Can you keep a buck on. Your property??
dbHunterNY replied to G-Man's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
it's totally possible to have a buck spend more of it's time on your property. it won't stay on your property but the longer and more frequently it's there the better. -
Is it impolite to shoot your nieces pit bull ?
dbHunterNY replied to Nomad's topic in General Chit Chat
house and dog sitted for some friends who had to pure bred pitbulls. their names were Goddy and Capone. when they played with each other anyone who didn't know them would've ran away as fast as they could and thought they were out for blood. they never hurt each other and they were the most obedient dogs i've known. seriously they were raised with love and that every command was to be followed without asking twice. it only gets bad because the breed is capable of doing damage. bad people make bad dogs most of the time. -

... 2 weeks after the dog bit his ear. that's where i stopped reading. preventable. -
axis deer are supposedly delicious. congrats!
-
congrats. hang them whenever you can. my thoughts are against clearing "shooting lanes" though. just trim enough for a clear shot in different places. always checking straps and cables for rust.
-
seems like a sight with hunting kind of accuracy. good to see it's working for you.
-
just had a couple hens and about a dozen poults in the front lawn this morning.
-
congrats again on a great buck. looks awesome.

my wife has told me they have fabric paint. i'd use that in black. i don't see why it wouldn't be a good idea. the deer know it's there. so the window covers don't have to be camo at all.

Any Kimber rifle fans here besides me?
dbHunterNY replied to Rattler's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
i believe we raffled off one at our QDMA branch banquet a couple years ago. i was a nice gun. Kimber Hunter in 7-08 with subalpine camo stock. -
i can't speak for them but deer damage permits "nuisance tags" are separate from DMP and DMAP allocation. you can definitely get both. here the DEC won't issue you DDPs if you don't already have hunters during the season taking deer.
-
you can. you apply for DMAP tags under "custom deer management" with at least 1,000 contiguous acres. You have to give them info on management goals and how you came up with population density of adult doe. Applications are to be post marked by August 1st. we do this with QDM co-ops out here. Some areas in the WMU's are low for deer numbers but in townships were we're doing QDM on ag ground the populations are vastly different. we take at least 2X the number of expected doe per square mile and doe reduction is still pretty slow, despite noticeable. we have to do this because we use buck restrictions that protect more of the buck population than otherwise to balance things out and not have even more deer than what it seems on paper. DEC's "buck take objective" to determine deer population doesn't really work when you start passing a large portion of buck population with buck restrictions. DEC even indicates this in their yearly harvest summary for WMU's with antler restrictions. on paper without knowing a restriction exists it looks like there's no deer/opportunity. in reality 40+% of adult doe we're taking are 4.5+ yrs old. general rule of thumb for here anyway is take 25% of adult doe to maintain population and 33% to reduce it. harsher than normal weather that year or higher than normal predator numbers (not just yotes) have a lagging effect on things too. DEC does a good job at making sure there's a sustainable deer population here in NY. still, you're the one calling the shots when it gets down to a level your looking at your property and the neighbors though. which i think you agree.

i use a Princeton Tech Vizz. it has partial brightness and full on in "white" and then a red setting. Deer see detail really well when in shades of green, blue, and yellow. Red not well. so i figured red and white is good enough. a good "white" LED that's around 4500 kelvin temp with a CRI of over 80 is great for making red blood pop with color when tracking. manufacturers don't list those specs but they should.

i haven't left any of that. i have however left my entire climbing stand still attached to the tree after shooting a buck. had to go back and get it once i realized when loading everything into the truck including the deer. my brother left the chair he was sitting on, in the very center of Darien Lake state park. he explained about where it was and somehow i found it when i went back. he's left a ton of stuff. i'm a little more of a slave to my own process.

honestly my bow press wasn't even bolted down. some i can see need it though as mass weight is more off center.

all of it is a moot point. any tractor can get poorly maintained. the simpler a tractor is the better when hours go on them as they're less complicated to fix. still new features are ridiculously nice like shuttle foward/reverse, quick detach bucket, stronger hydraulics, tooless guards/panels/covers, etc. honestly you do much wrong unless you stay away from occasional grey market tractors that show up at auctions. also some series/brand/model year tractors in the size you're probably looking at have ligher rear ends compared to others. you have to know a bit about them though to start picking out that stuff.

i have to think distributor or two have sent some of it to a local beverage center somewhere close by. you've got several around. i'd try there. they won't post that you can find it at a distributor because you can buy it directly from that distributor.
