as of Oct 26th (northern zone regular season opener) you could have legally shot two deer with a bow. one before then with your either sex bow/ml tag and then one with your regular season buck tag. if you're in the southern zone I don't see how you could legally have taken two bucks. now before this year some zones would give you a bonus DMP if you turned a doe into a check station. with that bonus DMP you could take a buck but they aren't allowing bucks to be taken with this tag this year. I think it's a good thing.

a local woman around here found a dead one on rt 7 just this past week. I got sent the picture but it was kind of blurry.

I will say though that for a tree strap I really like a rope and prussic knot style. Not sure if Muddy really makes that type. Right now I'm using my HSS one with my Muddy harness.
-
I've only used ones from your TSA harness from your treestand purchase, Hunter Safety Systems (pro series and others), and Muddy outdoors. So far I really like the Muddy Safeguard harness. That'd be my first choice.

Sold my bow... time to practice with the backup!
dbHunterNY replied to TeeBugg's topic in Bow Hunting
I wouldn't even bother paper tuning it... it's a different bow you're not used to... i'd just practice shooting it and then maybe walk back tune it if need be. seems I've had better luck with older quality bows with getting the left and right dead on from the start. I think it's because they flex less and aren't loading up to store so much energy as with the newer bows. -
i'll check mine the weekend before usually. no rush.

it's been a while but I think don lurr sent me everything I needed to know to use it in my Prohunter. If I could find it around here I wouldn't hesitate to use it over anything else.

it's important to strip down and check yourself every time you come in. also I store outer layers (Scent Blocker) in a Ziploc big bag. it goes from the bag directly into the dryer for activation. I heard that the heat kills the ticks but I have yet to see a dead one in the dryer. I've gotten them on me crawling but mostly just attached. if you get them off right away that evening there's little to worry about. still should be cautious of the signs though.

don't know where this went to but yea..... I hunt mostly private land or bow only hunting zones. I rarely wear orange.

stopped using because of this... i'll pass.

not sure... i'd use one. given a choice between that or a QAD drop away i'd go with the drop away though. just more forgiving.

I've got plenty of hunting rounds for shotgun and rifle. varmint 223 rounds I've got over 200. deer hunting (30-06) rounds I've got close to 200. a case of bird shot for 20 and 12. 22lr I've got 1400 rounds (I target shoot too, otherwise that'd be a lot of squirrels). turkey shotgun shells I've got around 50 or more. dick's has been getting in stock though.

"Haybale" Blind
dbHunterNY replied to josephmrtn's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
always wanted to build a round bale blind that looks like a round bale. -
most of the time you've got to use the Cabelas Club Visa card for your purchase to make them work. free shipping and discounted gear right now is all I've seen.

i hunt every part of the season with glasses. sometimes I've got a slight problem with fogging but i seem to be fine 98% of the time.

don't have experience with the axis... but I will say the most accurate gun I own has an accutrigger. On a great day with no wind I've clover leafed 3 shots at 200 yards. That's a lucky setup too being a factory rifle and ammo.

I agree... I've hunted successfully in Oklahoma. It was a learning experience coming from NY though. Have a QDMA co-op out here one county up and they were talking to me about starting my own. not sure if I can though. turns into a "this neighbor won't follow the rules I think, so i'm not doing it." then some complain about the amount of money you send off to QDMA. it's all child like complaints if you ask me.
-
I've only had it pull in young bucks and various doe. that's around here. elsewhere in the county is a different story. not sure if it has to do with buck to doe ratio or not. never seen an all out war of antlers here in ny... only early season sparring with 1.5 - 2.5 year old bucks.
-
just being the better neighbor I guess to keep peace. only a matter of time before the neighbor is warned again. fall is best time to turn them into steaks too, even though all aren't 1.5-2 years old. between his freezer and ours there's enough room.

I feel for ya. I had a big one that has a certain orange coat with a white face that's been around for years now. had it at 30 yards behind some weeds. had the recurve, so with 30 yards being a long shot, I waited for it to get closer. it never did.
-
it's based on principle... if the family wasn't all anti-hunting the mother would've pulled the kid out of respect for someone else enjoying certain freedoms. if you were 200 yards away with them at your back, you were abiding by law. I think you did right assuming the shots were in a safe direction. someone's freedom starts where another's ends.
