Some issues are , so many of the youth today are weak ,which is so few few can pass the entrance qualifications ,of the few strong and capable ones left, joining todays woke military is not for many of them . When we have to muster up a true fighting force it won’t be good . Historicity the Military also offered a way up , and sometimes out for many segments of our society . I know many who’s training lead to good jobs, including those who used the Veterans points on civil service exams to land great Fire and LEO jobs, my wife’s cousin left the AF with a Bachelors, paid for by Uncle Sam then got a Law degree .

Carry permits, jokes on you suckers !
Nomad replied to Nomad's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Our county clerk did a radio interview in which she said ,Monroe county has between 60000 and 70000 concealed carriers and adds 2000 per year . The judges said they don’t know how they can interview 2000 every year. There’s absolutely no way they can interview / and process the existing 60-70k carriers that have to renew over the up coming three years and go through the process as if they’re new application’s. Not to,mention how these numbers can all take a 16 hour class with live fire , which doesn’t yet even exist. Ive had multiple training classes, Hunter ed, Florida’s and Utah’s training class of four hours each , and others I I took on my own . I also took the training to teach Hunter ed of which firearm safety and handling was a big part . Mrs Nomad and I just renewed our permits, so we’re good for three years ,and by then hopefully it’s all struck down . I also co registered my guns on three other permits in different parts of the state , in case I lose my NY permit . Don’t forget you’ll need a fire proof gun safe in your vehicles ,for your long guns If you leave them unattended, like buying food on the way to camp , or running to town for lunch and not having a camp or house to store them in . Otherwise you face a felony haha . “But but but I just own a couple hunting guns “ ya they don’t like you either . -
That’s good starting pay, I made more on the FD with 100% healthcare on the job and in retirement along with a great pension . Zero college . But I did have to show up 42 hours a week . I couldn’t imagine being home all day and night with my wife ! Not seeing each other for days at a time may have been why we made it this long !

We retired . The boomers were the largest workforce , the ones under us don’t have the numbers to fill all the positions we vacated . Hell it would take two to fill my spot alone . I get working from home , guy next to me is a project manger handles 1/5 of the country for his firm , he leaves for lunch each day ,and occasionally cuts the grass mid day. But otherwise he puts in a full day ,this 2-4 hours a day is mind boggling . Meanwhile ,cops, teachers ,firemen, tradesmen , nurses are working 40-50 . Well a lot of cops here are working 16 hour days . Oh and don’t ask me to,pay your damn college loan, ( I paid cash for our kids ) maybe take another job and work 4-8 hours a day . And Bill ,I never had a job where I didn’t bleed, sweat ,and limp , kept me in shape these take a nap kids were grossly out of shape , and pale , perhaps nap outside ?

So our oldest had a Independence Day party at our home , a bunch of 30 year olds I’ve known for many years , some how the topic turned to working from home which many of them did, they averaged 4 hours of work a day ,wtf ? One guy ,” I work from 7-9, then I workout , take a nap, eat lunch, after lunch I check some emails . “ Another ,” I work 4 hours a day and take a bunch of naps .” This continues around the patio , I was shocked really . One guy there works skilled trades 50 hours a week , lives in the Rochester area , one day he maybe working in Albany ( six hours driving ) the next Buffalo , I bet he’d like a nap …. Or our daughter the RN 12 hour night , which with lunch and finishing up is more like 13 then and travel time ,you basically go home and try to sleep, after three night shifts it’s a full day to try and recover . Now I’m sure some work more, like our other daughter does ,a CPA manager, she does 70 hours plus half the year ,and 40 the rest . Its interesting that half workforce works a couple to four hours a day from home , while hands on people are doing 40-50 hours .

Is there a new pistol law now ??
Nomad replied to luberhill's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
No worries ,I’m extremely upset over the whole thing , I came on to strong ,I’m sorry . Yes it’s law, and yes it’s confusing, I believe it takes effect 9/1/22 I’m not 100% on that , many or all of the details need to be worked out still . Like how can one fire a gun in a class to get your permit ,when you need a permit to fire a gun . Current holders , will need to take the class prior to the first time they recert , recert also requires you give them your social media accts. , interview with the judge and on and on . Then basically you can’t carry anywhere, many places will become “ sensitive areas” and all businesses, need to post a sign saying concealed carry allowed, which few in NYS will, it’s a felony if your caught carrying where there is no sign . -

Wow just wow, been all over the news for days , there’s several threads here on it , now one more . Class is for new application and the first time existing holders do their recertification , which also includes an in person interview with the Judge, you know the guys who barely have time to even sign them now . Along with a written test where the passing score is 80% and the subject matter ranges from laws to de - escalation techniques ha ha ha . I’m well stocked but still buying more, todays haul , glad to find .357 we may be back to cowboy guns soon … -

Above ground pool... What am I getting myself into?
Nomad replied to mowin's topic in General Chit Chat
My installer had me layout where the pool would go, so any setbacks being off would be on me . Doing yard this spring , before the filter and pump were back out , the grounding wire was sticking out of the ground . Mrs Nomad grabs it and starts yanking while saying what’s this doing here !? -

I know someone who put one in and the town would come over say do this or that , but there was so much new construction going on they never had the time to see if anything was done ….. Lots of people run a cord with the ends that nobody will admit exist , till they get to the proper install . -

Ours is 20 or so,years old , I know as our 31y/o was here today using it and said we got it when she was 11 . Start up ,install, electric , and we did a small deck just big enough to get in and out ,plus store some tubes ,after that yearly cost is low . Opening and closing is idk a few hours . I never do much chemical wise , some chlorine, and occasionally have the water tested and maybe add some other stuff . In 20,years I’ve had the pump rebuilt and bought a new head . But we use it still do ,heck our kids come back just to use it , today daughters friends were here , 20 years for them too ! Many told me at a certain age kids stop using it etc . That wasn’t our case, but more importantly the Mrs and I use it a lot , she exercises in it daily ,so,for us it works out . At the time the install wasn’t bad, my buddy did the electric , and myself and two guys from work knocked out the deck in a day , so materials only . -
July 4th,beer and hotdogs . But not a time for fancy man’s beer .
-
FYI . IHeart radio has a loop of “ forth of July “ songs , that may be good background music for your celebrations .

Work party many years ago . A guy is holding a powerful but unlit m80 type device , like he’s going to throw it ,so back along the side of his head . Another guy came up behind him and lit it , once he realized that, he was able to let go which saved his fingers, but his right ear never heard as well as prior .

I think some here go by the square footage . As to the question , yes . If he’s stupid enough to temp fate , it’s time to remove him from the gene pool . If the neighbors wouldn’t blow me in ,I’d shoot them here !

Dont go to the rib fest there , or at night … There’s been a few violent incidents there this year, a women was held up at gun point in the lot a few nights ago . A deadly beating there in May .

Few businesses will put new money into their industry when the Governments , plan is to shut them down . Yes those EV batteries burn hot and long , sometimes reigniting hours later at the tow yard . Normal car fires go out rather fast and the fire company is back in service in a half hour or so, and much of that is waiting for fire investigation to get there . It’s a whole new problem for FDs with much to figure out , and new SOGs to write . The batteries in electric bikes, scooters and such have caused a number of fires in NYC, where I guess they’re popular . One issue is people tend to charge them in the entry ways of buildings , so the fire ends up blocking egress . Oh well job security!

Give me a heads up for events like this !
