I started well before the invention of the first three wheeler and the drag was part of the hunt . It figured into the shot, do I have time to get it out ? Is this small doe worth the time to drag across a plowed muddy field , do I have help and so on. To me what makes Buckmaster 7600’s stories so cool is he follows a track into the mountains with little more then a gun, and walks out with the gun and deer . If he used an atv it just wouldn’t be the same . Guys will often say , “ if I can no longer ( fill in the blank ) I’ll stop hunting , “ well if I can no longer drag my deer ,may very well , be it for me . I’ll come drag your deer any day , it’s a fun workout , like dragging the weighted sled by ropes .

Heck I’m right handed , but switched to shooting left handed with a left handed rifle , due to a weak right eye, no problem. Then I had Lasik eye surgery and went back to a righty rifle . This year, because of the bucks placement , I leaned against a tree to my left and shot my right handed gun gun left handed . Not a problem ,other then I use gloves that are half gloves / mittens, and didn’t flip down the mitten part at first ....

Interesting views on cutting up your own , and Now that my garage is more open I should maybe give it a try . But frankly , I love my processor he’s a great guy and I enjoy going ,seeing all the deer , talking to the hunters ,breaking chops . I’ll sit in the hot tub and smoke a cigar while he does the work . Going to Uncle Charlie,my processor is a big part of my season . If I stopped hunting ,I’d still stop by . That said I feel you should drag your deer out, not call Uber, aka atvs and tractors . I figure that into taking the shot , how much light is left , how muddy are the crop fields , are the ditches to full of water to cross and so on ,of course, a big buck all bets are off . I think in 40 some years of hunting , maybe three of my deer came out on a atv . But that’s me . Took ,me 2 hours to get my archery buck out a short 430 yards , my forearms hurt for a couple days, and my hands hurt for a few more ,all part of the hunt to me . edit : my archery buck was done the next day, my gun buck I dropped off Sat night at 6 , it was ready Monday morning , but I got it today out of his freezer .

Years ago I’d tag out and be done early ,I wanted help my buddies but I couldn’t . Then I thought the law changed and as long as you had a license, you could push, drive and so on , I remember because I was very happy to be able to participate. I read the guide and looked online, but did not come up with anything .

I brought mine to Uncle Charlie, at 6:00 Sat. Night , it was tagged #80 . Today when I picked it up , there were more then I remember seeing prior years . Who knows what’s responsible for that , more killed ,less processors,a combo ?

If I go deeper then half a mile ,id hit the next road . Never see another hunter either ,but not public land

Guy at work would aways say, that you have to hunt behind the houses after gun starts .....

Congrats Grampy ! We saw 3 bucks today, S , M, and L , big guy was chasing a doe , to thick to shoot . Joe passed on the M 8pt right under his stand . They were spending manure all around us all day 4-5 pieces of equipment . Nice warm day too !

Slow till a wall hanger chased a doe by. Then a young buck joined in. Hoping for a good afternoon

Dead here. But between the manure spreaders and some guy bombing around all the fields on a utv that sounds like a loud model airplane ,it’s cutting off some travel routes . going to regroup soon..

Hunting / not hunting . I’m in a hut listening to the radio , wishing I brought food ( something I almost never do ) . Trying to get Joe a buck , he’s in a back stand , and now they’re spraying g manure in the field just behind him .....

Put Kathy in a new stand a bit behind her normal one, deer all over there yesterday ,zippo today .From my spot I watched three young bucks one after another cross the small bean field . Pulled a SD card near Kathy’s stand ,opening day 7:30 very nice buck , we sat in a hut that morning ..... Land owner got a great 8 tonight . All day today tomorrow with a buddy, well minus a long lunch and nap in the truck . I’m not shooting ,just guiding .

Slow yesterday AM , but we watched a small field as my hut there has heat,and my daughter gets cold .Camera there showed bucks after does there a Thursday AM . On stand in the afternoon in the woods, deer on their feet from 2:30 , bucks with does, lots of rutting activities. 8H

Ok I lied , I said any buck in gun would have to be substantially bigger then my bow buck . Zippo this morning and only heard two guys shoot . This afternoon deer everywhere , had a stare down with the big 11 I got on camera and that was on the walk in ! At least a dozen deer between 2:45 and 4:15 , in fields and all four compass points around me in the woods . I owe that to my scent control program of Irish Spring soap and Mennen Speed stick . So 4:15 a doe and this guy are behind me , I watch them for 4-5 minutes doesn’t have mass or tine length, but he looks head on and looks wide, not sure. Then he clears some trees and I got a shot ,ok I take it. He runs ,doe runs ,deer I didn’t see in field runs , then he stops ,he showed zero sign of being hit ! I climb down walk 75 yards and there he lays. Guy behind comes over with his atv, takes it to his house,I drive over and he loads it into my truck with his tractor. Feel somewhat bad, one less buck for my daughter , but I got plenty more on cam and saw three others tonight .

The big 11 with crooked brows was watching me walk in . 100 yards standing in an open field ! But head on and cant shoot on that land . He was dogging A doe that made it onto my woods , do who knows edit deer everywhere

Packed it in daughter doesn’t last long, heard a single and double shots that’s it ! Unreal . These two bucks would have been a cake shot from the hut two mornings ago ....

I only one shot heard , with snow and large crop fields, that’s unreal .

Got up 4:45 heading down at 5:15 , good luck to all .

we’ll be in this hut with a buddy heater, and a Coleman one , if my daughter lasts till 9:00 I’ll be pleased . Then we’re outta there , I’ll come back 2 ish .
