Hey Law, how many times do you think that exact scenario has happened before they changed their name to Dick's... Haha, just kidding.

Best Trail Camera Value
Taylormike replied to wildcat junkie's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
Moultrie's are by far my favorite. I'm not saying they're the best just very good, especially when considering Value. I plan on buying a few more this off season. Hardly any bells and whistles and a decent pic. I use them as a tool not for professional photography. In that case I'd bring a 1500.00 camera with me. It all depends what you want out of them. -
I think the tree stand has so many more advantages its the only way I hunt. However maybe some hunters are looking for a little more challenge than the tree stand offers. Also, maybe there is a spot where a tree stand is not conducive. Tree stands are difficult to put up and a little more dangerous to hunt out of. They also get quite expensive oppose to ground blinds which you can easily make from the land. Tree stands get my vote every single time... Oh YEA... the Bears can't get to you as easily...

Uggs slippers, some electronic fitbit watch and few candles. You gents that wives are hunters, you realize you just spoiled the surprises.... Or for the wives that are just plain NOSEY

Mike, Yep Yep Yep and......... Yep. I am bow hunter and would love that!

Well, my plans have changed. I was planning on picking up a 8N, single bottom plow and disc. I was going to put in my first food plot about 1/2 acre but now an opportunity has come up and am trying to acquire 25 additional acres. I will be adding two more Moultrie game cameras. I know one thing I won't be doing differently. Hunting the first two weeks of November. It will be my Brother and I fourths straight year we've hunted the first 2 weeks in November.

Buck, keep posting. I appreciate it and so do many others. Ignoring the situation doesn't solve a thing. If anything you can at least vent...

This is a great question and all the above are great answers... Let's see, first and foremost " I don't know". I can't explain why I love it so much... Obviously, the time I spend with my Brother and Dad is incredible, time away from the everyday struggle and craze of life, time to truly be alone and think through life's questions. Am I being a good Father, Son, Brother, Husband and so forth? Also, I do enjoy the meat, the competiveness, the work involved. To quote Tom Hanks, "It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everyone would do it." Finally, I really believe it's built in us humans to be successful, especially Males. For lack of better words, I think it's testosterone and are determination to "provide", even though today it isn't necessary for most of us. I would sincerely and genuinely love for the ladies to respond to this question.... Not to sound cliché or too deep but it has made me a better person. I've learned how to be more patient, I've learned there are times to be soft and gentle but that there are also times when severe and harsh actions will be necessary. It illustrates true meaning of life and how to respect it. Most anti-hunters would never understand this and come to think of it, that's probably why I don't personally know any.

Great Job! A few things. How tough are these animals - wow!!! The instinct to survive is incredible. Also, you don't have to justify at all. As hunters we head into the woods not knowing what to expect. Everyday is different from the next and that's what I love so much! Congrats!!!

GF Deputy great persistence and great decision. I, as some others have mentioned would have shot her regardless. Ultimately, you are the one that has to live with your decision. As Culvercreek asked, "did she seem otherwise healthy". I actually hope you reply no because there is something very ill feeling about a coyote tracking and attacking a healthy full grown whitetail. I would guess something was awry...

Hard to say if not impossible...How about injury from gun season?

Wolc, Pa has some Beautiful Looking Camp right there!!! My dream, my goal have a beautiful cabin on my acreage for friends and family to enjoy over the next 30 years!!!

Plus,my brother and I hunt two straight weeks with bow. We are literally 150 yards apart. I saw 25 deer with 2 shooters, he saw 5 and all yearling. They move a little and sightings change drastically. It's just the way it goes.
-
Really cool. You have more pics of buck in the past two weeks then I have in 3 years! Way to go!!! Go get one next year.
-
Wildcat, Yep I agree just seems frustrating. When you think you have them patterned or figured out you can go and throw it out the window. The most intriguing animal... Where do you hunt?
-
Great view! You know what's peculiar... The beginning of every bow season, especially rut I'm watching weather channel and local news. I'm tracking fronts and wind and etc. I say "YES", cold front and snow headed my way. Time to get in woods. Although I do prefer these conditions to hunt, it is becoming less significant. I don't know. I see a lot of deer early season when temps are warmer and it's a clear day. I actually remember being at work and saying to another hunter, we might as well have comfortable weather to hunt in if we're not going to see much in the miserable weather. Any thoughts?

Do coyote and crow contests tarnish hunters' image?
Taylormike replied to Curmudgeon's topic in General Hunting
This fabulous past time is unfortunately declining tremendously... I believe archery hunters have increased though. I'm sure this percentage is because gun hunters have now taken archery up. Either way, with more and more land being posted, with the school and county taxes absolutely devouring our wallets its pretty easy to see why hunting has declined. Not to mention, the baby boomers are approaching their 60's and 70's and feeling the effects of age. Many have begun putting any extra money towards retirement and the insane cost of pharmaceutacal meds. The young generation isn't exposed to the sport as even I was 20 years ago. With broken families, both Mom and Dad working, pressure of education we begin to lose this generation too. I haven't even mentioned the world of electronics which is just astonishing. I mean come on, I don't even see any snowmen after a fresh snowstorm. Kids just don't go outside anymore. Very sad! When my son is ready I will do everything in my power to get him into the sport! -
Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Taylormike replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
Buckmaster, tell you what. We will do a comparison since you are comparing apples and oranges... Fast Eddie is spot on. I will drive 1 mph over the speed limit right pass any law enforcement you can think of, you call DEC officer to your woods and take a shot 30 min after dark. Guess where I will be, heading right on down the road, you however will be begging for mercy while you hand over your firearm. Bottom line, it boils down to INTEGRITY, to quote C.S Lewis "doing the right thing even if no one is watching." -
Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Taylormike replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
No, it does not make you a hypocrite. Driving isn't a constant. Speed constantly fluctuates when traveling. For instance, if someone is driving too slow and you need to pass them, it would require accelerating quickly enough to pass them probably moving North of the speed limit a little bit. This is not against the law, that is also why we have striped yellow lines - a legal area to pass. It's common sense you'll have to speed up a little bit to pass the slower moving object. On the other hand, if a cell phone says 5:00 it's 5:00. Notice I said cell phone, every phone is constant due to satellite positioning. The DEC has to establish a time or it would chaos. Would I call or turn in a neighbor if I hear a shot a few minutes after legal shooting, of course not, but does that make it LEGAL, of course not!!! -
Wooly Congrats!!! Talk about bad luck...not for you but the deer. If the poor guy lost that a 100 yards before he got to you he might have lived another season... As you stated, there's a first for everything!!!

Finally got the green light!!
Taylormike replied to Zag's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Yes, really cool! Sometimes preseason prep is more fun then hunting. Spend a lot of productive time with friends and family, accomplish chores and basically enjoy the property. Hunting can get lonely, it's so great we have company when down there. Even better it's my Brother and Dad, I couldn't imagine not having them... hopefully that isn't for a very long time.... -
I totally understand! I guess I can associate. I've lost a few deer to bad shots and it makes you want to vomit!

Finally got the green light!!
Taylormike replied to Zag's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
ZAG, Bottom line = I'm very very envious!!! I have been attempting to convince my brother for 2 or 3 years to no avail. Your land will hold the deer so much more! Great decision! -
Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Taylormike replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
This post does not make sense... I understand what you are trying to say but comparing it speed limits and speeding is not a good comparison. First of all, In my neck of the woods, my property is very dense with very low hunting pressure. I could easily discharge a firearm or bow from my tree stand and not only would I not hurt anyone I doubt if anyone would even hear it. I think the law is to protect the game. Most game moves at night, especially the whitetail. Humans however are usually back in the cabin or house getting some grub and watching some football. Point I'm making is safety should always be considered number 1. But follow the law for the purpose of preserving the animal too.
