  1. I have no problem carrying my Shield 9mm in the summer and I'm in shorts everyday . I wear untucked short sleeved , buttoned , collard shirts . I put the gun on today after the gym , went shopping, to the bank, walked the dog and now I'm lying in my recliner and don't even feel it on my hip . If this was summer the only difference would be my pants would stop at my knee .... And my shirt Sleeves would stop at the elbow . There are times in the summer I drop the 380 in a pocket , like if I'm wearing a wife beater or gym shorts . I kinda look at it like this , if I need to use one what one would I want? The 9 hits harder has more rounds and is easier to hit with and at greater distances . I wonder if anyone who had to use there gun ever said I wish I had a smaller gun that was harder to hit with and had less rounds? Yes it's all a compromise or we'd tote shotguns and ARs but today's slim 9 mm are easy to carry. Over the years I've carried a SW 357 L frame and Glock 40 , the 357 was uncomfortable but with a baggy shirt no body knew. A slim 9 is a piece of cake to carry. While the 9 on the right is a little, much for me to pocket carry compared to the 380 on the left ,its a joy to carry all day on the belt and hides easy.
  2. Well just picked up 100 rounds of 380 and 250 of 9 mm today, to add to my pretty large stash. Both have come along way of late but 9mm is a more serious SD round and with guns like the Shield have become easy to carry all day. I'm trading in my Glock 40 that I've owned since the early '90s for a mod.19 9mm next week . The baby 380s like my lcp are a nice pocket gun , but hollow points when they expand in this round don't penetrate and hardball penetrates but leaves a small wound channel . There are some interesting rounds coming out in this caliber that may well improve things . Yes shot placement is always key. For a one gun, carry , home defense , target and so on and I'd go 9mm with out a second thought .
  3. I "lost" all my magazines of over ten rounds a couple years back in a tragic boating accident.

Neighbor is getting me some Heady Topper soon, and in April I hope to make a run to Vermont to grab some myself .
  5. Gus with his favorite pair of Maui Jims, I believe he's watching his favorite episode of Peanuts .
  6. http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Farmer Ok for a back up knife with saw this is hard to beat. I like a saw for camp/survival purposes , look around and you'll see the woods is mostly wood...., so for shelter building, tool making ,some fire wood prep. a saw is great .Saves the knives edge and works faster than a blade and with this one you could saw through pvc pipes and 2x4 s , not that you'd likely need to just showing its a capable saw. Great for those saplings you never cleared, faster and easier then a folders blade.
  7. Well here is Gus , he spent a solid hour moving rocks with his nose to get after a mouse in this rock wall in Bristol . Any other questions ? He's a knuckle head, I got him from the pound at two, years old. He did everything he could to escape the house and for a couple years i chased him all through the neighborhood. One time I found him when he got trapped on the cover of a built in pool down the street . I tried to " cage train " him but he broke out twice , by that I mean he broke the welds on the bars and got out , if he could not break out he would do,that sweet beagle hollow for hours....., I never tried to train him for hunting , I was happy when he stopped chewing up everything ...... Now he is a great family dog and is awesome at recovering deer. I admire those who,can train these dogs for rabbits and such , I'm not one though .
  8. I don't really follow football , the wife watches a bit and I like whoever pisses folks off so I was pulling for N.E. wow the winning owners wife is pretty rough , though I wish I bought stock in Botox , no I wish I turned the channel sooner that image is sure to haunt me .....
  9. It's acidic which removes the patina .Oh and it's is a FF pole , it spans two floors and its excessable by opening a door on the second floor and there is a good foot of padding around the base . Who knows though what all its uses were. I'll look the guy up to see if he was married or not. Edit. Married wife is 42 ,two young kids . There is also an indoor batting cage and half court BB court plus full gym and movie theater.
  10. I zealized that right after I posted , but decided to leave it . So you were born on Feb 29th ?
  11. Agree with everyone else about her raising and such. I've chaperoned two 8th grade trips to DC. Now our middle school took only those with medical, law enforcement or FD experience . My group was myself( fire lt/ emt )and two cops. We had radios as well as cell phones, head counts , sealed kids doors with tape at night , lists of kids, their contacts any medical conditions and on and on ...... Check into what there protocols are for the chaperones , are they adults ? and what's their backgrounds ? Btw so many don't realize that more scholarships come from art and music than sports.....
  12. Our Nephew recently bought a 13,000 sq home from a MLB player, just saw them this week end , his wife said the house has a firemans pole and since I'm a FF she asked me how to clean it I said " that might not be a firemans pole.....check around it for glitter ".
  13. Used to enjoy catching rattlers in the Arizona deserts. We used about four feet of 3/4,inch pvc with a doubled over piece of coat hanger duct taped onto the end . Tastes like chicken !!
  14. Ive been gong to Costanzas since Tony worked out of his garage off Bay road . This year I dropped close to $300 on his products . Uncle Charlie is a friend of mine as well, we go back to when he owned the grocery store at what Central Park and Scio ? He would open carry his .357 in the store, like he was this year cutting deer after another friend and local business owner was held up in his driveway on Lake rd. I've had a lot of products made buy others at cheaper prices, and I gladly pay Tony for his .
  15. Br 549 is also the name of one of my favorite hillbilly rock bands . I also have a garage wall of old plates going back to the early '50's .
  16. Re reading this thread reminded me of when I hunted by my home here in Webster . My best stand was less than 75 yards from the parking lot of the town barn, guys would leave work yelling , slamming doors, burning out, and mature bucks would be staged by my stand. I could hear kids playing outside at Klem South school, along with leaf blowers and dogs.... My best turkey I took across from Wilink middle school, it was hard to hear him as they were having gym class outside . It's a kinda funny when you think of of it, I've hunted " out west" and it was easier to kill a nice buck In the wilds of Montana than the suburbs of NY. There's areas where you see 300 deer a day and half the guys hunt out of pick ups , ok make that most guys .
  17. Very nice ! I hope to get to me spot next week to do some work and walk a bit . Congrats !
  18. I know a guy who took over 20 deer in one year in the Town of Irondequote bow hunt . It would be hard to,get more suburban than that . My friends parents house was on a private dead end st. In Webster, it was the last house on the St. Behind it was a creek then a woods . The owners would be in Fla. starting from Nov. 1. The family room over the garage made a very nice spot to shoot deer from .
  19. Nice to see a few knife guys around here . A guy I work with has made a few out of files, wonder bars and lawn mower blades, with basically a belt sander , grinder and hand tools. They're a bit rough but functional . He just made a friction folder , the neat part is the blade came from one of my Dads files ! When my Dad died I gave him a bunch of his tools including a pile of files . I think it's cool to be able to make your own knife . With stock removal method you just remove all the metal that does'nt look like a knife ....
  20. I might do a night in my little hut where I deer hunt this winter , wanted to awhile now. As far as campgrounds , I've backpacked in several western states , hunted out of wall tents in Montana with deep snow and lows into the single digits , canoed in places like the Yukon and had great fun in NYS campgrounds too! We'd go with several families , the kids could just take off for the day on their bikes , no TV no practices , just be kids. We'd have kickball games, It's where my kids learned to canoe , fish , build a fire . We'd make up games around the fire and often other sites would come over and join in. It's not roughing but it's way fun. A winter week end in Letchworths cabins would be fun.
  21. Just texted my nephew in Nashville, he moves in some big circles , NFL players, country stars, pretty big business people . He's had it and will keep an eye out for it , I was hoping he had connections to,it. He's had it at Blake Sheltons producers farm ..... Bullets, Bourbon and BBQ party.
  22. Ha, I thought well maybe I'll try that Pappy Van Winkle mentioned here , $80-$250 retail , ok I'll pick up a bottle to try. Basically you can't . Very low production only one store in the area carries it and most stores get a couple bottles per year that they either raffle off or hold for top customers . On the secondary market its possible to find at $1,500 and up....... Empty bottles have sold for as much as $300. So if one could buy it retail , you could drink it ,sell the empty bottle and make a profit !
  23. 56 Y/O , rocks glasses 3 cubes at least two shots. Eagle Rare , Knob Creek, Makers Mark . Not really much of a Bourbon guy , but Im open to learning . I'm more into Gin and Irish Wiskey and malty beers.
  24. Basically they don't like surprises when it comes to guns. You have no duty to report it, but some will appreciate you telling them so,your choice . Myself if I'm hunting and have only one long gun it rides uncased on my back seat action open and no visible ammo, they look in your back seat as the approach the car, so,hands on wheel , window down no sudden reaching is my policy . I've never told them about my handguns , but my wallet is out and on the dash before they reach the car , if you have to reach anywhere near your gun , you may want to,mention it again your choice. Two summers ago coming home from Old Forge I got lazy and since I was not stopping did not put my 9mm on and placed it in glove box, my registration and insurance card are in center council . I get stopped by NYSP , he walks up my wife opens glove box and reaches in ... I thought about yelling " she's got a gun" ! Instead I just told her where the papers were , but I never had to produce them . That was a close call even though she knows where the papers are as it was her car and saw me place gun in box. It stays on my hip now.
