Nope, thats not what I'm pissed about, you will never get it though so I won't waste my time explaining it to you for the 100th time. I am actually more pissed that they are doing away with the either sex tag in my one area. There are no doe permits there already so why bother hunting there when I don't care to hunt the sought after bucks that you guys love. We have other places that are much better for that. And you will never see me or my family post pics on any internet boards to brag, its just not why we hunt. I know that is something that is lost on a guy like you.

Are you seriously argueing that a fellows opinion isn't right, and talking about something from another site? Who gives a rat's patoo.
-
Now thats how a first buck story should go, congrats! Bet you learned a thing or two along the way too.
-
Not to worry, there aren't any doe permits in our area, unless you are in the Southern zone, 5R. I live in Schuylerville. Welcome.

I would like to thank the DEC in advance for driving my father (and others like him) out of hunting.

"So if you are hunting an area where they are at or below their population goal you will not be able to harvest a doe with your Bow or ML. Gonna have to burn some gas to go where you can or sit and watch the does walk by. sonce many of the low issue areas seem to be in the catskill regions and those are the ones with AR.....I would spend any money on new archery gear or new ML guys." Like in 4S where there are no doe permits and soon to be AR's, sorry to my farmer friend we help out, we are done hunting there soon.

Alot of what could be bad ideas in there, making decisions on social aspects on one topic and ignoring it other topics make no sense to me. They say Ar's are a social thing and go with it but also say that changing the gun season at all is a social issue and leave it alone? There will be doe permits for the Northern Zone though, I think they are needed in some areas so thats good.

My wife and I saw 9 total, two small bucks and the rest does and fawns. No shots for us but she did get to draw back on one of the bucks we had at 20. We hit some state land and then another spot which produced deer sightings for the whole crew of 4. Weather was fine for us, windy and warm. We were done by 1:00pm and I am heading back out tomorrow.

My odds are at 100%, nice hard wind and wet leaves to still hunt in.

Geno could you find a more shot up kill zone for a target, lol

My brother nailed a big 8 this morning down near Kingston in his company work van, I havent talked to him but he said it was nice. Damn guy couldnt wait for season and had to run one over to get ahead of me for the year! JK I bet he is bumming as will be any one that was scouting the buck.

Which Broadhead for low poundage draw weight?
Doewhacker replied to wuggzwest's topic in Bow Hunting
75 grain Muzzy 3 blades would do the trick, as long as you have the proper arrow picked out. -
Well with out being there and seeing what you saw there is no way to tell what type hit it was. There are far to many variables to even try to guess, but I will any way. It is very possible that you hit just plain old muscle like the hollow spot under the back or a front leg. These hits will produce good blood and might even have bubbles from all of the oxygen in the blood. Liver and gut will be nmistakeable from the foul odor and gritty texture, lung will be a brighter shade of red and you would see a spray spatter pattern, heart shots will give you a red carpet effect. Now for my questions, what direction was he facing when you shot, right to left or left to right? are you lefty or righty? Did you tune your broadheads out to 30 yards 100%? What was the smell of the arrow when you found it? How far did you track it approximately? If you have already answered any of these I appologize, I didnt read the whole thread. There will be a lesson for you in this if you find him or not, trust me, there is always a lesson. Pay attention to every detail of the track you can for refference on future track jobs. If you were closer I would absolutely be there for a track job with my dad and brother in tow, my old man can track a wounded deer like no one else I know and yes I am braggin and yes he can back it up.

Cheap Archery Target
Doewhacker replied to fasteddie's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I finally wore out my block target to the point of no return and I remembered this thread. I googled a bit too and found a twist for you guys, I used a cardboard box and stuffed it full of plastic bags and the insides of the block target and then taped it up real nice. It works great at stopping arrows and removal is a breeze, and with an endless supply of boxes at work when I wear this one out I will just re-pack it and add more plastic bags. I will never buy another block target again! -
Speed will not make a bit of difference for her. We are talking 15 yards, 45 feet, meaning if the arrow is moving at 200 fps its there in .255 of a second, now go out and shoot at 300 fps and it gets there in .150 of a second making a difference of .105 of a second. Here is what I recomend, stop trying to shoot deer over a NJ bait pile, they are obviously on alert from pressure and scent. Move to a new spot free of said pressure and she will be fine. My wife shoots a Parker Sidekick that is "slow" at 45 pounds and had zero problems killing a deer a couple of years ago. It ain't the bow.

Right out the front door. I'm NZ, next week I'll be heading south.

Are you positive your scale is 100% on? Even if its off by a hair those variations are something, we pay lots of money and get products that are off by a little. Weigh your arrows next, I know they range in weight over a dozen too. I have been reading about this stuff lately as I am going over a new arrow selection with a stiffer spine, that is another topic that shows variables sometimes. For a hobby that we agonize over getting every thing perfect, there sure are some issues getting products that meet some of our analretentaive needs. As you said, most likely it won't make a difference especially to the average shooter but guys like me have problems and obsess over such things..haha

I have a Suburban and a little car for all the miles I drive for work (500-600 a week atleast), with gas prices being high and having to drive to hunt sometimes a car is better. Not always though, like when there is more than just me and one other person going, then a bigger vehicle is better.
-
Elmo, just buy a 6X8 tarp, a deer will fit nicely in the trunk and if you are carefull there will not be a mess. Or if you are like me the next time you buy a car ask if the scotch guard stuff works on bloodstains and see what reaction you get...lol

Seen at least two, maybe three again tonight, wind was different tonight so they were farther away on a different trail. Also jumped one in the real thick stuff with in sight of the house on the way out. No hunting till at least Thursday now because of the wife's working nights.

"I primarily bow hunt it then kill my bucks when I go to the southern tier." Do you hunt it during the rut or are you in the SZ for that instead? I am willing to bet on the right day you will see one moving through checking doe's. And I certainly wouldn't worry about not seeing them on the cam's, maybe they walk on the other side of the tree and you get no picture instead.
