In the name of turkey conservation I will forgo my fall 2015 turkey hunt and burn my issued tags. (I shouldn't mention it here but I've only killed one fall bird ever in NYS) This ruling by the DEC is a good move. Hopefully it helps the population enough to make a difference.

Strangely I NEVER watched those two shows, I couldn't stand them.

Nice work growie. With a 23 year old and a 17 year old my worries are endless.................hopefully someday all will fall into place.

Sorry man, a friend came in unexpectedly today and just left. Something about nice weather, Kentucky Gregs BBQ and a good cigar that has me waylaid a bit. I'll get to it ASAP!

Some day they'll do a study (yea, another study) and find that it stunts your growth.

Not a 1911, how come? I've only had one .45 and it was a S&W 1911 lightweight something or other. I only had it for a few years to scratch the itch. These days I'm mostly a 9mm fan but sure could be persuaded into grabbing a .40 Glock or similar. MY 9mm is a S&W Shield and I have been very happy with it. Good luck with the search, I'm sure you'll get plenty of good advice here...........

Dear Elmer, The summer is flying by, sadly. It is already the 20th of July and before you know it...............BAM, it's Labor Day! I started a new job a few months back and the learning curve is extreme. Lots of great days and then others not so great. I don't miss the days of small business ownership, at all. Planted some new grass that looks like a__. A few different spruce up projects are in the works and some others are done. Money goes fast............... Youngest graduated from high school and is now preparing for college in late August, son is hard at work locally. The wife's 86 year old father is a daily concern. He lives on his own still and is in pretty fair shape but still demands attention. Zero shooting and that sucks. Fished a bit but need to get out more. Bow needs action and I can shoot at work so that's a big plus. The wife and I go out a bit with old high school friends of mine, about 3-6 couples that have been friends for 40 years plus. Yesterday was a cool event, I got to cross one thing off my bucket list, I'll post pics tomorrow. Can you feel the suspense? Take care, Larry

I know it'll say a lot about me but I think Family Guy is a hoot. America's Funnies Home Videos crack me right the heck up too. There it is, all out in the open. Lump me in with .......rob. I can take it..............................

LOL What about shot #? A few have been mentioned, but what are everyone's though on that? Me personally, I doubt I would go smaller then #7's, or larger then #4's. I forget, what were you hunting primarily? I know it'll ruffle some feathers (LOL) but there ain't much you can't kill with a high brass 7 1/2 shot but I know others will squeak so I'll say turkey 4,5 and 6. Pheasant 4, 5 and 6. Crow anything left over. Bunny and squirrel 6 and 7 1/2.

Congrats to you .......rob. Only married 23 years but been together for 26 with my significant other.

SAY WHAT? LOL............

Low brass are usually cheaper, less powerful loads that are used for small game like squirrel, rabbit, dove etc. BUT, the biggest use (I'd bet) is for claybird shooting of all types and most guys don't want to spend a ton of money and certainly don't need the heavy load of powder or shot that comes with most high brass loads.

Maybe these cameras need a break in like .........Robs new semi auto???

I ordered a Browning Trail Camera last week and it came in yesterday, the Dark Ops HD model. Simple enough to set up and get working but I have a slight problem; I set it for 10 second video with a one minute reset but the videos were 30-60 seconds and chewed about 70% of the battery life overnight and it didn't take more than 20 videos. Hmmm............ After viewing the 20 clips of some odd late night family life (G rated for the most part ) I reset all the settings and turned it on for some quick breakfast/chaos clips. It seems to be working in 10 second increments now. Time will tell on that issue........ One other little thing, when I went to turn it off this morning it appeared to stay ON. I'm not sure if that is something common on this type of camera, like a slow shut down or something?? I still have faith though............

Gibertville rod and gun shoot today 7/19/15

Luck to you SOB. Drink plenty of fluids! -
When it comes to semi auto rifles I have almost no experience. My one and only story involves a caribou archery hunt that ended with two dead bulls on the very last day of a unreal series of FUBAR days in Quebec back in 1988. Actually it was t supposed to be the last day but the base camp called our outpost camp on the soup can/string communications setup and told us we were coming out a full day early due to a nasty storm that was approaching. At noon that day the guide pulled his Remington 740 30-06 from his tent and said"you take this?" I said yup, then we smoked peace pipe and went hunting. From the canoe we spotted a small herd of bulls swimming the river. He motored up a bit downstream of where he expected them to hit the beach. I jumped out of the freighter canoe and did my best sneaking to get in a good spot. They hit shore and I killed two. Pretty lousy end to an even worse hunt. Oh yea, open sight on that gun too. The local injuns are probably still talking about 'Ol Deadeye I'd guess...........

If you get in a jam with that bear and I have to come down to sort things out I'm bringing my spinning rod and some of your jigs. One way or the other I'm not going home empty handed.............

Cool deal Dan. Headed onto Sis's place? I don't have any NYS bear encounter stories to add but in PA I had very close deals three years in a row while hunting spring gobblers in '93, '94 and '95. First year I watched a sow and 5 (yes five) cubs plod across a field while I sat in my truck. They came as close as 75 yards or so I'd guess. 2nd year it was a sow and a few (?) cubs I bumped into in the pitch dark around 4:30am as I headed to the top of the mountain for a gobbler I roosted the night before. The cubs climbed a red pine within 30 yards of me while the sow took off for less stinky cover. (the stink came from my shorts at that point) The cubs bawled like a crazy for quite a while. I know this because at that point no gobbler was worth hanging around for on that ridge. I bailed out and went back down the mountain and up the other side of the narrow valley. I could hear the bawling for a long time. Then I killed a jake and hit the road......... The third time was a sow and two cubs that crossed a trail ahead of me on a very damp morning within 40-50 yards. They never saw me which is just as well....... Note that all three encounters were in the same small valley maybe 1/2 mile apart. Cool beans.... There is a possibility that time has clouded some of the finer details of the accounts above and a little Brian Williams action could be at play but IIRC, it's pretty damn accurate.

Not big I wouldn't think.
