  1. The only downfall of this bullet. Buying loaded ammo is about 2 bucks around which isn't bad if you compare it to slugs but it's still quite the hit to the wallet. It's worth every cent of you ask me. Price goes down if you load the ammo yourself though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Ya I dont believe you have to wait at all either.
  3. Yes they are 100 percent copper bullets. Aside from the environmental benefits of using copper, they are safer for you family as well. I know people have been eating game shot with lead for many years but why should you ingest lead if a perfectly fine substitute is available? They also penetrate better and have a near 100% weight retention so you can use lighter weight bullets and still get the same performance out of a lead bullet. I find that the controlled expansion, expands very well and leave huge exit and sometime a huge entrance wound. They are also extremely accurate in many of the guns I have seen them shot out of. I'll attach a picture of the entrance wound of the buck I shot last weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I think plots are worth it. I would suggest at a minimum to have some timber improvement on your property. Some timber thinning would do wonders by allowing natural vegetation to grow as well as providing cover any maybe a little money for you.
  5. That's what I do every time. I never put a deer in my car that hasn't been skinned. If you can, bring a couple milk jugs filled with water to wash down the meat after you skin it. Double bag the cape if you plan on mounting it just as you said.
  6. I have been using Barnes bullets for 6 years and im very please with my results. Accuracy is sub MOA and the damage done to deer is second to none! Most deer are either dropped on the spot or run a maximum of 40-50 yards. The last deer I shot was a quartering away shot so bullet penetrated about 24" inches and had enough energy to exit next to the shoulder. No doubt they're pricey but worth it IMO. Check out Barnes Vor-Tx if you can.
  7. I'm sure if you sprayed sawyer a on your clothes, it wouldn't be bad. I may start hunting LI again next season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Honestly the best thing you can do is either show a consistent presence there or have a neighbor do the same. If people think someone watching the place, they are less likely to do anything.
  9. in 3j and I heard no more than 20 shots all day opening day. My shot was the only one up until 2pm on Sunday. Defiantly less and less shots every year. Could have something to do with a lower deer population.
  10. Defiantly 2 different bucks! Great looking bucks btw!
  11. I shot my biggest buck (avatar) on December 5th 2009. He was chasing a group of 7 does with another buck.
  12. Like everyone else said, learn to do it your self. There are a lot of videos out there now. It takes no longer then a few hours for me now. You also learn a lot about deer anatomy.
  13. Usually ill draw when the deer is moving but ill make a bleat to stop the deer. Usually they stop on a dime but sometimes they don't care about it.
  14. Got this 8 point at 9:20 this morning that was running just inside the woods 70 yards away. . He had a bad limp and a dislocated shoulder so I decided to take it...the fact that it's a nice deer is just a bonus. I had no more then a few seconds to shoot and I was able to pull off a heart shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Shouldnt effect a thing when it comes to deer. They will effect the bird and small game population though. cats are very efficient hunters.
  16. I hear the Remington managed recoil rounds are pretty good.
  17. If you plant something like clover or something that can handle pressure well, you should have something that draws in deer. You could also try planting nothing for a couple seasons and just letting natural forbs grow...Its cheap and also a huge draw to deer as well.
  18. Cant go wrong with barnes Vor-tx!
  19. 100 for me. As long as you aim for mid lungs you'll always get a double lung at anything up to 100 yards. Cant be more then an 1.5" difference. between 100 yards and anything closer.
  20. I would have because I didn't get a deer during the bow season. Assuming the doe isnt being chased by shooter buck. I actually tried to shoot a doe that was being chased by a few smaller bucks but they were pushing her too hard.
  21. Nothing wrong with a heart/lung shot. If its close enough ill go for the shoulder, but I have also shot deer with a rifle in the lungs only to have it go a maximum of 40 yards.
  22. I love bowhunting but at the same time as soon as gun season rolls around I put my bow down and pick up the rifle. Rifle season has a lot of meaning to me because like many others, its when my grandfather introduced me to hunting.
  23. Congrats to your father! Must have been a great feeling going back somewhere after so long and getting one just hours into his hunt.
  24. He should have been appreciative that your even letting him come to your spot and that you were going to allow him to shoot the 10 if it came to his side. Where you watching the deer when the arrow hit? Hopefully he hit a tree because I've never heard of a hollow sounding hit when an arrow hits a deer.
