  1. The DEC should play Give and Take , They will take away some of the Turkey hunting so why don't the Give us A longer Yote season. All year would be grate.
  2. Yep. get there before they are ready to bed down and when the get back up in the afternoon. I have not walked into the woods when it was dark out for the last 10 years.
  3. Grow. I had back pains for some time, then I went to see a foot doctor , I never new my right leg was shorter enough that it would actually make me stand lopsided. He prescribed a tapered insert to have put in my shoe/boot Soles. Had that done Wow no more back pain.I have Herman (the real old ) boots,Muck boots, Danner leather high boots, Pack boots, Sneakers, Chest waders. and a pair of regular leather shoes with the inserts in the soles . My ortho. doctor had a tapered insert made for me that I use in my slippers and shoes/ boots that they cannot put an insert in the sole ( as a lot of the newer molded soles ) . So I know what Mr. B is going threw.
  4. Hmm. I see I am not alone on finding shoes/boots with sewn on soles. Right leg shorter from taking foot off bike accident , then later having it fused together because of severe arthritis. The price of having inserts put in the sole is getting expensive ,so I just put an insert in a 1/2 size larger shoe/ boot. It is a shame that Herman work shoes are not made here any more , wore them for many years. The most comfortable boots I ever had were made by Wolverine, could not find them after 2 years. So as Grow. said if you find something that fits right , buy more then 1 pair at a time.
  5. I just hope you do not get to the point that I was in last year ( hunting season ) severe pain and swelling of my right hand and up past the wrist for 14 weeks , could not use them at all .After meds. and shots it finally cleared up mostly, but I can tell you when the rain is coming . It then moved to my left side , hand to sholder for 2 weeks and calmed down quite a bit , but still have pain in my sholder joint. Which the Dr. said is just worn out , which he said you can over use your body parts. There are 2 choices, 1 live with the pain or 2 operation which is more complicated then a knee or hips and takes much longer to heal. What are you going to do when you get to be SOB and my age. You are still a young lady.
  6. X2, are they still allowing you to keep on shooting does around the Ridge check station until you shoot a buck ?. Been a while since I hunted around there .
  7. Not bad should be - 6" - 7" at 300 yards.,a little bigger target then our whitetails.
  8. Them are some nice deer in the pictures.
  9. Yes I have and the last I saw it , the year before last it was a 10 pointer ( watched it and let it walk for 5 years ) it would be in the same general area every year. Some one might have gotten it 2 seasons ago , or it is reverting back to a deer with less tines, last year there was a good sized big bodied 8 pointer hanging out in the same general area. And as far as Doe's I have not shot one in 5 years . The DEC just handed out Too Many doe permits at that time and the heard dropped to 1/4 of what it was in that year. This year it is finally building up even with the doe's only having 1 fawn each in my area this year and a rough winter for them.
  10. I had a 742 Remy. in 30 - 06 , it knocked down every deer I ever aimed at.. My neighbor had a Browning semi auto in 30 -06 also he got many deer with that one.

  12. You ever see the old abandoned cars/trucks/vans in the woods, they were not gust left there because they could no be taken out, Just think about it, most of the time at the edge of a field or on a tree line. Out of the wind and rain and a nice comfortable seat . Hmmm.
  13. This is no joke some people have as many as 10 stands and blinds out there. I have hunted my property for the last 10 years, have had a number of stands and blinds set up. I have everything you mentioned on the property.I am now building a raised blind in a small clearing that is open about 50 to 75 yards all around but at the height of the platform I can see into some thicker areas and now see 100+ yards. This is an area they pass just about every morning on the way up the side of the hill and pass by on the way back down in the afternoon, they also stop to feed there in there travels. It is easy to get too with out making a lot of noise. If it is not your own property you better do a lot of scouting well before hand. LOL.
  14. Just bought 2 pints of nice big , juicy blueberries this morning.Wild blackberries a still green over this way.
  15. Mom and her fawn and her 1 year old walking around the the house eating this morning, the first time I saw the 3 of them together. Before that a young spike in velvet and his sister or mate were browzing. Must be a change in the weather coming.
  16. I have not been or hunted the Island for many years but I have seen some pretty impressive deer taken there . One was a nice 8 pointer dressed out at 250 pounds , shot with a bow and took the hunter almost a year to pattern it's route. Another was a 10 pointer which was seen by many hunters on private property and these hunters hunted all over the country not just L.I. ,Estimated live weight , many pictures and vid's. were taken of it , for at least 3 years, then it suddenly dissapered. Some think it was Jacked.
  17. One word of advice, if you are dead set on going on the hunt of your dreams ( do it when you are young enough to do it ) if you can afford it. Old age will creep up on you faster then you think. I never had a desire to go to the above mentioned places, just wanted a place of my own to go and sit and listen to the little furry animals singing and jumping from tree to tree and watch an deer or two walk buy and some turkeys ahead or behind. And on ocasion a bear might pass by also. It is all happening lately and just happy to be here. We once had a family friend that had a great business and loved hunting, He went all over the world and had a room full of mounts of just about any animal you could name , he once said to me most of these hunts were just being placed into a certine spot and Shooting an animal. The real hunting is deer hunting in New York with a friend or two.
  18. Read that this morning, If the neighbors were Ok with It why were they busting his chops. How many remember the Catskill Game Farm , I do not recall of any deer there bighting or stomping anyone.
  19. All I can say that Land Access is Not a problem all around where I now live. I think there is more DEP land now then private now around me. But who want's to drive 4-1/2 - 5 hours from LI or NYC to hunt here unless you have a place to stay. There are a few B and B places maby 2 motels and that's it. There are also a few good size spots of State land also. The deer are here ( according to the DEC ) there are also some nice bears ,. but is is not that desirable if you are not in shape , more hills to climb then flat land to hunt.Another minus to attract hunters.
  20. steve863 You are right about the drop of hunters from LI / NYC as it was 20 years ago. but there are a number of reasons, The amount of industry jobs on LI are almost all gone, No work + no people, Many of the hunters from then are no longer alive or have moved down south ( not me I moved to the Catskills ) after I retired. Hunting areas that you could hunt are now posted or out of limites . As the 10 mile river Boy Scout Camp, It was a great place to hunt with hunters from NY, PA, CO and other states. They said The Boy Scouts of America could not afford to keep it open for hunting anymore, Hmmmm. And how many businesses around it lost a good amount of money forever. And this is just one of the areas that the people from down state were willing to drive 3+ hours to hunt that are no longer there with places to sleep, wash and eat before and after a days hunt.
  21. Ha, the lats gym I was to was for PT. 10 years ago.
  22. Has the amount of hunters dropped ?. Hmm.
