  1. The reason I asked is because I feel your beliefs are fine and you're entitled to them, but not too many guys would share them at camp. I'd get a lot of funny looks and ball busting. They might start asking why I forgot to bring my salad and gluten free beer to camp with me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Can we vote to limit vjp's new threads per day? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. We're all different but I have friends on the island with commutes like that. I can't understand it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. If I'm desperate I do. Otherwise I don't. No real reason, just personal preference. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Your rest is good. Personally I don't use a stabilizer, but they're fine. I have some monkey tails and other things that I'm not sure really matter but the tails vs a string stop were cheap. Get it looked at and tuned by a pro and you're good. Practice is better than any and all accessories combined. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Curmudgeon, generally I appreciate your posts, but your pro yote liberalness is interesting. I mean no disrespect by this; but are you a solo hunter or do you also hunt with buddies/camp? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Try bibs and a jacket. A lot more versatile than a suit anyhow. Easier to fit with a belt too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. I have a den and garage. Wouldn't want them in the bedroom honestly. I think you're just pushing it at that point.
  9. Sorry to hear you're having a bad morning. I wouldn't call $45 a heavy investment. I too believe there are pros and cons. I usually just use them after a short session or hunting. Not for long range sessions. Everyone has a right to opinion, you just seem to hold some higher than normal animosity, and I was curious to why. Btw, I enjoy any gun and amount of ammo and mag capacity with my GD happy meal.
  10. Are you really picking out a word that is used by the state? They're reported as harvest numbers. Good lord. I'm not against gun hunting. I just don't see why more bow hunters is the end of the world.
  11. Why are you so against them? You clearly stated your opinion but keep going and I'm not sure why. Plenty members here have had great results. Google any product and you're going to find some negative reviews. Doesn't mean it's bad.
  12. Good stuff. Fwiw, I keep a spotlight for night tracking/recovery. Not saying anything about this case just that spotlights don't necessarily mean poaching. It'd be like saying they recovered a range finder and binoculars. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. In life people join and people leave hobbies all the time. I would question how truly passionate they were. Did they control scent and manage their habitat and numbers? Seems odd with that amount of land you'd wouldn't see doe. Hunting for me is a solo hobby. With any land that size I don't see why I would quit because of other hunters being crazy about racks. How does that even affect them? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. The issue is that they're not a super weapon and the learning curve is small relative to a compound. I have heard stories of the guy who picks one up and heads into the woods. I realize that happens with a compound too but chances are you end up with more clean misses. I don't "worry" about poor shots from 90% of guys who picked up a crossbow last year. I worry about the gun hunter who didn't put in the time to understand the weapon and the limitations of archery before heading into the woods. Archery, whether it compound, recurve or crossbow is a whole new ballgame in many ways. We should all be ambassadors for the sport and that's why I think some of us make it our business to discourage any form of unethical, reckless, illegal or dangerous hunting. The actions of our brothers do reflect how we all are viewed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Endless of hours of fun with nerf as a kid. They're just shooting each other via video games anyhow. Now they're getting exercise and practice. You guys crack me up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Why is it a shame? At the end of the day a harvest is a harvest, no? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. the flower couches are throwing off your whole room just busting your balls. cool mount and room!
  18. totally agree with everything you said. although the limited dmp's are why it's important to have zoned ARs. I also agree that towards the end of the year even with a full freezer the temptation to shoot something with horns will grow. Takes a dedicated hunter to pass up bucks. I'd argue though that a lot of us in heavily populated deer areas rarely get to late December without having a couple cracks at a doe. But yes, full disclosure I've never had a doe only year and I've shot yearlings in those years. This was back in early archery days for me and I wasn't holding myself to any standard. I guess I'd have to see how it played out now if the scenario you mentioned happened.
  19. ditto. some times i skip the range because i don't feel like cleaning. Mostly i shoot after work so by the time i get home dinners ready.
  20. i rinse it in hot water after and let it dry before putting it away. I don't think they have the caliber/bore stamped on them so save the package and store them in there.
  21. bought one to start for my pistol. Does a great job. I will say it doesn't do any better than a rod but it gets the job done and it's easy. I then bought 2 or 3 more for my other calibers. This time i bought the viper which has an oil section. I haven't used that part of it, but the cleaner is better for just a little more than the snake. I use the foam to soak for a minute then run it through twice followed by a light oil patch.
  22. i'm usually warm enough from the hike that a couple hours doesn't hurt. the bloods still flowing. Anything longer than 2 and the warmers are going on.
  23. 1st. It's always been about the horns haha. 2nd. I've read so many articles on age structure that I'm not sure anyone really knows the answer. I've read that trophy hunters take the dominant bucks so that leaves the 1.5's to breed and creates inferior genetics. I've read large doe populations leave more yearlings to bread as well. My own personal style is to hunt for horns and to fill the freezer. I don't think I've ever had a tough doe. Even the mature ones. I assume the only reason someone shoots a doe is for meat. Otherwise it seems that shooting a doe for anything other than meat is just "killing". I'd say the same about harvesting a buck as well honestly. My thoughts are that if the woods are filled with more 2.5 year old bucks there will be more competition but early on the yearlings and immature bucks (depending on area age class) give up and still taste delicious . I think we all agreed we're still going to eat that 5.5 year old anyhow. He might just be more hamburg and sausage. Those early October kills should still be tasty too.
  24. i have good mucks and some serious pack boots. the packs help a lot but it's hard to move and i dont like climbing in them. I usually buy a box of toe warmers that do great. At the end of the day you're not circulating so it doesn't matter the amount of insulation you have. It's a cheap and easy solution. I've toyed with the thermal battery warmers but couldn't justify the price. I have some oldschool heated socks that really dont work too well.
  25. I'd like to put the old buck meat debate to the rest but thought it interesting watching an episode of Meat Hunter that was dedicated to tough cuts of meat that he specifically mentioned and talked to this point. Young bucks are generally under a lot less pressure and hang with does, while the big bucks are sparing and fighting toughening the muscles and creating a "chewier" meat. Again, this is mostly applicable to front and hind quarters.
