Can't say I blame you!

I cant imagine not turkey hunting. For the first few years I could never get into the woods at the right time and i would always blow every chance at a turkey I had until this year...my 6th year turkey hunting. For the last 3 years i had given up on turkey hunting and only gone maybe once or twice a season, or not even going at all. I am defiantly hooked now for sure. And for all of you that are complaining about a 4 am wake up call, imagine having to wake up at 2:30 am just to get in the woods by 5.

Lost a friend and good hunter this weekend.

Sorry to hear that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Heard one around 5:10 am yesterday. Heard a few gobbles after he sounded off.

I've been told they're very good to eat, but I haven't brought my self to trying one yet. I know that sea robins which are called gurnards in England are very highly valued over there. Maybe one day ill keep one and find out for my self. I heard they have Y bones so those are going to be a pain to fillet out. BTW that is one big robin! How long was he?

Well I already hit my goal of being able to bench 225 so now i'm looking at 315, but that will be a while from now. Right now i'm just focusing on adding some muscle mass, do more cardio and maybe hit 225 for more than 3 sets of 3 reps.

Well called in another bird, but for my father...this time it was a 3 year old with a 10" plus beard. He came in gobbling and strutting just like we all like to see. Got to 45 yards and would not come any closer...not sure if he actually saw the decoys but he would not come closer. At the time we thought it was around 55 yards and we didn't want to risk the shot so we passed. He eventually worked off but came back when i was getting out of the blind so I spooked him. Hopefully he's there next week. All this happened between 11:30 and 12. I called him from about 300 yards away so I feel accomplished today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Had a jake come in silent. Good thing my father was lying attention to the decoy while we were talking Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Heard some gobbles around 5:10-5:30 but nothing since then. Got one response around 5:35 but that's it for me so far. Took a small walk and did some calling but that needed up with nothing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's great then.

Did the previous owner get any nice bucks from that property? Find any sheds?

QAD for me. I see all the benefits of a drop away as well as being fully contained. I did have a WB for the first year of bow hunting and i was always able to get groups with arrows touching.

That's what I did. Although I was so excited I couldn't even use my pot call after they flew down. Had them coming in once I did start but a hen ruined that.

So yesterday was the first time I actually made it on time to turkey hunt and I was amazed to hear all the turkey gobbling off the roost, I was scared to call to them because I didn't want to sound unnatural. So how do you like to call to them on the roost? I know some people give soft yelps and maybe a fly down cackle.

Yes I know Western NY has some of the best soil in NY, which is a reason why the deer heard is much healthier out there and there tend to be bigger racked deer out there. But many other parts of the state do not have access to the same top grade soil. Also the soil in those top states are actually even better than what we have here.

Good luck!

I said the same until I did today and heard 5 toms gobbling their heads off in all directions for an hour. Shook me up so bad, that I couldn't even properly call on the pot call. Either way good luck to you tomorrow.
-
Try to be in your spot by 4:45 tomorrow, so you can hear them gobbling off the roost.
-
True, but they also have something in abundance that NY does not have...primo farm land with amazing soil. Many people don't know the kind of difference that can make.
-
Heard a ton of gobbling as soon as I walked into the woods and as I was setting up my ground blind. Saw one around 60 yards out walking parallel to me...looked to be a hen but I can't tell for sure. Threw some calls out and got a couple responses but no birds. All in all its a pretty good day so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Missed twice 2 years ago. 2 birds came in hot, and I missed both in 2 shots.

Try going to an apple orchard and getting clippings from their trees. Its free and they produce earlier.

I just experienced this with the mount I picked up a couple weeks ago. The mount I previously had did not have his smell to it. Good thing I only sleep in the room I put it in. I'm sure it'll go away with time

Ya spots on LI are kept secret among friends and highly coveted. I'll be trying rocky point again.
