  1. This has been the most boring sit in the history of deer hunting , two hours not one deer ! This had better change !
  2. First stand choice all flooded which would be fine but zero tracks there . Every other place is loaded . Saw 4 running a big field stopped truck , they crossed and ran another and crossed that road . This time of season a slight bump sends them two three roads over around here. Wet heavy snow no wind dead quiet.
  3. Let the games begin ! Wife just left for the weekend , I’ll be on stand in a bit, then liquor store and hot tub . Rinse and replete .......
  4. Good luck TF ! Just walked the dog, seems like nice night to hunt, no wind, upper 30’s and the sun is coming out ! But we’ve got the Trans Siberian Orchestra tonight , so here I sit ,inside .
  5. I agree somewhat , but you can catch your prey , a bus, a buzz, a cold . So as odd as it may sound ,it’s not to far off . Catch you on the flipside , Nomad.
  6. Hey one day before my 60th birthday, last time I won a rifle , this time should be even better ! And it is first Class, I’ll be a regular from now on .
  7. I too had no idea who he is , don’t watch hunting shows or read any hunting mags . After your post I will check out the book, though .
  8. Thanks for posting , that was great ! I feel if I hunted there , that buck would get a pass .
  9. Ok thanks . Sounds like me as well .......
  10. This year I’ve opened some for the first time and they never heated up . Anyone experience that ? Bought a box on sale a few years back . For my feet, I don’t shower prior to a hunt ,as they never seem to be completely dry no matter how much I towel them off and my socks pick up moisture and foot cools down. For a AM hunt I shower the night before, a PM hunt at least two hours prior, and use a hairdryer on my feet . I put paper towels in my Muck boots when I get home and almost always will they come out a little damp, Great for, pulling out any moisture. Dry means warm , I also never wear more then one pair of socks ,your toes / feet should move freely in your boots .
  11. No interest since Sunday, when I filled freezer . This week end Friday PM, maybe Sat AM , Sunday for sure 55 and SUNNY ya baby ! Daughters last sit Monday PM so I need to stay clear of that stand . Got permission ( she’s not known for giving that ) from neighboring land owner to use her land for access yesterday , with the ditch flooded, it’s the best route . I played all my cards, I was dressed nicely , mentioned my daughter hunting , explained we owned the land across from her , drove the Subaru, wore my FD watch cap . I call it the Eddie Haskel approach . Good luck fellas
  12. Cabin Fever , I get that , wish we broke the cycle when the kids were born . My nephew did , and did well in Tenn. now his kids will start their life there. His parents ,my sister and bil are doing fine if that changes there are others her to step up, or he can move them down .
  13. Like many here loved them, but now mostly a thing of the past . We had up to a dozen guys , many who’ve done them for decades . Small farm woods and creek beds, I’d put red buckets at spots I wanted new watchers to sit, don’t move the bucket ,don’t stand ten feet away , sit on the bucket . I got a couple, guys from work their first deer, by having them stand on a two foot square of ground and just waiting . We,often had watchers 1/4 to 1/2 mile away sitting on the next woods over , and could predict almost to the tree where the deer would run . Great fun, don’t miss all the walking in muddy farm fields for hours .
  14. Opposite here, wife would leave NYS tomorrow. I only stay as both our kids are here, when they marry, I could see leaving . My sisters son moved to Tennessee after college , he now has kids in high school. My sister sees those kids almost as much as the ones here. They go for a week or two at a time a few times a year . Compare that with a couple hour visit once or twice a week with the ones here . Most of my wife’s friends have already moved away, and more of our friends are planning ,some already buying land . we’re gone for the month of a Feb this year, and that’ll only increase as years go by, can’t see why older folks would stay here winter time . My folks had a ball in FLA for close the 30 winters .aways thought they should have stayed a bit longer and made FLA their residence.
  15. All good points , the hardwoods has been more active I believe because other areas are so wet . Trouble is I can’t cross ditch to get to stands, then many of those stands are in the middle of deep water anyway .
  16. I’m hoping by Friday afternoon, hoping I can again cross the ditch at ONE spot, I know I’ll never reach the other stands this gun season. Probably mute there anyway the whole area around them is underwater , normal wet spot but not all flooded a foot deep . Best hope is only a couple thousand feet of water and mud to walk through to upper woods . Fri- Mon looks good weather wise . Buckmaster, you sound like my friend Dave, he always said , “ first worry about getting one down, then getting it out .” My plan with the flooded ditch .
  17. I would think about using the rearward mount , as it sounds you’d be pulling gun up muzzle first , even “ unloaded “ something I’m not comfortable with .
  18. Oh good more rain today ..... Creeks and ditches already at crest, fields and woods flooded, mud and more mud . Not sure if daughter and I will be able to reach any stand tomorrow, .
  19. So a friend of mine works for a major police dept around here . His job is processing stolen guns, one used in crimes , and revoking pistol permits . He’s a pro 2 A guy btw . I asked him what he would revoke one for . He said guys have them stolen from unlocked car consoles, or loose them and don’t report it for six months or a year , he said that’s irresponsible. So If i would, report it , that would be after a week or ten days giving me time to look everywhere 100 times , but say like two days ago . If it turns up, I’d say something along the lines of , “ I thought it was in my basement gunsafe, but I found it in a wall safe in the guest room, or something along those lines .Something better then it slid down in my truck seats . Hope that never occurres , but I’ll adimt to Looking frantically around the house for a few minutes ......
  20. Nice job ApexerER. So,is that land posted behind you ....... he sure likes posted signs .
  21. It was minus 4 yesterday in Westchester? Accuweather said 32 . At least use a pic without give aways .
