My PA buck was loaded with ticks...........

Photobucket is giving me a hard time lately when I try to upload from my phone. This picture just came up on my computer after 30 minutes of MIA...... I took this picture in the Locusts right after I found him. The sunlight was really bright and the ground still frosty at the time.

I've been hunting Pennsylvania since 1981 IIRC and have killed my share of bucks but it was 2012 when I killed my most recent one....until this past Monday. It was a pretty fair poke; 225-240 yards. I saw three bucks including the one I killed along with 5 doe by 8:50am. The first buck that came my way came walking down this lane straight in front of me at about 250 yards. I glassed him first with the gun but figured he may not be legal as they need at least three points to a side. With the binos I still couldn't be sure, then he turned to his right and I'm pretty sure I saw 3 points on the right side but before I could make another move he stepped off the trail and into the Locust, gone forever. 10 minutes later another buck comes down the same lane but walking a little faster. I picked up the gun and make a quick determination that this one was indeed legal......as I waited for him to stop, I noticed in my field of view another buck trotting down the lane: MUCH bigger than my target buck. Before I could make any move to get on the stud, he jumped to his right and headed off the lane. I quickly locked onto the chest of my buck and popped the cork. He kicked his hind legs (you see, if you shoot a mild mannered tack driver like my .243 you can watch the reaction of the deer at your shot) and jumped into the Locust trees. It took my a few minutes to get organized and get up to the area he was standing when I shot. It took a few minutes but I located the buck about 50 yards or so into the mess. A guy could easily loose one in there....... The shot was perfect & right on the money, it makes me so happy when things go well. Here ya' go............. And a big "Thank You" to member "buckstopshere" for the prodding to get a ramp/winch setup in place. It DOES work!

It'll be the Garand for the trifecta. Side note.......On Sunday I had the chance to handle the above mentioned Springfield and she's a beauty. The RIGHT guy has that gun; a guy that use it AND enjoy it. Well done Dan.

Amish Machine Gun............. Great score if that's what you're pining for. Not my cup O tea but I understand 110%!! I had a left hand (just the stock and safety) 760 BDL in .308 back in the early 80's, twas a lovely gun I wish I still had just out of nostalgia. Let us know how she shoots.

Who is hunting Thanksgiving morning?
Lawdwaz replied to Deerstalker's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Dan.....My friend Clark didn't hunt this morning either, as far as he can remember this is the first Thanksgiving morning in 58 years he has missed. I pleaded with him to go out and hunt tonight. I hunted this morning in East Aurora, the first time I've hunted that spot at all this fall. Saw what I think (and hope) were a doe & fawn. They were sky-lined so it was a no-shoot situation. That's just fine, I had a pile of things to straighten up in the garage as it's just been a catch all for tons of stuff this past month+ of archery season and work. I toiled away for better than two hours but now I'm in good shape. I even cut my "buckstopshere" ramp and have the pulley system rigged for the next deer that is unlucky enough to cross my path. Back to the subject of this thread, I THINK this is the first Thanksgiving I've hunted in 15 years or so because we have hosted the shindig since about 2001 or so. Today we're going to dad's place......happily! I never killed many buck or doe on Thanksgiving but two buck do come to mind. (also happily!) -

Wow, here in Amherst/Clarence area we got basically zip. Since I don't hunt in my backyard I'm thrilled! I might hunt locally over the next few days but I'm not sure. Some of you blokes got blasted, lucky you. We've certainly had our share over the years, it's nice to spread the love......... ON a VERY sad side note, my bosses BIL died Sunday afternoon while shoveling snow from his driveway in Syracuse. 67 years old and seemed to be in good health. RIP Jim.....

I think I'm gonna heave. I killed a doe on November 11.......I didn't butcher it at home though. I did bring home the bones and head for disposal in my garbage tote, the hide was left at a friends house as he sells them. About 8-9 days ago we noticed something on our labs forehead. We (I did) thought it was just a growth of some sort that an old dog might get. It grew pretty quick though and I was then thinking it was a skin tag as I have a few on me too. With hunting season here and work crazy busy it was put on the back burner, until a few minutes ago. The dog was rolling on the carpet like she does often then my wife yells at me "hey, did you cut that thing off the doge head?" I said no and of course she didn't believe me.......... The dog comes running out because she's yelling and I'll be dipped, it's gone!! We looked around on the carpet where she was rolling and I found it! My wife grabbed it with a tissue and put it in a pill bottle but first looked it over closely. Damned if she didn't see legs and they weren't the ZZTop type. I Googled it and this is just what I saw.......... http://bugguide.net/node/view/44406/bgpage We rubbed the spot with rubbing alcohol and I had a shot of Crown to celebrate the money I saved.

I'd chuck it................ AND DON'T SOAK IN WATER ANYMORE.

Kind of related to this but not really; Ziploc makes a great ziploc that's 2.5 gallons. They'll hold quite a bit of boned out Rudolph......
-
I've bought from them in the past so couldn't get the free shipping. Surprisingly they only charged me about $8 to ship them. (I've been boned much worse from sellers) Would this be pork, beef, chicken, turkey or VENISON gravy?

That's a bit over the top.....seal skin? That'd be awesome!

They DID honor the sale price. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow......................... What prompted this was the wind and snow that blew up my pant legs yesterday. I looked down and said WTH man, where are your gaiters? They can make a huge difference in staying warn not just when walking but when on stand too.

Not surprised who answered this question; someone who's BTDT. All three of those have been on my radar.......I was one click away from buying the KUIU last night but was concerned about the fit over heavy wool pants and pac boots. That question was answered in a PM on the 'Fire from SKane. Last night they had a 30% off sale, hopefully they'll honor that or do better. The OR Crocs are the standby for many I know but like you said, a bit on the noisy side. Thanks Dan.......

My old Cabela's gaiters are junk, what are you guys/gals using?
