  1. You get drawn, I'll pay for the guide. <grin> I might have missed the first year (I have the Pygmy disease CRS) but since then I've been invested in each years lottery. Do yourself a favor and head down that way next September and check out the elk, rutting & bugling. You & your wife will have a good time.
  2. I could share some good stories about lucking into guns! Remember Dan, half of what the gun shop would offer is a good place to start! A couple few years ago I saw two guys pushing two shopping carts full of guns inside of Ga der Mt. I stopped them and said WTH? Seems a buddy croaked and they were helping out his widow. Hell at that point I almost croaked. I'm sure they got a major league hosing on that deal...... If they were still outside I would have asked to take a look.
  3. Sounds like they are already dead.......<grin>
  4. Sometimes this site is like lightning, like right now. Other times it just seams to freeze right up??
  5. Who didn't get one, besides me. I got my first & only one last year. Seems I'm about the only one in my extended family that doesn't get one. How 'bouts you?
  6. I've been noticing it also. Good thing I'm not busy..............
  7. I guess that does make sense! I have a question, cynthiafu: tell me about your handle (screen name) is cynthia an ex?
  8. Sometimes those kind of folks will change their mind but I wouldn't count on it. It would be a sweet spot to get a crack at though!
  9. I'm not much of a college football fan but damn, those boys are good! Rolllllllll TIDE! A couple of my best buds graduated from the University of Alabama in 1984 so I've always pulled for the Tide. Fun game to watch as long as you weren't rooting for the Fighting Irish. Sweet Home Alabama!
  10. Nice pics Red! I was cruising down by Doug's Dive a week ago (New Years Day actually) after doing a job for the NFTA and saw a pile of them. Nobody was around and the deer were every where.
  11. Well duhhhh...<grin> My 257 Roberts, 243 Win, 25-06, 260 Rem (pistol), 7mm-08 are all a bit redundant. Seems like I need a 308 Win. or even (gulp).......a 250 Savage tossed into the mix? Thank goodness for the massive performance difference in my 300 WSM or I'd REALLY be in a performance overlap quandary. I love your thinking Dinsdale. <grin>
  12. I made the pulled venison yesterday. I used some backstrap (YIKES) from last year. Thawed it overnight and trimmed it up. Placed 4 pieces (2/3 of the backstrap from one deer), rubbed with a mix I had on hand and a HUGE onion into the crock pot. Then put enough water in to come half way up the meat. Cranked it up to high and started drinking heavily. (I'M ONLY KIDDING!) 8.5 hours later I pulled it out, dumped the juice, and shredded the meat. Put it back into the crock pot with some bbq sauce for another 30 minutes. I use the KC Masterpiece brand and think it is great. Got some good rolls from Wegmans and enjoyed the hell out of it. Really a great recipe. It was great last night and AMAZING today for lunch!! Thanks Deerthug!! PS......The entire family enjoyed it.
  13. I try an always store mine uncocked but I would almost guarantee you'll never find a problem with guns not stored that way. I know of at least 60-70 guns in one guys home that have never been stored uncocked. Many are 40-75 years old. VERY few people have ever even heard of this. Those guys probably won't post on this thread........(kind of like sunrise/sunset shooting hours)
  14. There you go! The neat thing also a out the game cams is it keeps you involved more and the anticipation when popping the cards into the computer to review them is pretty cool! You never know what or who might be in the area........
  15. LOL. You guys are all whacked!! (in a good way)
  16. I should point out something, I don't target any specific deer, name them or anything like that. I just love to hunt them. I've only been lucky enough to have them walk by a camera then cruise by me at a later date. Two other bucks I have killed I have pics of. The big 10pt 140" stud I killed with the ML in 2010 and an archery buck from a few years ago. I can't find the camera pics from either one right now. Sorry about the side track growalot.
  17. I didn't mean to imply eddie's way was wrong, just how I don't sweat it TOO much!
  18. I have a couple rifles that need to be emptied by cycling each loaded round through the action. I see no problem with safety with these guns. Kind of like my semi auto shotguns, each loaded shell has to go through the action. I'd not be sweating that one..........
  19. Yup. One thing I'll add that flies in the face of EVERY reloader going....I don't "sweat" the handling of primers too much. If I need to, I just flip them, put them back in the holder etc. I've never had a misfire that I didn't know exactly what happened. Granted, you can't be dumb about it. Don't be eating fries, wings etc. I don't do it very often but if I need to, I do. WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES!
  20. 217lb from above........(he was video'd close to where the other one above was, maybe 150 yards away and killed a little further than a half mile away)
  21. Here is a video of the buck I shot with the bow in 2011 that although he is only a decent 8pt, he weighed an astonishing 217lbs. He was a giant!
  22. I didn't here that. Great..... I still can't watch it as I'm a DISH subscriber.
  23. I killed him about a half mile away from where I got the video.
