We are looking to sell our current house at some point in the future and one of the things we both agree on is finding a house with a little land and few neighbors. We found one that was perfect but it was to close to some of her relatives..lol Which is why we want to move now.

There you go, and honestly a few really good shoots at 20 and 30 are more valuable then a few so so ones from 50 any day of the week IMO. It builds confidence and helps strenghten form.

Man that sucks not being able to shot in your yard, I usually only get a few minutes to spare between kids and every thing else so I can relate and it makes me so happy to be able to shoot out back. Its a great stress reliever for me too.

Me too, I used to fixate on just Whitetail but now I think I would rather chase Muledeer and Antelope, or as my son calls em, Cantelope. He's silly like me.

To add to my last post, I think if the landowner part of the plan were marketed to Deer hunters it would help out both bird hunters and deer hunters, or guys like me who hunt every thing. It would effectively add habitat for birds and deer, CRP programs work well out west and we all see the results there.

The state gets 30,000 adult birds a year to release and the take is 100,000, so that means there are "wild" birds out there, just not so many on my side of the state..lol

Steve863 all I see is a little hill, that aint no mountain! lol Reminds me very much of our mountain, only I think we have a section that can beat that for steepness, I should take you there so you can tell the others how crazy we are for hunting there.

There are lots of closed trails and areas where the damage is real bad up in the high peaks, this is bad for every one from hunters to hikers and especially bad for the folks that depend on tourist for money. I thought I was the only one that used bee's wax. I was happy to find a little chunk a couple of weeks ago, to me it is the best wax.

Biggest I have seen? Who knows maybe a 160 and a few 140-150 class, I took hair off the 150 and 160 but I was a youngin and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn back then, now I can at least hit the barn. If we were talking weight I would say for sure I have seen a 200+ pound buck, the old man missed that one. My brother has killed a few nice ones, the biggest being just shy of 140".

This may sound crazy, turn off your cameras. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in how the hunting will be based solely on trail cameras. I don't own a single trail cam and yet I know there will be at least some decent bucks around in all of my spots. I suspect I am in the minority though as far as not having a camera.

I'll give you a hundred bucks for it. I am refraining from calling you a jerk for getting a sweet grinder for free.

Man that was a close one for your camera eh? I am going to try to remember to take a pic from my spot, it flooded again this year and I can usually find debri way up in the tree's which is something to see.

Like wdswtr said, my comments werent meant for you. One thing that might also conribute to the "less wild" birds is the use of different strains of Pheasant over time. There are many different strains of Pheasants used for hunting in different areas, Chinese and Manchurian are just two of the many different kinds and I am sure the state has varied over the years. Pheasants loose 70% of their yearly population to predation, thats a hell of a number to beat and with out lots of grain and habitat we aint gonna see a wild population in NY.

Wow some people just don't get it, , releasing Phseants is how they were introduced to this country to begin with. And Pheasants run ahead of you because that is what they like to do, ever seen a driven field hunt in South Dakota on t.v.? They dont just let the birds go and let hunters try to blast away at them either, DEC won't release them if the greedy guys are there waiting in the field. They release them through out the season depending on where you hunt and at different times of day. There is a whole section devoted to the program on the DEC web site that tells you where they release them but not when. The lack of Pheasants is primarily due to one thing, lack of habitat. They have Fox, coyote, owls and hawks acrossed the country and they also have real actual habitat for the birds. So if you have an issue with the Pheasant program does that mean you also dislike the Trout stocking program?
