Ahhhhhh, if you don't let your edge get too far away from you, the Spyderco Sharpmaker does a dandy job. I keep mine setting in the corner of one of my workbenches, all set to go. After a gutting/skinning/boning/filleting session I just run the blade over the stones (angles set already and difficult FU) and within a dozen strokes I'm back in the game. Other than eye balling, (and that's fine) how do you "shape your edge"?? I can see the desire of using different stones when you've "lost" the edge.

I've only killed one that I know (according to the DEC and my best estimations) of that was 5.5 YO. I THINK I've killed one that might have been 4.5 but I'm probably wrong on that anyway........As far as 3.5 YO, I've killed a fair amount of them. The 5.5 YO I killed had a very plane Jane 8pt rack but was pretty heavy for the Naples area, around 172lbs or so IIRC. He sure didn't look any different when he was dead on the ground to me. Lots of guys on here have killed plenty more and bigger bucks than me so I'm curious what you've killed that have been verified by the DEC or an outside source as 5.5 YO or older. Thanks!

Ladder in the woods means nothing to a deer after a few days.

My Leica works in the dark. And rain.....and snow if it isn't a blizzard.

Before the Sharpie was invented, we would use a candle to soot up our Zwickey broadheads edges to find the right sharpening angle and we'd soot up bullets in dummy cases for finding OAL for hand loads. Love me some Sharpie!!

Ohhhh that sucks. I cringe when someone wants to "borrow" a knife............ What knife did the kids bugger up?

Spyderco Sharpmaker. I just pulled a couple knives across it tonight as a matter of fact, hoping to knock the edge off one of them tomorrow morning.

Where do these go when you're in a hurry or a deer shows up on your doorstep unnoticed and you need to restrict movement? They just aren't practical..................

Drive a tractor up to them or wait until they come to you.

I ran over a big coon on the way to my stand yesterday, I thought for sure he was pancaked. When I came out a few hours later he was gone. Tough dude!

"Perfect for stand hunting" How have I managed for all these years without them? Oh yea, I have pockets, light insulated gloves and handwarmers. You aren't getting a quick shot off with those monsters!

I'll try and get a better picture tomorrow.

Ohhh, I had a witty but dirty response all typed out and then I hit the "backspace" key. Damnitall it was funny........

The other night I loaded up 5 Lapua .308 cases (necked down for the 7mm-08 rifle) with the above mentioned 120gr NBT bullets. I used my 44.0 grain load of RL15. Since it has been a couple years, I figured I'd shoot a quick 3 shot group and brought the gun with me today. I didn't shoot the other two loaded cases, didn't need too. I think 44.0 is going to be the medicine.......................
