  1. I've been driving for 15 years accident free... why do I need a drivers license? pay the money. It goes to a good cause and it's not going to put you in the poor house. Every state requires you to have one.
  2. the freedoms and censorship thing is hilarious. This is a privately owned forum. Not a government website. The owner has every right to do with it as he pleases. He could have purchased this domain and dedicated it to fishing, or gardening or basket weaving. He chose hunting and decided the rules, the moderators etc. If he's smart and is looking for more members, which equals more money he'll figure the political stuff out. There's a reason 90% of forums don't allow political and religious discussions. Figure a way to filter out the political stuff for the news feed and nobody gets hurt. Those who are interested are free to go in with their tin foil hats and post away. Look through Mr VJP's topics... not one has anything even to do with hunting. Why are you here?
  3. if that's the case why do we have half a dozen threads on Obama's approval rating, boarder control policy, secret Chinese camps and the list goes on? If the mods and owners really cared they'd get deleted and the posters would get the hint. I've seen it so many times on other forums that it's surprising sometimes here. All I ever see get moderated is the F word...
  4. disagree. I belong to many forums, and this place is tame when it comes to "name calling". Without debate there is no forum. that's what bring most of us back. This thread is case and point. Crossbows, ARs, baiting, etc. All have different viewpoints. Sure every once in a while someone says something a little over the line, but rarely if ever have I seen it go too far. New Yorkers are supposed to have thick skin. If we avoid keeping it to personal, than it should never be a problem.
  5. New members will lurk before joining. Chances are they came here through google looking to talk about hunting. When they see a lot of non-hunting stuff, they might leave and never come back. And we could be losing many valuable contributors. I joined a year or so ago and neither of you conspiracy theorists were as active as you are now. You may not loose a whole lot of current members, although like phade said, you may see a decrease in activity. But you're ignorant if you don't think it'll drive away new members. I've left several sites that have lost their way. Occasionally when I go back you see much lower new topics and less activity. Think what you want, but some enjoy talking about hunting and not that the moon landing was faked. Believe it or not, hunting is an escape for many. It's not that we don't care about politics and whatnot, but it's nice to get away from it.
  6. I agree on craigslist. No different than buying anything used and I'm not sure there's so much to a bow that you can inherit a headache. Plenty of good deals out there and any seller should let you fling some arrows
  7. Exactly! Keep it off the feed! It's not the self restraint... It's that it drives off new members. There are thousands of forums out there about all sorts of things. I belong to many hunting, car, motorcycle audio/video etc. I go to which ever I'm interested in. There a lot of political forums for those interested in it. I don't mind the safe act discussion but can we please get off the non-hunting, non-gun stuff? Most forums do a good job of filtering the political stuff that at least isn't even in the same interest of the forum.
  8. There's really just 2 knuckle heads that drive the political crap to death. Best to try to avoid it... Or as I've said, keep all their "news stories" in 1 thread.
  9. Muck. Nothing I've ever had has come close. Worth every extra penny. I have 3 pair. 1 for chores and 2 for different temp hunting.
  10. I'm no expert, but most things with a gas powered engine is easy to tell how much tlc has gone into it. Simple checks of the dip stick, air filter, etc can show good maintenance. Anyone can clean up an atv to sell it. But if you really look into the crevices you can see how well it was kept. I've bought a decent amount of used power equipment, and I know it's not always true or fair, but a look around a guys garage can help give you an idea too. Generally clean and organized or old nice cars etc will be a sign of a guy who takes care of his stuff. All that being said a guy who might just use his atv to haul deer is your best bet for quality but you will also pay for that.
  11. is it any different than guys complaining and posting links on the internet?
  12. video editor did a pretty poor job in moviemaker in my opinion. Could have been better.
  13. no expert but she does appear to be larger than normal. could be in store for a late, late drop.
  14. there's some decent resale in a lot of bows too. So buying a stripped down, or older bow will not be a waste if in 2 years you decide you want the shiny new Cadillac.
  15. A boy on his bike on his way to shoot ducks with his gun IN A CASE, is not the same as walking into a store with a loaded AR over your shoulder.
  16. I'm an avid bow hunter and still hunt with a Mathews Switchback that was released in 2005. I consistently kill nice deer and do not miss. I've upgraded it over the years by adding a dropaway, bought new arrows 2 years ago, new releases etc. But at the end of the day it's still a quiet, forgiving bow. My dad had an ancient compound for years and 2 years ago bought a new (creed I think?) . It's faster and nicer to shoot, but it's also louder. I don't think there's any deer him or I would not have harvested if we were using an older bow or only punched a tag on because our bow was using newer technology. i would like to buy a new bow in the next few years, but it's more because I'm a sucker for new and shiny, not because I need it. My switchback was used off ebay. i think the guy had it for 1 or 2 seasons. There's TONS of these lightly used bows out there. A nice new bow with all the accessories needed will easily ding you over a grand. A nice used one will keep you under, and you really need to be sure archery hunting is for you. Lot of guys go out and buy the biggest badest bow just to find out the sport is not for them. A good anaology is golf clubs. Don't spend a fortune on taylor made clubs until you know you're going to get your money out of them.
  17. I'll add to the suggestion of not buying based on a magazine. Buy what feels right and is within your price range. Compounds have not changed significantly in the last 10 years. There are tweaks here and there but an older used Mathews, Hoyt, PSE etc is where most beginners should start. Like a used car, get it checked out by a good shop. Good luck
  18. No, and they have never taken down hundreds posted by guys either... but this is a female cheerleader. America's sweetheart so we're not ok with that.
  19. No, I think it was just an attempt to get it to go viral and get attention. gunvault is a must. I have one on the bottom shelf of my nightstand. simple finger combo and your pistol is accessible, but it's always still protected from kids and thieves.
  20. seems facebook caved and removed her photos... under the basis of cruelty to animals/endangered species/poaching. None of which are true. so sad.
  21. lots of animals and even humans do. We just notice it more in deer because of how much we love hunting them
  22. the message of locking up your guns is one everyone should follow... not sure how this is an anti-gun campaign? Eddy Eagle has been preaching this forever.
