  1. It could be a Trooper Special, Dealer did no know the correct name, It's an old one like me ,but it's in great shape. It has a 6" BBL.Or I could take my TC Encore 45 long colt. Have a safe and productive hunt everyone. Have to go put another log or 2 on the fire going down to 15 degrees here tonight.
  2. There is a stand near me,this thing has to be 50' up in the air, more like a mini cabin.I can imagine being up there what a view it must have of the sourounding area.
  3. All ready, clothes in a plastic bag, back pack filled, just have to heat up the thurmos and put some warmed up home made apple juice in it.Make some PJ samiches.Firearms are all sighted in.I am ready.
  4. My .357 dective special will be on my side.
  5. The problem is not just the dogs,Some of the people want a dog but are just too Lazy to train them Not to do certine things.I have many dogs in my lifetime, most were muts that other people disgarded,my father being kind harted as he was would take them in. Only one has ever bitten anyone and that was a huskey/sheppard mix and not the dogs fault a neghbor tryed to take a bone from it as it was eating. The most friendly and obident of all the dogs is the one I have now at 105 pounds a Lab./Mountian Kur mix. One of my neighbors asked why he obeys you as he does.My comment was,They are no different the one of your childen, you have to train them when they are young. But again you have to remember the all still have that hunting instink.
  6. Chc, You are right about that , I was looking at another picture when I wrote That. But I still will say buy a Rock Chucker.
  7. If you are going to buy and intend on reloading as a life long hobby.Don.t buy Cheap.Buy components that you can get bench rest quality rounds from. I started reloading just for my hunting ammo Many years ago and eventualy got hooked on bench rest shooting. My first press was one of the turrent type presses, it has sat in the closet for the last 20 years. They are good for reloading shot gun shells. But I have a file cabnet draw of various shot gun rounds. No need to reload them.I have a RCBS rock chucker press, it's a rock solid press and 99% of my dies are RCBS brand. Can't beat there quality.I have bought a good amount of supplies from Midsouth Shooters threw the years also. Hint: If you are reloading a round for one specific firearm, You Do Not have to Full length resize the case, all you have to do is resize the neck of the case and RCBS sells dies just for that. You can fire that case many times before full length resizing. Like everything else the cleaner and burr free the better. My tumbler has also sat under the bench for so long I cannot remember when I used it last. A package of neck cleaning brushes, primer pocket cleaners and a good liquid case cleaner will get it done. Buy reloading books from Bullet companies and the compsny you get your reloading components from.
  8. As I sad earlier, It does not look real, Why is the arrow so straight. And as for the ancient broadhead and low poundage bow, That is how we got it done years ago with Long bows and Recurves.I have seen and had to put down deer that were shot with rifles hit in the nose also.Long story but true.
  9. All I have to say is that the last couple of days when I let my dogs out in the morning to do there thing as soon as I put them out there nosises are up in the air sniffing.Buddy is on Meds., ear infection so he goes out more often and his nose is right up there sniffing, so something is going on here now.
  10. Rain is just going to multiply the scent. Not wash it away. Don't know where you are but they are talking about an inch of snow here tonight.
  11. Doc, just don't gedt the shakes when that big boy shows up during the day and not on the camera at night. That .270 will get the job done when put in the right spot.As said in another post, back on L.I. they jacked deer at night in the parks with 22's.
  12. Western NY, good post and I agree 100%. But the thing is to get most of everybody to think that way.I had a buck born on the property, let him walk every year just to see how he would turn out, I saw him last year and he was sporting a nice 10 point rack and good size body for our area.We will see if he showes up in his favorit spot this year.
  13. This afternoon I drive up to my gun sighting in spot,to set up a target , Had My Buddy ( 105 pound mt. Kur/ Lab. mix. ) on the back of the ATV,He loves taking rides with me.Just as I get ready to set up the target 5 does get up,they were bedded on the edge of one of the food plots, they were in no hurry to leave, and Buddy just stood up on the back of the ATV looking at them.Went back to the house to get my rifels and ammo and leave Buddy home.I get back and they are still there walking around brousing.I guess I wil have to put my Bow back on the ATV,Took 3 shots each rifel 50 and 100 yards, did not have to do any adjusting within a Quarter size hole at both distances.
  14. Nothing like a fresh caught striper, gutted and bled on the beach.greybeard you are getting me worked up,I still have all of my surf gear. You keep talking like this and I might have to pack the truck up and head to Demo.5 hour ride from where I am now.Who knows I might bump into some of my old fishing buddies. Any thing going on at Montaulk yet.Loved plugging under the Light and the North Shore.
  15. You hould have asked to see his badge or proof of being an officer. No helmet on the young one is not very smart.
  16. I do not know if is still the same as I have not hunted in Suffolk county,L.I. for many years over 15. One day at the Ridge check station a fellow comes up to the window and asks the officer there what he can do Wild dogs have kill all buy 2 of his chickens. The officer said Shoot Them Another time while posted for deer in a spot that we hunted rabits a fellow comes walking by stops ane we chat for a while, He was the son of the farmer that owned the co op land I was hunting.I ased what happened to all of the rabits that were here,He said Wild dogs got most of them. People would buy there new house, get a puppy, the puppy would chew on everything, they would take the dogs and drop them off in the woods. Many were shepard size dogs. The dogs would groupo together and hunt to survive.

    Pa buck

    Congrats on a nice buck.
  18. One of our favorite hunting spots was only 200 ft. wide x 500' deep. the 500' had a road on one end and the base of a hill on the other side. the 200' had farm fields on one side and wooded property on the other. No houses within 1000' - 2000' away. The other side ov the hill was a hunting club that would push deer over the hill to us.
  19. Pulled the card fom the trail cam facing a mock scrape, 1 fox and 1 turkey No deer yet.
  20. Private property we hunted years ago the owners had 2 big mixed breed dogs, they would drag hind quarters and othe deer parts back to the house to munch on them.I have seen them both out run deer and go right for the neck of the deer. The owners just let them do it. I guess the figured that was that much less they had to feed the dogs.As a guest what could I do, they most likley woud have said you don't like it leave. Another time on my property I was posted on opening day of rifel season and a begal and a german shorthaired terrier were chasing a 4 pointer threw my property ( DEC states that you cannot shoot the dogs ) I stayed at that spot nobody was following the dogs and they came back about 10 minutes huffing and puffing.I guess the deer got away. Now none of the locals near me have that type of dogs. I have my dogs 1 a begal and 2 a mountian kur/ lab mix @ 105 pounds not to chase animals unless I tell them to.And most of the time they are on a 25' lead.
  21. You will most likley kick yourself in your a$$ if you do not and a nice 10 pointer walks within shooting range and you shoot over or under it.
  22. Years ago when one area we hunted was open.( closed now ) we would hunt there the whole opening week( Gun season ) Slept in our trucks or camper caps.Cooked on our camp stoves in the morning,Went out to town for supper, after that had our beers and BB brandy and climed into our sleeping bags.Got up in the morning got dressed and had our coffee and bacon and eggs and went hunting, No hide your smell sprays,no showers,Just played the wind. And we got our bucks and does. And we wore red and black plad or orange outer clothes, also smoked at that time.
  23. I have noticed the new born of this year have grown larger then in previous years, it must be because of the abundant food source this year.
  24. That's Hunting. I know people that have gone many years without bagging anything. As said above maby the food source dried up.and they moved on to greener pastures. Deer travel a good distance this time of the year to fill there bellies,Bucks more so.They are not confined by large amounts of snow on the ground Yet. That is why many of us here on huntingny.com have spent a good amount of time and money on food plots to try and keep them in the area. Hang in ther the might show up again.
