  1. Green discolored water is great.....MUDDY high water takes a better fisherman than me to catch fish consistently... And there are MANY better stream fisherman than me out there..
  2. It's all over in this area, Chas... In some areas I hunt most of the mature beech has been affected...The saplings keep coming up, but they will probably develop it to, just like the American Chestnut did years ago.

    Perch fishing.

Pretty good, Lee ! That's 4 times more perch than I caught the last time I went fishing...<<grin>>...
  4. Recoil and muzzle blast don't bother 7600... He's got cojones as big as grapefruit and enough hair on his chest to weave an army blanket...
  5. The fishing in Seneca has declined dramatically in the last few years... The smelt are gone.....Perch fishing has become spotty at best..Many of the most avid perch chasers who own property on Seneca are trailering their boats to other lakes because they can't catch fish consistently in Seneca.. I well remember the days when there would be a hundred boats in Dresden bay during the perch run and EVERYBODY was catching fish.. The pike fishing has also tanked, and the smallmouth fishing along with it.. Many of the charter boats are fishing other lakes because they no longer can depend on finding fish for their clients on Seneca... I'm not sure what's going on there, but fishery on Seneca is no longer what it used to be.
  6. When I saw the title of this thread I was afraid our pal Wooly had subscribed to " Gayboy" magazine.....Hehehe....
  7. Besides, 7600 is a big John Wayne fan.. " You can take that to the BANK, Pilgrim !"
  8. That is MY favorite part.......YUM !!.....
  9. If those balls had numbers on them you could play pocket pool.... It's tough to win at that game, though.... Both players are nuts and the referee is a prick....
  10. Good luck with your choices...Bullet deflection in the thick stuff..ALL projectiles, including shotgun slugs, deflect when striking anything substantial... This has been proven many times in " brush busting" tests...The key is to find an opening in the brush.. That said, the .243 is not an ideal woods cartridge, because in that type of hunting shots are often made from less than ideal angles, and bullet weight can be very important if you take a shot at the south end of a northbound deer...The general max weight of a .243 bullet designed for deer sized game is 100 grains... Fine for open country shooting at broadside game, but not so good for less desirable angles.. Either the 7mm08 or the .308 will provide an extra margin of error for less than ideal angle shots, without producing overly abusive recoil...Those chamberings also perform well in short, lightweight rifles. The 30-30 is also a good proven woods rifle with enough bullet weight to get the job done, but you give up the option of an occasional long (250-300 yard) shot, which the 7mm08 or the .308 are both very capable of making..
  11. Camels give you HUMPS...Hehehehe...
  12. BTW...That is a downright BODACIOUS gobbler...Congrats, my friend !!
  13. Congrats, Nick......Great hunt !!.... For a number of years I hunted SW Georgia for hogs in early spring...I loved it...
  14. My collection goes back to 1975...I saved them all, but a few are missing due to the dog, rats, etc. Unfortunately, rather than storing them in a cool old wooden box, they are in a gallon Ziploc bag in the freezer of my beer/bait fridge out in the garage...
  15. Congratulations Belo !! Enjoy it while you can.. One of these days the missus is going to figure out what's causing them, and THEN you'll be dusted like the rest of us..Hehehe...
  16. We'll have to start calling Wooly " Doctor Duckdick ".....
  17. One reason the Rem pumps are popular in PA is because with the box mag it is quick and easy to load with the rifle out the truck window.<<wink>>...
  18. Damn !! I was going to have you pick up one of those huge deli pastrami sandwiches for me... They are delicious and they're big enough to feed me and The Mermaid for a week !
  19. I figure if I followed you long enough you'd feel sorry for me and give me a fish !!....<<grin>>.... Seriously though, the streams that I fish are all blown out and it takes a better fisherman than ME to catch fish under those conditions. Fortunately, I am retired and can wait until water levels are somewhat more desirable....Hehehehehe....
  20. That is called an " Elkaboo" or a "Wapitiboo"..... It is a cross between a blind bull elk and a nymphomaniac cow caribou...
  21. Nope...Got a funeral viewing mid day and a euchre tournament in the afternoon.... Perhaps Monday or Tuesday the tribs I like to fish may be down to a fishable level...
  22. Smelt have been considered basically extinct in Seneca for at least 20 years or so.... There are still some jumbo perch in Seneca, but they have become MUCH harder to catch over the last few years... Not sure of the reason....Zebra mussels ? Overabundance of freshwater shrimp ? Who have you been talking to about a smelt run in Seneca ? I along with perhaps several thousand other local fishermen would like to talk to that guy... if you have evidence of any smelt in Seneca in the last decade or two,, I would like to see some proof and documentation....
  23. That is..." BIG CHOOCH"....<<smile>>....
  24. Where on Keuka was your cottage, Bugsy ? I have fished Keuka more than any other body of water ..Never owned a place there( I couldn't afford the taxes ! ) but my sister has owned several places on the lake over the years AND I live close enough so I can drive to the lake, launch my boat and be fishing in less than an hour.
  25. Have a good one, Kid !!....
