  1. Ive had deer drop in their tracks, tuck tail and just run before they drop and some do the mule kick. All resulted in dead deer, but its interesting to so how different reactions can be. These are incredibly strong and resilient creatures that we are all hunting.
  2. I think you'll have a few days at least if some real Rutting action. Got 6 new bucks on my cams so I'd say they're finally starting to shape up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Awesome job biz! Nice double lung shot as well. Rut should be in full swing when you get back into it so maybe you'll get a bigger deer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I definitely wont be. Although you wont catch me voting for trump either.
  5. Looks like some big bucks are starting to fall. Seems to be a great season so far in NY. I know ive had more chances at nice deer than im used to. While my deer was no where close to zag's deer, I would put it in the low 120's, which is good enough for me.
  6. Congrats biz! Must be a great feeling to harvest your first deer on your own land. I didn't see a single deer after I rattled in that nice 8 to what turned out to be 36-38 yards. Decided to take a ride to my other property and check the cams. Ended up talking to the landowner to showed me the new 10pt xbow he just got. He asked me to set some things up for him which I did and he headed off to the woods. Cams showed 8 new bucks with 7 being legal and 6 of those being shooters. I'll post some of them when I get home. Found out the guy next to us is hunting the small thin 5 yard block of woods that's maybe 60-70 yards wide. He has a few good spots there and will probably get one of those nice bucks. Seems like a nice dude so I wish him all the best. He also is hunting with an Xbow. All in all it's a pretty good day Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Rattled in a nice 8 this morning. He came in and his nose was dripping. He came in cautious but determined. I think we're about 4-5 days from it blowing open Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Too bad my decoy was in the wrong side of my tree where he couldn't see. I'll be moving it to the field where the last two bucks I saw can see it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Just rattled in a nice 8. Looked to be 2.5 years old. Got to 30 yards and then the wind switched in his favor. Would have been a nice one to take if he would have given me a shot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. The wind is terrible by me. It's swirling all over the place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. In the stand. Spooked one doe and one deer that I couldn't see but sounded very large. I walked a way that h always said not to just in case I saw something, but I broke my own rule and payed for it. Both deer blew. Hopefully they come back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Well if I go with a 7x57 cartridge it will either be the 7x57 or .257. If I go the .308 route is the work something that can be done at home or is it something that should be done by a gunsmith?
  13. Its the same as any other in my opinion. The only thing I do is wipe it down once I get back to the car if the weather is no good. Sometimes ill put some gun oil on the stock but usually not. One of the things I want to buy but haven't gotten around to it is something called Renaissance wax. Its a synthetic wax with a crystalline structure that really helps seal moisture out and improves the look of the wood.
  14. Beautiful rifle! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Like everyone said just be persistent. The years 2013 and 2014 I didn't get a single deer so i was feeling the pressure last year. I didn't gotten a deer by gun season so i was starting to think it would be another year with no venison. On the second weekend of gun season I decided to go up for half a day because, I had a huge party to go to later that day and would be too tired. It was like 9 when I said to my self there is no way im going to get one...maybe 5 min a nice 8 came running parallel to me just 70 yards away and I got him. All in all it was maybe 15-20 seconds from the time I saw him and when I shot him. I pretty much had zero faith in any deer coming my way and the rainy weather wasn't helping but I got lucky and got it done. This year I got a doe 40 min into my first sit so Im really not feeling the pressure.
  16. Would be a good guess except you don't pre season scout with your bow do you? Looks like he was out to scout but also would have taken a deer if he could.
  17. How did that guy make it so far? Looks like a decent shot to be honest. Either way congrats
  18. I have my phone and come on here if im really in dire need, but I have learned to embrace the boredom and have come to enjoy it. I only get maybe 10-12 days to hunt each year so I try to make the most out of each day.
  19. Awesome! Can't wait to see the mount Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Nice! Maybe you should mount him with a squirrel in his mouth or something like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. At this point I'm not interested in an 06 since I already have one. I want to start reloading as well so I'm thinking about a uncommon cartridge. The 6mm caught my eye a little as well as the 7x57 and 6.55. Now I have to get good at assessing the condition of a receiver. I can find plenty of M48's when I go back to Europe and as far as I know they're all in good condition from what I can tell. EDIT: the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking of cartridges like 6.8 or 7mm-08. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Sounds like a good deal. What kind of base are you thinking of? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
