  1. Spooked a doe about 20 min ago while doing some coyote calls. It was only maybe 30 yards away but it was in some really thick stuff that I wouldn't want or probably couldn't shoot through. More then likely it would have come out on the trail and I would have shot but no big deal. Heard some movement in the brush maybe 10 min ago but couldn't see anything. It's a beautiful morning today though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I always check my self. Where I normally hunt I luckily don't seem to pick any up, but where ill be this weekend there's a good chance ill pick one up if i step foot into the golden rod. It doesn't hurt to spray your clothing and to check your self after each hunt or outing in the woods.
  3. I plan on getting out on Saturday for a doe. Should be warm which makes the hunting difficult but makes the time more enjoyable. Maybe we'll do a small push and see if that moves something. Never done it before so it should be interesting.
  4. Its the same deer! It was confirmed by the guy who owns that trail cam.
  5. Saw this on LI deerhunting on face book yesterday. Such a shame it was hit by a car and couldn't be harvested by a hunter.
  6. Shot this buck on November 28th at around 9:18 am at 70-75 yards. He was running along a cut hay field just inside the woods about 60-65 yards from my stand. I normally hunt with my father facing one way and me facing the other so when I heard my father snoring I turned to check his side to see if there was anything behind me. I saw nothing so I turned around, but as I turned around I saw the buck running with what looked like a limp. He was directly perpendicular from me in a shooting lane when I saw him so I gave a couple bleats to slow him down so I can get my hearing protection on and my rifle up. He was also running into an area that has a few shooting lanes but they are close together and you need to be quick to get a shot there. I had to make a second bleat to stop him from running again. Once I was all ready I had my rifle aimed at a shooting lane I knew he was going to walk through but he started to run again. I tried to stop him but he wasn't having any of it so I knew it was now or never so I shot. I've practiced shots like this so I was confident in the shot. Well as I was getting ready to shoot my father woke up and watched the shot. Well he thought I missed the deer because all he saw was the head. At the time I thought I might have missed as well because he ran at an angle to where I couldn't see him for more then a quick second. He thought we should stay in the stand because he was almost 100% sure I missed, but I felt that there was no way I could miss this shot and he did look hit and I thought I saw a glimpse of him go down. I convinced him that we should take a look just in case, so we got down about 20 min after the shot. I went to where I thought I hit him and I couldn't find any blood but I decided to take a quick walk because if he was hit, he would be down pretty close. Well after about 10 yards I look up and saw a tree that was covered in blood. Another foot and I saw the deer laying maybe 2 feet from that tree. All in all he went maybe 40 yards from the point he was shot. The shot took out the left lung and severed the heart completely. Turns out his right shoulder was dislocated and he had a healed up wound on his brisket so I'm thinking he got beat by a bigger buck. Good thing this happened early because I had 3 parties to go to so I was only able to hunt until 11 am max. I had to rush the gutting and skinning to make it home in time for my father and I to get ready. I got up at 3 and didn't make it home from those party's until 2 am. Great deer and great parties...what an amazing day! Only bad part is my parents convinced me to mount it so now I'm going to be out 500 bucks, but its worth it.
  7. Nice job! I don't even think you need the whitener...let it stay natural.
  8. Guess im in the minority here, I only take one rifle out for the whole season. Its been my T/C Icon in 30-06 but its the only rifle I own so its a little different for me.
  9. Congrats! That buck has a huge body on him.
  10. Ill be up on Thursday to get a doe or get my father a buck. Only way your guaranteed to not kill one is being on the couch.
  11. If its a buck, I keep it with he antlers but if its a doe I save the tag in an envelope with all the other used tags. I don't usually keep the tag with the meat.
  12. While hunting yesterday, I had to see at least 50 dove within an hours time. I think its time we all finally pull together and get a dove season.
  13. The buck i shot last week didn't have much fat either. The rut can be very hard on bucks. Although the stomach of the buck i shot was filled with acorns. Absolutely nothing but whole and chewed up acorns. Looks like the deer are going to have plenty to eat for the winter when they finally stop.
  14. Must have been one beautiful hunt! No deer movement in 3J and 3M either but I did hear a sharp increase in gunshots this morning.
  15. Im with pygmy on this one! I see no downside to a bullet that penetrates like no other and leaves a nice blood trail...I've never had a deer go very far with one of these in the boiler room. Id think the combination of a nice exit hole, some serious penetration and damage. If only I reloaded, I could make the perfect rig.
  16. Well your certainly having a banner year! Double turkey harvests and now two nice bucks during deer season...could it get any better?
  17. Congrats and awesome story! Always cool to hunt with a piece of history.
  18. Good thing you took her out! Defiantly was going to have a tough time this winter.
  19. Tried calling in some today while deer hunting but got nothing.
  20. I've used it already. I read the manual from Nikon and they say to use some guaze or lens paper cleaner along with a small quantity of absolute alcohol.
  21. So how do you clean your scopes? Looks like I have some dust on my scope that id like to clean. I took a lens brush and took some off, but there are some stubborn particles there. I read a lot of conflicting ways to clean the scope but I hear that microfiber cloths and possibly some kind of solvent (like soap and water) should be used.
  22. Awesome deer! Maybe one day ill get a shot at one.
