Id say 130's. A real NY trophy.
-
They do i believe, but they don't have any interest in shooting does from what I can remember.
-
Heard maybe 6 or 7 from 6:30-3:30. Less and less each year.
-
I believe I have the same one as fantail, which is a field and stream one. Great stand but super heavy. Its about 30 pounds but I can sit in that stand all day long and not feel uncomfortable.

I always do. I like to put away clean meat. Ill wash the deer down really well after skinning, after butchering sometimes and always after defrosting.

Missed the opener but went out today and only heard about 6 shots from 6:30 to 4. Definitely less than any other year. I can't lie, I kind of miss hearing a shot every 10 min.

so the 4 doe that were bedded near me ended up staying a total of 5 hours before I was able to sneak off when the wind picked up a little. Landowner saw 6 doe in his front yard (including an albino) right after I left his house and saw no bucks with them and I saw zero bucks with the 4 doe that were bedded near me. Kind of odd if you ask me...maybe the rut is already starting to waine. I figured with the full moon last Monday we'd have great action going on during this weekend with possibly some lock down, but not a single buck on 2 different doe groups. Last day time buck pick if gotten was on the 13th. Although when i went to my spot in 3M to do some scouting for a new stand, just as I picked the perfect tree I heard this weird noise like an antler hitting a sapling. Turns out there was a monster buck that broke out from the thick brush and ran right past my father and into the apple orchard. He said it was the biggest deer he's ever seen and counted at least 10 points, but it was on a full sprint so who knows how accurate it was. He was no more than 40 yards in the cover from me the whole time. Maybe next time ill go there instead of my spot in 3J. I've seen way more buck sign and activity. I also got to watch a flock of 30 turkey roost in a couple different tree's

These doe have been bedded down 45 yards away from me since 8:20. I'm really hoping they get up to feed in a little bit so I can get out of my stand and get some lunch. I was hoping a buck would join them but no dice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's the spirit. I wouldn't be surprised to see if either you or your father gets one.
-
Congrats wooly! Id like the pic if I wasnt already out of them. Maybe that's a good sign to come.
-
Cant get one on the couch. If they're still rutting, they wont care.
-
Judging by the range every time I go it's not surprise. I've shot with some people that you pray never see a deer that season because you know it'll be a bad shot. Also people do get buck fever and just mess up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sounds like an easy decision if you ask me.

I was actually talking about the cams on your property. But i agree with you, about going back to the 3 acres.
-
As long as its safe to be out, good luck!

What a great story and great buck! Sounds like an amazing time. Hopefully one day Ill make it up there.

Eastern 3M (New Paltz, HIghland, Gardinier) is...
ATbuckhunter replied to Napping in the woods's topic in Region 3
I haven't been up since Saturday, but in Marlborough, ive seen more rubs then normal that's for sure but not many scrapes. Now in Gardiner (3J I believe) I havent seen many rubs and no scrapes, but I have more big bucks on cam than any other year since I started running cams back in 2010. -
Best one I ever shot was shot in a snow storm while running does. Ill hunt a snow storm any time.
-
Those are some big rubs biz! If i was you I would sit there all day tomorrow. Anything good on cam?
-
What a bruiser! Good luck with him tomorrow!

How many bullets do you bring in the field when you hunt
ATbuckhunter replied to Deerstalker's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Ill take 4 in the gun and at least 4 more loose ones as well. It never hurts to have more no? Now I rarely need to use the second round, but like I said it doesn't hurt me to have extra.
