My beam balance powder scale, plus a few of my other basic reloading tools were purchased from a Herter's catalog... Some of the other stuff ( like my first press, an RCBS JR, came from Gander..back in the late 60s and early 70s Gander had a better selection and better prices than Cabela's.. I also bought a number of scopes from Gander back in the day, all El Paso steel tube Weavers....Good, rugged, functional scopes...IIRC, my K i.5 and K2.5 were less than $50, and my K10 ( for my Rem 722 .222Rem) cost me $60....

I made the mistake of showing The Mermaid this thread... Now she wants Wooly to carve MY melon head after I kick the bucket.... I guess it's better than spending the rest of eternity in an URN on the mantle...<<sigh>>...

I'd gladly volunteer as an instructor for the " Gun Safety for Terrorists" class... Safety rule #1...The best way to check if your firearm is loaded is to look down the bore and pull the trigger...

I have done seven trips to Alaska and have spent as much as two weeks tenting camping in VERY remote areas... I love the state from June until mid September....Before and after that, the weather SUCKS....Great place to visit , but I would not want to live there...

That show and " Life Below Zero" are the only reality shows I'll watch... " Alaskan Bush People" if so hokey it makes me PUKE !

It's a great way to catch them... I have done a lot of trolling, and I enjoy it,but the long lines, heavy weights, moving boat, etc. does dampen the fight of the fish....It is also a TACKLE INTENSIVE sport... Catch a laker on a light spinning rod with a 3/4 or 1 oz. lure ....BIG difference in the fight !!....pretty simple, too...Locate the fish with your electronics, use your electric to maintain a near vertical presentation, drop the lure straight down and jig or just reel toward the surface and REPEAT....

Years ago, when I was a mere wisp of a lad, I attempted to get a skunk out of a fox set at close quarters and received a FULL FRONTAL hose down... You have to experience it to believe it...It burns when it contacts your skin, penetrates your sinuses and kind of totally overwhelms you When I got home my Mom made me strip before she would let me come in the house...I bathed in all kinds of stuff and still stunk for a week...My Woolrich coat hung in the shed for about 8 months before the smell finally wore off...
-
Yeah, but it's much more EXPENSIVE !!
-
I have nothing against you, waterat, but I wish you couldn't have a bowel movement until you gave me all of your Brownings....Hehehe...
-
Sounds like you need a Light 20 , Belgian, of course... I love the humpback Brownings...never shot one that I did not shoot well with... Nice collection, My Friend...<<smile>>..... By the way, can I move in with you ? I'm not gay, but you can tell your friends anything you want....Hehehe...

Sacre Bleu !! Le skunk de la PEW !!....

Okay....I stand corrected...I do know that at the beginning no more than 10% of the tags could be issued to nonresidents, but it must have changed...I quit getting my PA tag two years ago, so I have become out of touch.. Good luck with the draw...

Squirrel Rut is Fully ON in 9F!!!
Pygmy replied to The_Real_TCIII's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
It takes time at low to moderate temps to tenderize an adult squirrel... My favorite recipe.....Dust squirrel pieces in seasoned flour....Brown in butter with a little oil to stretch the butter.. Place browned pieces in a pan..I use 9x13 aluminum steam line pans....Add some liquid..I prefer chicken broth, to a depth of 1/2 inch or so...Slice up an onion or two over the squirrel.. Cover tightly with foil and bake at around 300 degrees F for at lest two hours, or until the squirrel is falling off the bones tender....Remove foil, increase heat to 400 or so and bake until squirrel is browned on top and most of the liquid is gone...The toughest squirrel will be tender at this point..use pan drippings to make gravy and serve over rice, taters, or whatever...
