  1. any price difference? if they're cheaper then shockwaves I'd just as soon pick them up instead.
  2. i have a CVA optima. I use the pellets and shockwave polmer tipped. Triple se7even but I'm considering going loose as I hear better things about that then using 2 pellets, although I've heard you can buy larger pellets now too? idk, but I do know the shockwaves shoot much better than the powerbelts that came with the gun's starter kit
  3. i would have murdered them all with a big sh!t eating grin on my face.
  4. awesome. first i've heard of this though. are they a delicacy in some culture?
  5. you could always not use ladder stands? a nice hanging stand may require a little more work up front but generally they pay off better during the season. if you're only gun hunting i guess a ladder stand would do just fine though.
  6. i'm 10/9. My dad has reminded me countless times of how I ruined his bow season. First time in 15 years I didn't get a deer he says. lol.
  7. i have an old boyscout planted abandon christmas tree farm on my property. Coolest thing in the woods. All sorts of neat criters and great deer traffic. Some areas have had multiple pines fall letting in light and creating nice growth and I wouldn't recommend touching it at all. These areas seem to do great when left undisturbed. I would recommend you check all your runs near your stands. We have to hack up 2 or 3 fallen pines a year to keep the runs clear.
  8. wow that's some serious growth this early. I saw 3 in velvet and 2 were big bodies and only about 4" high so far. and we have good genetics.
  9. interesting. i thought it was illegal. good to know if I ever make the mistake. i almost pulled a trigger on a hen my second season. thought i saw a redish head and it was a jake. It's funny how easy i think it is to spot a button buck, but it's only from experience. To a novice turkey hunting, I think these mistakes happen.
  10. I missed early on too man. Happens and it sucks. I was thinking of getting one of those mad max blinds. they're a rest and cover and set up in seconds.
  11. I went out Sunday for the last hurrah hoping to land a big tom. Sat in the same spot where I'd have them roosting, or roosting nearby the previous 3 times. Not a single gobble for 2 hours. I get up and head west towards the field. about 100 yards from the field I see a bird. I sit down real quick and hear this hen going nuts clucking and yelping. I army crawl to get in a good spot. She doesn't see me. There is no better decoy or call then a real live hen. She continues north of me heading east. I'm just waiting for the males to appear. nothing. couldn't believe it. Tough morning to call. Very windy. I did have a cool experience though. I almost always see deer every morning, but this morning I had 3 bucks all with about 3 to 5" nubs on their head walk right by me. a 1 year old got about 10 yards in front of me. then started freaking out at my decoys. The two 2 year olds look like they'll be nice deer this fall. It's funny how even downwind of me without me taking any care of my scent that they just don't care in the spring. later in the fields I had a big mature doe walking right towards me and not until she was about 7 yards away did she see me. guns cleaned, cammo's washed. A good spring, but not great.
  12. put that free time to making stands and blinds then. Not to hard to make a homemade tree stand, and even easier to make a good blind. just my .02
  13. haven't we debated this before? because it has always seemed gray to me. I dont have the time right now to look up the reg; but I thought it mentioned something about a dwelling that houses equipment or may be accessed? idk... regardless it's still a dumb law and I'd like them to remove it.
  14. i realize this. One of my property's is a non symmetrical T. There's no chance for the deer to die in the 3 neighbors fenced in properties that the the top of the T is behind, but the stand is close enough to their garden sheds and backyards that I do not gun hunt this stand.
  15. private for me. i think it all depends. I hear good things about some state and bad about others. Same goes for private. I think generally though people do better on large private plots with both deer and turkey. Private land thats small and heavily pressured from within and neighboring properties is going to be worse than a big track of state land if you're willing to go deep into it.
  16. congrats man. Mine popped out 8/17 last year. Just enough to allow me to hunt, but young enough to limit my hunting. I'd give it all up for him in a heartbeat though. there's nothing better in life than being a dad. The wife and I were trying figure out conception and it's between a few days, one of them was thanksgiving night after I shot this freaky rack buck who was grunting like a pig after 3 doe. I like to think it was that night
  17. finally something that makes sense. 500' is a joke for archery.
  18. when you argue with me, but can't use the grammar of a 4th grader, then it instantly hurts your argument. And if you don't believe there aren't some morons out there taking wild shots at running deer that might hit something or ricochet into something than you haven't watched the news or read the annual DEC report involving hunting related shootings.
  19. gotcha. nothing beats a scope for gathering light i think it says in the manual. i try to use it sorta like a safety though and only turn it on when i hear them starting to gobble. keep an extra battery in the pack too.
  20. hey that's a new approach or game trail and you didn't lift a finger!
  21. my point is (and this is coming from a republican and Romney voter) that calling someone an idiot based on their political views is not the right view to take. Very intelligent people can have very misguided and misinformed opinions on how to tackle problems. It does not make them "stupid". Heck, have you seen the spelling on some of the signs the tea party use? My only point, is that instead of insulting, how about "I respect your view on the subject mr. president; however I believe you are misinformed and given A, B and C... a better policy may be X" I try to do the same online when we debate crossbows, ARs and what not. Doesn't always work, but if an outsider and fence sitter saw 2 people debating a subject and one was providing evidence and facts to support their side, while the other just yelled and name called; who do you think looks better and is more apt to sway the fence sitter their way?
  22. 3 packages to "give it a try"? lol!
  23. disagreeing with someones view points does not make you more intelligent than them. Some right wing conservative gun toting meth cook in Nebraska is more intelligent than a liberal with a Harvard law degree? The best thing you can do for our cause is to stop the fox news name calling tactics and instead you can debate intelligently with facts and taking the high road. If fox news could do this, they'd be more respected and eventually people would begin to see how silly and pathetic msnbc is. But instead they have to put on the talking heads that they know draw ratings because people like to hear about how their view is right and the others is wrong.
