  1. Trust me, I am in NO way endorsing or plan to use these!!!! Just one more hunting gizmos that is TOO bizarre or weird to believe it'll work.
  2. A yote, but the glowing eye in the background is definitely a Bigfoot! So, everyone is right! LOL
  3. Anyone seen these? Strangest gizmo I've seen in awhile! https://thehuntingcoil.com/
  4. The line in the sand others have mentioned can NOT be legislated. Laws will NOT prevent stupidity or make every hunter a clone! It happens when you, as a hunter look in the mirror and determine who you really are and how you will enjoy hunting. During this conversation with yourself, you'll decide your own ethics, right vs wrong, goals or expectations, temptations to avoid and methods to increase your hunting opportunities, while still retaining the enjoyment factor of being in the woods. This process defines who you are as a hunter. I've done this and BTW it's an evolving process for sure. New laws, neighbors, technology, physical limitations, time restraints, changing personal obligations all influence you as a hunter and your evolving ethics. Some other states have hunting ethics or a code of conduct spelled out within that state's hunting regulations. NYS does not, it merely lists what's legal & not legal. One of the other states, interestingly list a line item from its' code of conduct as - attempt to satisfy your hunting goals or expectations, while not trying to influence others. Have also seen a similiar phrase within a national bowhunter's creed!
  5. Have had a home PC for ~30yrs and have always had name brand units, by personal preference. Those "no-name" PCs you buy from big box stores are inexpensive, for a reason - cheaper components used! Not promoting any specific PC maker/reseller, but ... Last 4 PCs I've had were from the Dell Outlet, either refurbished or scratch/dent models. They come with typical new PC warranty and can be upgraded to longer or better warranties if desired. Never had a single problem with any of the ones I purchased, other than hard drives failing over years of use. BTW - If something in a PC is going to fail, likely it'll be in 1st few months. Word of advice, those super compact, slim desktop PCs are very appealing.. don't get one.! They don't promote good air flow resulting in heat build-up, the curse of computer components! IF.. you should decide to upgrade any components in the future, selection is limited as to what you can do & available space inside to install them. Know you don't want to hear this, but may have missed out on some super Cyber Monday sales on PCs! I treated myself to an early Christmas present, a brand new PC from the mfger I mentioned above. More processor, RAM and HD than I will ever utilize. Also came with a 1yr on-site warranty. Oh yeah, was ~$1/2 off retail at $450 with all the latest hardware & Win10 Pro. DOM, you should donate that 11/12yo Gateway to the Smithsonian. Just kidding, it was a great PC back then!
  6. Yeah, eventually after a long wait for sheriff to arrive and give him a carcass ticket. Not how I'd want to put venison in my freezer!
  7. Dude, you make NO sense whatsoever. You're basically arguing for the sake of stirring things up without any factual fuel for your stance. It's almost impossible to figure out where you stand on the topic since you bounce around so much. Relax, take a deep breath, get some actual facts and come back fully armed to discuss this topic with some logic. Definitely not being critical, you're entitled to your opinion! You're just getting overly defensive and making little sense at this point!
  8. Similar Murphy's Law hunting situation. Took a young guy hunting on opening day of the regular SZ gun season. He'd never shot a buck. We hunted/sat almost all day and I'd even tried to do a single person push to stir things up. Nothing! Doesn't he hit a 6pt with his car on his way home after the evening hunt!
  9. Interesting, have read just the opposite from Wildlife Biologist and Chemist! Stated that deer vs human urine have only very subtle differences.
  10. Very tragic death!!! Lot of details just don't add-up, hope they surface during the investigation.
  11. You've been a bad boy and apparently censured, didn't anyone tell you..
  12. Ahh, the curse of older blatters &/or morning coffee drinkers! I use to be also obsessed with this as part of complete scent control. Initially used a pee-bottle, until I realized I was dumping the bottle after the hunt under the very stand I had been sitting in... DUH! Never had a deer alerted by the scent of human urine since I've been simply letting it fly overboard. Actually shot a buck a few years ago that come right to the base of my ladder stand sniffing where I'd pee'd earlier. His last mistake! At least for the guys, the only real solution to this dilemma is to use a catheter. Not something I'm voluntarily going to do!!
  13. Dude, things are becoming much clearer about your state of mind after being dragged off by a female bigfoot...! Possibly a hybrid Wooly-foot running around your neck of the woods???
  14. For us old farts with failing eyesight, an illuminated dot is much easier to see & acquire the target than a X-hair! Very little to do with 1st or last light conditions, for me. Interesting, are there actually variable power scopes for Xbows? Thought they were all fixed at 3-4X...
  15. Only real men have bloody truck beds and drink Busch, right...!??! Very cool funky rack!
  16. When I bought a piece of property ~12yrs ago, had same no trespassing philosophy as you do. Went with Minuteman rigid plastic signs, More $$ than ones you linked to Voss. Ones I bought haven't faded or deteriorated at all in ~12yrs. I prefered to not attach my signs to trees. Instead I used PT 2"x2"x8' cutoff at ~6' on a 45deg angle. Using 2x2 posts you can put signs wherever you want & are much more visible than ones nailed to a tree. Just a technicality, do need contact info on posted signs. IE; name of property owner and contact info, either phone # or address. IRC, legally they need to be a min of ~600' apart. JMO, that's way too far apart to make the message clear. You know this, but posted signs are just the tip of this private property hunting iceberg!! One thing you'll want to do is keep good relationships with all adjoining neighbors. Introduce yourself, explain why you will or have posted your property, type of hunting you'll do, your hunting ethics, stand set-back distances and see how they feel about you retrieving a deer that has run onto their property. Which might mean reciprocating these retrieval rights. Definitely give them your phone #!! A little annual goodwill goes a long way, like a Xmas card, bottle of wine, venison, etc! To ease one neighbor's concerns I had to explain that when I was long gun hunting, it was from an elevated position, no horizontal shots and was always aware of where all houses were from each of my stands. May even need to give neighbors a tour of your property and show them any potential PL stand locations, orientation of this/these stands and your intent to only shoot onto your own property. Bad relationships with neighbors is a curse and can get worse over time! Any new posted signs can incite an immediate negative reaction or feud w/o neighbors knowing the facts; who, why, how, etc. Good neighbors can become your best defense against trespassers or your worst enemies, depending how you initiate the relationship. Might want to talk to them even before putting up the blatant "Posted" signs... Good luck!!
  17. Just tell fabricator to surprise you and live with it...!??! Kidding. Confused - IRC, your livelihood does NOT allow for indecisiveness.
  18. Just for everyone's DYK, there is NO way to report a Xbow harvest. It's either gun or bow (or ML). Can't assume just because a harvest was reported within Xbow's 2 week season (SZ), it was not a vertical bow kill!!!! So... the DEC will never know how Xbow useage has influenced the harvest numbers until they change Decal system to include Xbow as weapon of reported harvest. Just saying... I see a lot of parallels with OP's included story and what happens on this forum every time the word "crossbow" is mentioned.
  19. Had the Troybilt 27t with Honda engine, flawless operation & fairly quiet. No way to really enjoy splitting wood, but this splitter helped ease the pain! lol. Easily towed behind an ATV also! FYI - After rebuilding numerous carbs on my small 2-cycle equipment, went to using NON-ethanol (91 oct) gas on everything from ATV down. Never had another problem!! Also only used name brand oil additives for small engine's gas mix! In case you're not aware most shops do NOT rebuilt carbs anymore, new carb install and shop rate of ~$80+/hr.
  20. ^^^^, me too!!! Part of America's dark history that seems to have been resurrected thru the innovation of social media, Witch Hunts. As a wise musician once wrote; "...before you accuse me better take a look at yourself."
  21. From what I've read, most whitetail biologist agree that a mature buck might travel up to 5mi away from his homebase at least once during the rut. Don't think anyone knows why they choose a specific path or direction or how long this journey takes, they are simply cruising for estrus does. A deer's nose works in phenomenal ways, but to think a buck's nose leads him to a hot doe more than a mile away might be stretching those smelling powers some.... Who knows for sure??
  22. Try a small balloon stretched over the muzzle. Any breech loading ML'er is pretty water tight (resistant?), other than end of barrel. Scope was more of an issue for me. Will be 2nd year carrying my Savage 111 in 270 since county allowed rifes to be used. Still a virgin, so lets hope...
  23. As few shots as it takes to reacquaint myself with the long gun. After a few shots when we're both zero'ed in, a hunting we will go! More power to those of you who enjoy it, but I don't get anything out of punching holes in paper off a bench. BTW - Any of you actually shoot your long gun at the range/property with full hunting gear on, ie; heavy coat, pumpkin suit, etc? Or any freehand stances other than off the bench?
  24. Agree with grampy's philosophy! Maybe "searchers" should keep a database with a sliding scale of the cost to use a deer search trainer & dog!?! First time-a donation, 2nd call - a higher fee, maybe $200 and each subsequent call from same hunter or address might be doubled in $$ or service refused. Would this stop a lot of the questionable shots? Probably not, just many more unretrieved deer. Unfortunately some hunters view the deer search services as a sort of permanent get out of jail free card.
