Welcome to the dark side! Now you can enjoy some fair weather bow hunts.

Happy Birthday!

I only have 4. I hunt about 71 acres in total between 2 properties so there's not much room for too many more. There are 40 acres that I really haven't even hunted before, but I plan on going there this year.

Ya I've seen some monster deer but also some really small doe. He's right a lot of them can weigh less than 100 pounds since the food quality isn't always the best and the population is so high in a lot of places. I've only ever hunted rocky point so I didn't see anything. If I hunted LI more I'd probably take a few doe since meat is what I'm after most of the time (still let the small bucks go). Split g2's are awesome! That deee would be at the top of my hit list for sure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They will start to hit the field as soon as the fence comes down. Research has shown that they will be in that field the very first night the fence is down. It's a great way to make sure your beans or other crops have a chance to mature instead of being whipped out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They've got some huge bucks there and else where on the island. Biggest deer I've seen were way out east! Even with the poor forage. I heard they want to have a very limited bow season on fire island Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Im around your height actually at 5'10. Your probably going to be around 26.5-27.5. I have slightly longer arms than normal for our height and im barely at 28". The bowtech will know better though.
-
Nothing wrong with 45 pounds though. A good COC broadhead and good shot placement will still have you getting pass throughs.
-
If your able to pull 45 pounds and hold it there or at least 10 seconds, i would think you could do 50 pounds at least with 85 percent let off. Mathews bows are very smooth so I wouldn't be surprised if you could do more.

Im curious as well biz. You seem like an average guy so you should be at least able to pull 55-60 pounds on the low end.

I Got Bit...ignorant dog owners are out there
ATbuckhunter replied to greg54's topic in General Chit Chat
Glad your ok! Any update on what happened to the dog? As bad as I would have felt to report the dog, imagine if it was some kid instead of a grown adult that could fend off the dog. The thing needs to be put down. I've never owned a dog so I can't comment on how much the owner is at fault, but she should at least keep the thing inside if it's already attacked other people. If I had a CC I would have taken the shot as soon as it bit. You don't know if that dog is trying to kill you or just has a tendency to nip. be honest I don't really care to find out either way. Back where my father grew up, a dog like that would have been killed by the OWNER on the spot. It's a German Shepard not a little bird dog or lap dog. They can do some serious damage and even kill if they hit the right spot. That lady had zero shame to not even ask if you were ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Wow 6'1 in the 8th grade. I'm 21 and 5'10 lol. Sounds like he has a very bright future ahead of him! Let's hope he can keep his focus on sports and not on girls come high school. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Id be interested in joining the chain email. I'm not really trying to cut down since I stay lean most of the year, but I'm always interested in hearing about fitness and what works for people.

Quake, The Claw Rifle Sling
ATbuckhunter replied to grampy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Your right it didn't back out all the way, but it was a lot more than half a turn. I get paranoid about it so I'm constantly checking it and half a turn off seems to be the norm. It's really not a big deal anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Are gators protected in NY state? You might be able to score a free gator hunt if they're not.

Quake, The Claw Rifle Sling
ATbuckhunter replied to grampy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I have the one you picked up on my rifle and the one in your original post for my turkey gun. I prefer the one you picked up, but both are absolutely great. It really doesn't slip at all once you put in on your shoulder. Just be sure to check the swivel time to time, because I have had them back out on me before. I've had it for about 7 years and it looks as good as the day i took it out of the package. Definitely worth every dollar in my opinion. -
If you'd like I could probably get my hands on some boar skulls the next time I head to Europe. The area my family is from is now over run with Russian Boar and I have no desire to keep more than one boar skull. Very nice work though!

How about someone growing pot on your land. My grandparents went turkey hunting about 4 or 5 years ago on their land and found a nice little grow the guy had going. I had seen the plants at the start of turkey season, but at the time I didn't know what the plant looked like. Last season after a funny feeling I decided to swing by the property on my way down from salmon fishing and found someone bow hunting Literally right under my tree stand. When I asked him what he was doing he said he was hunting one xyz's land. Well I quickly informed him that the land has been in my family for 30 years and the guy who gave him permission was a liar. Well that guy was very respectful and we ended up shaking hands. To my knowledge he never stepped for on the land again. Judging by his friends criminal record he's probably the one that planted the pot. One other time I shot a deer opening day of gun season back in 2010. When I climbed down to field dress and tag the deer, I realized I left my tags as well as my knife back at the car (about 2-300 yards away). I quickly turned back to get my tags and knife from my truck. When i got to my car I heard 2 shots from where I was hunting. The land owner was also hunting that day and I figured he shot one. When I was walking back I see the land owner with a buck in his hands, so naturally I was thrilled and went to go congratulate him. I was a little confused when I got close and saw him holding the buck I just shot. Turns out 2 guys came in trespassing and shot at the big 8 I was chasing that year (too bad I didn't hold out for that guy). The guys missed the deer, but stumbled upon the deer that I shot and tried to drag it away. The landowner saw it and confronted the guy about it. The guy came up with the story that he missed the 8 and got the 5 point I had gotten. Turns out this guy has been causing problems for years all over the place. On the same property I shot a nice buck back in 2015 that dropped 15 feet on the neighbors property. I had permission to retrieve so I went to get the buck. Another neighbor saw our orange vests and come over to yell at us for trespassing. After accusing us of a long list of crimes (as well as trespassing) he then realized that he we weren't the guys that have been causing problems in the area. Turns out i have trail cam pics of this guy trespassing on our land and he even admitted he did including carrying a deer rifle during the youth season (with no youth with him). I predict ill have another run in with him this year.

Like everyone has said, we don't all agree all the time...but then again who does? Families don't get along all the time. Generally we have a really solid group of guys that are always here to help each other. I still believe this is one of the best state specific forums and one of the best hunting forums out there.
