Or you can call the Salmon River Sports Shop. With the lack of rain id assume it would be some what low unless they have gotten a lot of rain up that way.

What type of .30-06 ammunition to use for deer hunting?
ATbuckhunter replied to mossy725's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I second curmudgeon's opinion! -
Looks like lung and maybe liver since the blood is kind of dark. Should be a dead deer. Just take it easy and go slow. If you can get in contact with deer search then you'll be in good shape. I single lunged a deer one time when the deer jumped the string. He ran maybe 500-700 yards, but i ultimately found him dead. it was a rough track, but it ended well in the end. Best of luck!

Well ended up not seeing a deer for the rest of the morning, so I went to my other spot to check my trail cams and on my way to my stand I found a rub line right under my stand that wasn't there the week before. I Found a couple nice rubs too and the trail cams showed some new bucks...most small 8's and 7's but one decent 8 showed up. One of my cams wasn't working so i lost a week worth of pics. I replaced the batteries hoping that was all it needed. Went back to the spot that i saw the 3 bucks and saw a buck 70 yards out with in 20 min. Made a quick grunt and he came running on a string to 12 yards. A really nice 2 1/2 year old 8 point with huge brow tines...very tempting but ultimately i passed. As soon as i made that decision the wind swirled and he didnt like that at all. He walked away nervous but not too spooked. Hopefully when the rut starts kicking next week it'll bring in some nice bucks. Also found a lot more rubs and a scrape 45 yards from my stand.

Got to my spot at 6:30 to find 3 deer in the field already. Only about 50 yards from me. They looked really big so I thought they might be bucks as they passed infront Of my car at 15 yards. Once I thought I was safe I got out only to hear bucks sparring right over the mound from me. I got my bow and tried to sneak around them since I knew where they were. There was a low spot in the mound and they caught me as I was getting into position. Couldn't see they're antlers. They didn't hop more than two bounds so I bud behind a tree for a few min and watched as they started making their way back to the small opening. I walk back to my car to get a better look and see one nice big buck that was at least 8 points walk right by my stand. If only I was in my stand. My dad said he saw another big buck in bow range of the car when I went to stalk. Not a bad day so far but im not hopeful for seeing another buck this morning. Solid pre rutting activity this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Im going to guess you are from the city like my self since you mention rifle and shotgun license. All you need is a signed note from your friend saying that he authorizes you to transport the rifle through the city with out him. Once you get past the bronx line, it does not matter at all. Id say for him to put his rifle license id number and drivers license id just in case.

Stealing and selling venison - caught in the act

That sucks! Wish I would have known, I would have told you to bring the elk my way and I would have butchered it for you. -
What happened to the Xbow inclusion thread?
ATbuckhunter replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I see this post having the same fate as the crossbow post -
Sorry to hear about the dog! Its never easy to loose a pet.

I don't see it as any different than kids reciting baseball player stats or other sports stats.

Some real nice deer there!

Id think that if you have an interest in something that spans over a number of years, then you eventually amount a large fund of knowledge.
-
Good luck! Just one more week before youll be out deer hunting.

As long as its dry and stored at an appropriate temp, then it can out last you. People are still firing rounds that were loaded in ww2. That's a little extreme, but people regularly shoot surplus ammo that's 40 years old. I dont know of any "experation date" as long as its still in good shape.

Oh boy that is one big buck!

He wouldn't leave his first fans like that!

I remember him mentioning how he feels more excitement snapping pics of deer than hunting them. Maybe it is his future. I wish him the best of luck perusing what makes him happy.

Great description! One of these days you have to teach me how to properly call in Suffolk archers.

Hopefully the surgery goes well!

Id think its the same as those huge public lands of Ohio. Some amazing bucks are pulled out of each of them every year and I would say its due to the rugged country allowing bucks to reach on older age. Age is arguably more important than having ag fields around.

I agree with db! Better than eating meat from the store and I also really like the thread. One of my favorites on this site!

Congrats on the bird! Couldn't tell you what kind of nut they were...some of them even look like mushrooms in my eyes.

Im jealous guys! Letchworth looks like an amazing place to hunt! If it wasn't so far id hunt it this season. One year ill make it up there.
