  1. Fer sure, having does around when they go into estrus are the best BB "bait" available! But .. isn't it also nice to harvest a doe for the freezer in Oct when field dressing and retrieval aren't so .. challenging!?! Possibly those that process their own venison like the cooler temps..?
  2. Do they still rebuild carbs for outboard motors? Know the only option for the past few years for chainsaws is a new carb. Along with using non-ethanol gas for small engines, I add Stabilt every time I put gas into a can. Sorry Nomad, I'm no help!
  3. If your spouse is anything like my exs, this kindness will comeback to haunt you in jewelry or clothing purchases. All part of the marriage bartering agreement, huh!??!
  4. What last two members have observed, what you're seeing isn't always going to relate to the guesstimation the DEC makes for the deer population in large WMUs. WMU where I hunt is listed as literally being over-run by deer, meaning 4-DMPs are almost given out for the asking. So .. when I'm sitting in the tree stand, I'm not seeing this over-abundance of deer in my small part of the large WMU. FYI - If you recall, new licenses used to go on sale Aug 15th, until a few years ago when it got moved to 8/1. Oh yeah, vividly remember those "Party Permits".
  5. A split brow tine isn't too unusual, but one with a kicker also is just freaky! Very cool!
  6. Oh yeah, only takes one time forgetting to turn off the illumination and finding a dead battery the following morning! Keep a spare handy. BTW - Isn't that the curse of compound style Xbows, being front end heavy?
  7. ^^^ and once you decide to swap out the crappy scope for something better, you're in the mid-price range of Xbows considering total paid for Xbow AND upgrade scope. Anyone asking for my advice, always say look into the mid-$$ range or higher. Granted, low end Xbows with inferior scopes kill deer! Xbows are definitely in the purchase category of "you get what you pay for", to a point!!!
  8. I've shopped at both Jim's and Guerin-Teed. FYI - Hard to know when owners will be working, but it's been my experience at both shops to deal with owners directly if possible! Another bow shop that's about 25mi east of Rochester is Archery Solutions. Just off Rte104 past Williamson. I bought a Bowtech from young owner years ago. Great service! Then they closed and are now have reopened. Had a neat indoor 2nd story loft to shoot at 3-D targets s/u on 1st floor. Now see he's opened an outdoors 3-D course and sells Mathews. In the past they had limited in-house inventory. Check hours before dropping in!!!
  9. As of a few years ago - The owner was knowledgeable and friendly! Son that works there .. not so much! Check their hours before dropping in!!
  10. I've sold a few things on Craigslist with no problems. Never include specific location or photos that might divulge where item is located, your email address or phone # within the listing. Couple other hints are to include that price is firm and you'll only accept cash or bank check! Of course even with a bank check, you'll hold item until check actually clears. Sad to say, but in today's world it's safer to be an A-hole than get burnt.
  11. Also included in Dell's Outlet store. Scratch n dent, warranty returns &/or refurbs from lease returned PCs. Not always a huge reduction over new items! At times their regular sales are better $$/deals.
  12. What's the "latest & greatest"? Isn't necessarily the tech advancements, but more the mfger's marketing BS to lead you to believe your current bow is sub-par or out-dated!
  13. To some point the MSRP will dictate how much more the technology for vertical bows will advance. Not completely unrelated, but a good example is the state of Xbows with some mfgers/models approaching the ~$3k mark.
  14. Yeah, that was just a matter of buying up your competitor before they surpass you. Good old Bass-Mart.
  15. FYI - Deer near the orchards up here will jump an 8' fence when apples ripen.
  16. Funny! Didn't he sound like a middle schooler - Can't blame me, I didn't know. And this comes from the state where the CDC is located! Pathetic, but funny also!
  17. Not only that, but even if you've contracted Covid-19, not been tested, have no symptoms and can still infect many until the symptoms show-up and you're officially quarantine. Nasty little trick of this virus!
  18. OP's photo looks like one of those double (frt & rear) foot prints creating what appears like a single foot print. Phenomenon has fooled Bigfooters for years. Saw a TV show where this was tested with a grizz and it did make the dbl imprint in sand.
  19. Dude, you could be shooting at a postage stamp.. all shots are still in the kill zone.
  20. Theory is men are more likely to use alcohol, tobacco products and abuse their bodies putting them in a higher risk category. More so than women would. Un-scientific, but don't you think men would also be more likely to resist any government's forced social distancing restrictions??
  21. Saw an article several days ago mentioning this pandemic has brought to life every person's real nightmare. No, it's not isolation, getting ill, debts, ect. It's dying alone with no family members at their side. Anyone that has/is going thru this, they have my heartfelt sympathy!!
  22. Probably a thing of the past, but certain "boondock" bars used to serve fried smelt in the spring time.
