It's nice to see the passion here. I think we should all go out and buy a new gun to celebrate the joy.

Don't forget to wear your PFD while underway!

Luck to you! I'm heading to Honeoye.

Do you pull bird out of strut to tip him over?
Lawdwaz replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Turkey Hunting
110% agreement here...........when the time seems right, TT. (Tripped Trigger) If that Tom is in range, I'm ready and the shot is clear, I'll shoot. As I'm thinking about it, I'd guess that most birds aren't in strut when I shoot. -
I like the gun Larry.........no flies on a Glock 19. One of the best...........................

Seeing as this is their first year, hopefully it is a success. They just started advertising it a week ago, maybe a bit late? And of course that admission charge could keep the head count down. If it was a rainy/snowy/locust filled weekend I'd probably head down but the weather will keep me away.

Not many guys want to use the freeze dried head. In my opinion, it is the only way to go!Well done.

I have one but don't recall what make. Lowrance I think.........

Reminds me of song from the J Giels Band......................Freeze Frame! Man you stopped that little bugger COLD!! On Monday we started a big window job at a ladies house in East Amherst. She said she had some darned bird pecking at her front doors. They had polished brass toe kicks on each door. The guys taped some cardboard to the painted doors to ward off the little pecker head. Nobody saw the bird in action but NOW we know who done it.

My uncle released birds a few years. We shot a fair amount but of course the predators killed the rest, usually. Funny thing though, for what seemed like 4-5 years, each spring a cock bird would show up. He'd cackle all spring, strutting in the wide open plowed fields, cut corn fields and gravel driveway. We couldn't believe a hawk, owl or coyote didn't snatch him up while lying in wait. He looked like a damn peacock out there, broad daylight strutting his stuff. A few times we say a hen or two but never saw any chicks. Good luck to you & yours!

Santa Claus in a Brown truck.................oh that's such joy!

I'm going to say no but I couldn't be positive, 99% sure he didn't. G&R has been closed for how many years now, close to 20 I'd guess?? Were you a customer there? I never spent too much money there but sure enjoyed it. My good friend worked there for a spell back in the 60's and 70's IIRC. As you might remember, the owner (Ray Kegler) enjoyed and sold art. I think he even did custom framing too. Well, my friend Tom had a couple art shows at the store back in the late 80's early 90's. Good times! I still have a custom knife from G&R. It is a Heritage Knife.........Sid Bell had something to do with it I believe. Cool store from what I remember.

I won't quote that as the mod police could dogging you Dan after your recent outburst. You're on thin ice partner..................

Don't sweat it; where there's hens, there will be a Tom at some point. If you locate a Tom now, who knows where he'll be in 2+ weeks? Yea, riding around and glassing CAN'T hurt but if you have an area where birds have been spotted in the past, it's always worth a hunt. You NEVER know if and when a gobbler will show up.

Lots of great info to be had there Al. I've used that one and JBM Ballistics Calculator also, numerous times. Information overload sometimes! http://www.jbmballistics.com/ballistics/calculators/calculators.shtml

At one point it was........

Seems like you just did resort to name calling.

My buddy would hydro axe my butt if if I cut brush with rose pruners, hence the smiley. It would be a ball with a fly rod, absolutely.

That's too bad..........can you finish it without their help?

OK........here's the deal: I shot the gun last Tuesday; two shots at 40 yards; 30" circles; Genny can wired to center; bead on center of can; shots from bench rest. 1 with full choke and one with modified choke. The load is Hevi-Shot 13 Magnum Blended 3.5" 12ga Outcome: Pattern is a bit low for my liking with both chokes.....The full choke is definitely tighter. The black square is 10"x10" with center of target of target 3.5" down and 5" left/right of edge. 102 pellets in the 10" square and 287 OUTSIDE of the 10" square for a TOTAL of 389 in the 30" circle. I used to know the number of copper plated lead for #4, 5 and 6 shot per ounce was 135, 170 and 225 so 2 ounces or 2 1/4 ounces is pretty easy to figure out but I'm not sure how these blended loads are figured. Either way, I think I got a fair amount or the full choke load in the 30" circle, just a little low. Damn breast are going to be Swiss Cheese......................... Modified Choke with Genny Beer centered for bead hold. Full Choke sans the beer can, set against window for better viewing. Black Sharpie used to count pellets............

What gun is it and who was your gunsmith?

Added some more light to my Side by Side

Really? You HAD to go there............................. -
Yes but from shore there are only a few spots that don't have a ton of brush RIGHT behind you so casting there could be a chore. A boat or some spey casting from land would be the ticket. (that or a couple hours with a hydro axe to open things up)
