be another hunter lost to physical / old age. So if they ask me can the cross bow be included in the archery season I sure will support it, because it may be my next requirement as I god willing I grow older.
  19. both the right and left of this country has to ask our law makers to start working together to get mfg back into the USA.Or we will be only the big bucks and the very poor, ( no more middle class ) Fair and balanced is fox words, but never have a good word for anything on the left. That also applies to fair trade, to make it fair it should be if you let me xport as example 10,000 auto to your country, then we should allow the same amount to the USA. Not you ship 100,000 cars in and we can only xport less than 10,000. Also get rid of all these special interest tax breaks in the tax law. Seems only the big bucks get a break. Big dollars seems to be the major issue on how not to pay a fair share to the Govt. How can a major company G.E. not pay one cent in taxs and get a credit back from the govt. If you are on the right , I aks you to think of one positive thing that the current Presdent has done that you supported. As a left and right person I have to say the far right has put the focus on year after year we are over spending the budget. We got to start living within our means. But what gets me, is during the Bush years, with two wars going there was never a hand raised that said lets pay for those wars, and raise all of our tax a few percent to "pay for the cost ", no lets keep those charges outside the budget. Lets keep making tax cuts for the top 1 %.. So how would you fix the problems we have?
  20. No you can not do it, it would be jail time for you. I one time suggested that when they allow cutting of the red pine in North Pharsalia state game lands have the company cutting the pine have a requirement to plant food plots and not just leave all the tops so a hunter can not even walk thru the cut over areas. I was told no way, leaving the tops was nature way and not the DEC to add food plts was not being considered.
  21. best to you and the family on this happy day
  22. I do support use in all seasons if a person is disabled, DOCTOR CERTIFIED. BUT IF YOU HAVE NO ISSUES WITH HEALTH AND CAN DRAW A BOW BACK THEN YOU SHOULD USE A NORMAL TRADITIONAL BOW OR COMPOUND FOR THE BOW SEASON.
  23. wow and were was this taken...could not be in NY..
  24. I will still be down south till April first. Maybe we also should have a upstate meet at the Whitney point sportment club 3D shoot on April 15....check out there site one of the best outdoors range I ever have been on and great breakfast they sell...
