that whole notion is largely being reversed , Oakland just put money back into their budget for cops and FF, as defunding just brought about increase crime , huh go figure . One thing I’d like to see is stop hiring small weak men and women . Hire big strong men who can fight if needed, oh ya bring back the straight wood baton too . To many of today’s cops can’t fight ,they can’t get a man out of a car , so they end up being dragged by the car ,then having to shoot the driver . Other times they end up using pepperspray or the Taser, both which have significant issues limiting their usefulness, then all that’s left is the gun . A big strong cop that can go hands on , often solves things right there , if not a couple strikes with the baton often gained compliance and both parties lived to,tell, their stories . It was a better less lethal weapon , then all the those that came after , the latest is a device that shoots a bolo to tangle up a person . Lol bring back the lasso !

Sure, so,far nothing older then the ‘40s mostly . I know a guy who dives for them in Canandaigua Lake ,he’s been helping with age and such , he wants to buy any Canandaigua Union bottles I find . Frankly unless these are worth big money you both can have any I find . Are there any marks I can ID them by other the well Clyde glass works . Here’s an older Mason Jar, that cleaned up,well, screw top, though .

Some may beg to defer , some of the guys I occasionally hunted there with over the last 20 some years , have hunted the park hard , for 30-40 years very successfully . We seldom encounter another bow hunter , gun season my Buds rent cabins for a month straight , but it’s a far different game with the number of clueless guys who come in gun . Many of my buddies leave 6 to,10 stands up,year round ,as well as running cams year round , few hunters show up on the cams . I agree on not wanting to walk , we bring a rope system to rig a 4 to 1 hauling system , as it’s much an easier way to get some out of the bottom . Also in bow the Park Police have been known to open gates for us to drive down closed roads to get closer .

That’s not correct in all places, I’ve dealt with hundreds of recreational fires, we used to tell folks the same thing back in the day , “ cooking fire .” We were wrong . Most calls were for complaints of smoke bothering a neighbor , but really they just don’t like you, they tried calling cops for the loud party ,but they’re backed up ,so they call us . The FD does not handle air quality issues anyways , that’s a dept of a health issue . Our county , which I believe is based on state laws ,but not 100% sure, goes by this. Recreational fires in a container , can be 15 feet from a structure, just on the ground 25 feet, must be “ fire wood” not trash, used furniture and so on, must have a means to put it out ( a cooler of ice water was OK with me ...), must extinguish when done, bonfires require a permit . You do not need to be “ cooking “ as you can legally have a recreational fire, but if that’s what works in your area , go for it .

Best of luck ! Our oldest is a RN at Strong , it’s a great job, one she’s proud of , but a tough one the schedule is a b!tch . When she was on a med / surg floor the constant switching back and forth between days and nights takes it’s toll , honestly when on a 12 1/2 hour night you just go home and sleep until it’s time to work again . You first day off is spent sleeping . But it’s rewarding and you can get another job in any city in a blink of an eye . She got a job in NYC , moved in with her BF . When she had enough of him, Strong gave her ,her old job back, as if she never left . After five years she got a M-F day job , a goal of many nurses .

I don’t find hunting with a compound any great challenge. I started in the ‘80s with a Golden Eagle , shot it fingers ,off a flipper rest with a single brass pin sight, 2117s with feathers two blade Mangus . Killed a buck my first year and most years since . Used that set up 18 years . I can pick up,the bow after months and shoot just as well as ever . One neat thing about having worked for the FD is there’s tons of hunters , and each year ,guys pick,up a bow for the first time , many kill deer their first year . We shot at work and newbies are hitting a dollar Bill at 20 yards from the get go . I know many who don’t shoot their compound till just before the season starts or sometimes after , as they wait for the rut to,hunt . Most I know started bow hunting ,because its easier to get a chance at at bigger buck . Some of you fellas are acting like you grow your own Yew tree , flint Knapp the heads , and caught the fish for the strings .

Stopped a boat load of deer with Baaa, or whistle, not running ones though ( slugs work well though ) , and you gotta be ready to shoot fast . Ive found adding a sign also helps .

That’s a question for your county pistol permit folks . From talking to my friend who approves and revokes them for the city near me , my two take aways were , unlocked vehicles ,and not knowing when it was stolen. Think about it when one applies , at least here , there’s questions on the paperwork , on where the gun will be stored . Everyone says a safe or lock box of some kind . If they said “ oh I’ll keep it loaded in my unlocked truck” do you think they’ll get a permit ? So step one press the lock button on your key fob . Step, two unload it, hide each separately do something , buy a lock box for the truck or trigger lock ,anything to show responsibility.
-
I get it Steve , and I agree with others that taking his long guns was uncalled for . But look at this from the laws side, a presumably loaded gun was left in an unlocked? truck, and then when he couldn’t find it in the truck , he wasn’t even sure it was there to start with . On gun forums , leaving handguns in vehicles is a hot topic , with most avoiding that as much as possible. Vehicles are broken into more then homes ,it easier ,safer and faster , then there’s the unlocked ones . I know one guy who leaves his unlocked and empty, because the addict down the street has broken his windows so many times . Oh and that’s in Pittsford btw . I don’t have time to list all the guys I know who’s vehicles have been broken into ,but it spans from firehouse parking lots to Wegmans . Most of my gun guy friends have bought console safes for their trucks , I use a lock box with a cable , for the rare times I leave it .
-
Not surprised his permit was revoked . I have a friend who works for the “ firearms unit “ of a pretty large PD , he told me awhile back, part of his job was revoking permits . Curious , I asked what they would be revoked for ? His reply was “ guys lose a gun and don’t report it for like six months , and guys have them stolen out of unlocked vehicles, he said that’s just irresponsible.

Well I figured I’d see where I am in drawing the compound . These are my first three @ 20 yards , first shot was four fingers high and a bit left . Shot two more groups of three, all in the white circle . Drawing was ok ,not smooth but doable, but the pain kicks in after anchoring , nine shots is about max, and shoulder is sore . Looks like another year of maybe 100 practice shots or so .
-
Well he said they take weekend rides, so I’m guessing he’s going by trucks in the access lots or parked along the road , same thing I do driving to the farm . Im always saying things to myself like , “ that guy gets in early, nobody hunts this spot anymore , way less hunters around etc. “
-
Amen . Killed my first buck with a bow in the ‘80s, couldn’t draw back my bow anymore starting a few years ago , so I bought a crossbow . Then I was fortunate enough to find a used Elite that I could draw again , so that gave me the whole season again , I plan on seeing if I can still draw it today . A few years ago my Military Press was 145#, yesterday my shoulder work out was done with rubber bands ... those “ hurt shoulders “ aren’t for sissy’s . Getting the medical release in NYS is next to impossible, “ oh you are capable of using a breathing tube? “ no crossbow for you . A year or two ago I helped out the Crossbow group signing up members at an outdoor show . The average age of guys I talked to / signed up were all well past the age to collect SS , and all grateful to either stay in the game or get back into it . Its sad to simply cast aside our most experienced and dedicated hunters ,because they , well they aged , and or wore out their body working hard through their life .
