  1. That's why clippings from those tree's are a sure fire way to get the same kind of apple.
  2. I would suggest taking a few clippings from those older trees and planting those in some small pots, then transferring those larger buckets when its time. These cloned trees generally take less time to start producing and taste exactly as the tree you took it from. I would also suggest planting some from seed because they tend to be more slightly hardy then clones. Also try to get a few kinds of variety if you can...that way you have different drop times as well as cross species pollination. I've grown many fruit tree's and they're pretty easy to take care of and can really produce if you do it right! If you can start it as soon as possible, so it gets a head start. Fall plantings are also pretty good since the tree will be able to create a root system by winter time and have a jump start for the spring. You can defiantly use those 4ft apple trees over at your buddy's, but make sure you take enough soil from the area it comes from. Try your hardest to not damage the roots since that's where all the sap is this time of year. If you do it right, these tree's can produce for a few decades and you'll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor for many, many years. Just remember its not a quick return like planting food plots.
  3. Not at all...that's what I was saying. Mike mentioned republicans in his original post so I thought id mention it.
  4. People would be surprised how many assembly members from NYC come from families with hunters. I know the assemblyman's father my brother worked for was a hunter, so some do understand the need for hunting...he wasn't a republican either.

  6. I personally don't shoot muzzleloaders, but I heard a similar story from my former biology professor who is a life long hunter. I always figured these kind of things happen. If you ever miss the deer with the sabot, you might get it with the ramrod lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Welcome to NYC! I'm sure the hunting will be very different then what your used to, but it's a pleasure to hunt here as well. It's usually not the hardest to gain permission to hunt coyote here and a lot of good predator hunting can be found close to the city. Try looking at Long Island for fox and maybe putnum county for coyote. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Couldn't say for sure since I tend to avoid political conversations, but either way that sounds like a topic for another thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hmm that is defiantly odd. Especially since 30-30 is known for being a great close quarter caliber. I've seen the damage a 30-30 can do at close range with core lokts and its not pretty. As long as your happy with the performance out of your 12 gauge, then keep with what works best for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. My brother is the same way. No matter how many discussions we have he'll never budge from his stance, but at the same time he'll never get me to budge. He's not against guns but believes it's too easy to get them and that those who have then should pay extra insurance. Very frustrating to have someone in my family feel that way about something that is so deeply rooted in our family and even in our culture where we have many traditions that involve guns or shooting guns to celebrate certain moments. It would be nice if we could all just agree to disagree and get out of each others business, but unfortunately gun owners are going to have many more battles to fight on the gun ownership issue. 11. This certainly sounds odd. I've never heard of a bullet not expanding at close range but expanding at longer ranges. May I ask what round you were using and what caliber it was? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Yeah I have to say that I don't see the advantages of a 12 gauge over a .270. A 270 does everything a slug can do, but better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. That way works perfectly fine. I don't save hides get but when I do, I plan to just salt them down. Maybe if I find a good place to send them in I'll do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Nice job! Where did you send the fox off to be tanned? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Should do the job if you use a bullet that will stay together like a Barnes bullet. Shot placement would also be more critical than with bigger calibers. But it'll get the job done if that's all you have on you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I second this! The big box stores are good if the local stores can't get them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. What about a 180 grain bullet? It delivers the most foot pounds on target for the 30-06Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I doubt it would make a difference at 100 yards. If your barrel is free floated, then you can pretty much not care about a thing. I tend to check my rifle a week before deer season because its the most similar weather and I have never seen much of a change at all. If you use quality ammo and scopes, you shouldn't notice a difference at any normal range in NY. Maybe at 400 plus yards you might start to see something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Dicks should have mag blends. If you have somewhere to send them, I would suggest getting reduced recoil mag blends. Make sure you get a choke that is hevi shot compatible because not all chokes are. Bass pro and cabelas have them if your close enough. Buy it online and send it to them. 21. Maybe with the older barrels but from what I read they're perfectly fine to use on today's barrels.
  22. Honestly I hate to spend money too but its worth buying the hevi-shot. I doubt you'll be target shooting with them so youll only use maybe a shell or 2 per season so it comes out alright. If you look carefully, you'll find some hevi shot on sale or with a rebate. I got like 20 bucks off 4 boxes of turkey hevi-shot and so far I only used 2 to sight in and I still have a bunch left for next season.
  23. Like the tittle says, Have you ever tagged a deer you shot and knew you killed it, but you just couldn't find it? I know I did this year when a deer that had a good blood trail abruptly ended and I couldn't find the trail after searching for 100 yards in each direction and a couple of days worth of looking. I ended up filling my tag and reporting the deer because there's no way he could have made it. I have a feeling someone took the deer though because it was a good double lung shot and the blood trail proved it.
