  1. I plant wheat, oats, and rye every year. Also, I have established clover plots. I'm going to replant one plot in a couple of weeks with clover/chicory/and mix in some alfalfa to try. I watched some shows recently about how wonderful chufa is and how turkeys love it. I was just wondering if it would grow this far north. I'm surrounded by corn and soybeans. Thought I might try something new, that's all!
  2. Love my Bushnell Trophy cams! I bought a 5mp from Cabelas (now $129 as mentioned above and that's a great price) a couple months ago for $149. It had the run-away trigger problem. I sent it Bushnell for replacement. They sent me an upgrade to the new 2011 Bone Collector model that is 8mp and has audio with its video! NICE!! If I needed a new cam, I would jump on one of these and HOPE it had the runaway trigger problem, so I could send it back! Regardless, the 5mp models are great also!
  3. Has anyone tried planting chufa for turkeys? Wondering how it would grow in NY?
  4. Looks like it's too late... "Deadline to submit pictures is July 24th. Voting begins August 1st and ends August 14th."
  5. Done it myself before! Just take it out, fire it, and give it a good cleaning. No worries.
  6. I use the HSS Pro Series and have no problems turning around or the harness getting in my way. I do use the optional rope style tree strap though, which allows me to move around more. Also bought both my kids one. I see they now have the HSS Ultra-light Extreme, which is much smaller, lighter, and more compact. On sale at Cabelas for $109. I would also HIGHLY recommend using some type of Lifeline for climbing and descending. This would have saved me from a 20' fall 2 years ago, while I was stepping from my pegs onto the platform! NOT pretty............. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunter-Safety-System-Treestand-Lifeline/713008.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DHSS%2BLine%2Bmans%2Bbelt%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26x%3D9%26y%3D9&Ntt=HSS+Line+mans+belt
  7. Got pics of a great buck last summer from Aug. 1st right through the end of August. I eagerly watched thinking that antlers grew until they shed the velvet. I don't think he grew "at all" the whole month of Aug. He disappeared before shedding the velvet and I never saw him again until late October. I don't think he grew at all after Aug 1st, when I first started getting pics of him! I later learned that once the tips lose their bulbous appearance, they no longer grow and are in the hardening stage.
  8. Been doing the Power 90 workout everyday. Kicks my @ss, but feels good afterwards...
  9. I recorded one last week that I recently watched. A guy shot at a nice buck and I could clearly see that he hit 2-3" below the spine above the guts. I thought, Good luck tracking that one! He got down and both he and his guide looked at the arrow and said it was a "clean miss" and both commented that it is a lot better than a bad hit. My jaw dropped, as I clearly saw the arrow hit 2-3" below the spine! I rewound the recording and watched it ~10x, in slow motion, and clearly saw the arrow hit the deer. That drove me NUTS!! If they were going to flat out LIE about the bad hit, then they should have edited out the shot!
  10. I'll have to test out this "candy" theory! I don't have a high deer population at all. I don't even consider it decent! It'll be interesting to see what happens with the winter peas. I'm surrounded by soybean fields, corn fields, and apple orchards. My foodplots grow great and produce, but they just don't compete with the ag fields I guess. If I didn't already have the seed, I wouldn't even bother planting foodplots this year. Not worth the bother or expense.
  11. Has anyone planted any Austrian winter peas or 4010 peas in their foodplots over the years? Curious how they worked out for you? Been reading a lot about them over the years and they are said to be like "candy to deer". I have 100lbs of 4010 winter pea (BTW, 1/2 the price of AWP) seed that I never got around to planting last year. Planning on getting them in the ground for this fall. I must have some well fed/picky eating deer around my place, as nothing I plant in my plots can compete with the attractiveness of neighboring ag fields and apple orchards.
  12. Good God! Did you notice the claws on that SOB?? ???
  13. VERY cool!! Been wanting a bear skin rug since I was a kid! I just need to get a bear first...
  14. Very nice! He's off to a good start!
  15. That stinks....great looking plots! Was there standing corn or beans nearby to help them get through the winter? Corn and soybean fields right across the road from my property and apple orchard right next to my property. Everyone said, "Wait until first frost, then they'll start hitting it"........ Nothing! Then they said, "Wait until it gets really cold, around December, then they'll be hammering it." ..... Nothing! Then I was told, "They'll be digging through 2 feet of snow to get to it all winter."..... Nothing Then, "Wait until spring and the plots will look like a rototiller has gone through it, as they dig up the bulbs."......... NOTHING!! THEN they said, "Sometimes it takes them a couple years to learn to like them, so plant 2-3 years in a row."........ NOTHING!! Personally, in my current area, I wouldn't waste valuable foodplot space on brassicas or turnips ever again, even if the seed were given to me. BUT, that's just from my personal experience "in this area". IF I were in an area with little or no ag fields nearby to compete with, then I'd probably give them a shot. The ONLY positive thing that I can say about planting purple top turnips and radishes in my plots are the fact that they sure make a nice snack!!
  16. Can you run some water through it to see if everything is working properly?
  17. I planted purple top turnips, rape, groundhog radishes, and Biologic Maximum (mix of brassicas) over the past 4 years. They grew great, but the deer never touched them! I have ag fields and apple orchards nearby, so I guess they preferred what they were finding in the ag fields. Only one way to know how they'll work in your area, so plant them up!
  18. Love those videos!! Great shooting too!
  19. They look about as homely as the ones I've been seeing!
  20. All I've ever done is plug the SD card into the computer, go to "my computer", and open the drive to view the pics. It's always worked. Duhhh, think I figured it out! The phone was saving pics directly to the phone and not the SD card! That's why I could see on the phone, but they weren't on the SD card to view on the computer! I just need to move the pics to the SD card! :-[ Blonde moment? :
  21. Getting frustrated with something and figured there would be someone on here that could answer my question. I have some pics on my SD card in my phone that I want on my computer. I put the SD card into computer, but when I try to view the pics, I don't see them on the card. I put the card back into the phone and they show up fine there! I went back and forth, but can't figure it out? The older pics are there when I view on the computer, but the most recent ones just won't show up? Do I need to refresh somehow? Thanks.
  22. Nice! Just checked my trailcams, but didn't see any as big/developed as that buck yet! Hopefully he'll make himself seen this summer so you can see his progress!
