  1. One of my favorites, and damn I needed it today. Caymus Special Selection tonight. A really rough week at work so why not... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Who rides?! Hell yeah I ride, well...rode, had to give it up a few years ago due to a medical issue... in fact my entire family rides. I got my first bike, an RM 80 in 1979, I'll never forget my dad bringing it home hanging out the trunk of his Eldorado. When my oldest was 13 and my youngest was 8 I started the "life-long addiction" all over again for them when I brought home a trailer full of dirt bikes for their birthdays. Even my wife rides and still has a Yamaha TT 125 to put around on, last year I picked up a Honda Rancher for the new lease and she said, "well, if you're getting a toy, so am I". I tried to explain the 4 wheeler was not a toy, but a piece of equipment so I can get deer from the woods without having a another stroke, no dice, she got a dirt bike. From Hondas to Ducatis, I have purchased just about every make and model over the years. Here are a few that I had on my office computer... Thats my wife with the black Heritage about 15 years ago and me with the Yamaha about the same time. Although I can't really do long rides anymore, I am always looking and thinking about another HD, in fact I was looking at the new Road Glide...damn they are expensive. Maybe someday I'll pick up an old one just to ride around the block.
  3. I have these, the largest size available whatever that is. I wear size 14 Muck Arctic Pros and they do fit over them, but its NOT EASY, I actually have to slide my boot into a plastic bag so they slide into the cover without friction – and they don't really work all that well with a heavy boot in my opinion. You need to use a light boot/shoe to gain the most from them. This past year I did something a little different that I read on another hunting site and decided to try it. I bought Baffin camp slippers to wear under the boot blankets. No boots at all. I walked in wearing lighter rubber boots, I also changed my socks after getting to my spot on one really long hike in. Overall, it worked very well, but is another item to carry in with you, yes they stuff into the boot covers and weigh nothing, but still another item to carry. I tossed a few hand warmers inside and they were the warmest sits I have ever had. I DID actually do this in a tree stand twice. It wasn't easy, and I probably won't do it again, but for a blind it is very effective and VERY comfortable. For tree stand sits, I'm done screwing around, I'm getting some warm pack boots next year.
  4. Although bowhunting is my real passion, I don't find the desire to always be buying something new like I do rifles and shotguns. I have averaged 9 years each, on my last 3 bows. I buy a top of the line model and upgrade the accessories every couple of years. I find that it really takes about that long for the new technology to trickle down to the base-line bows and for high-end bows to make a major advancement worth upgrading to. This year was my second year with my Bowtech Reign 7 and see no reason to upgrade in the near future. I can see dropping to a lighter weight bow in a few years though. I'm also in the buy used off of AT crowd. That's where I picked up my latest bow and will never buy new again. You can buy year-old $1000 bows for $500 all day long.
  5. So true. Unless you're highly trained LE or military, you just don't know how you'd react. I am neither, which is precisely why I avoid sketchy situations.
  6. Hard to believe no one grabbed this yet.
  7. I carry about 80% of the time. I am very careful to be aware and never put myself in a situation where I would need it, but you never know when someone else will put you in that situation.
  8. Beautiful rifle. I had the exact gun in .338 win mag but sold it. I absolutely love the X-bolts, I have two medallions that are just stupid accurate. Good luck with the sale.
  9. If I didn't just buy a BLR two weeks ago I would be all over this. Good luck Dan!
  10. I think we agree. I would have to say I support it solely because it makes a statement. I'm not sure in the end it would really have any legs to stand on.
  11. Are immigration Sanctuaries legal or constitutional? They are doing it though, in clear violation of federal laws. What I think is important is that we are beginning to attack these people with their own tactics.
  12. This happened to my Weimaraner years ago. I can't for the life of me remember what was up with him, but I'm thinking it was some sort of an infection. Go to the vet.
  13. I have eaten it up to a year in the freezer.
  14. I did read not to even think about messing with it if you have a bad trigger. Neil Jones is one of two who will work on the BLR apparently, he is in PA. The other guy is in CO I believe. I actually emailed Neil Jones before purchasing it. There is no way I'm even thinking about changing it after getting it in my hands. I was pleasantly surprised to find the trigger on this particular rifle to be absolutely fine, I would even say it is very good. Maybe there were some manufacturing years that had issues, I don't know. Maybe I've just been lucky with triggers over the years, I've only ever had issues with one early 2000's Model 70 and a 700 that were both horrible.
  15. How do you like it? I really wanted the ‘06, but couldn’t find one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. At 6 lbs 8 oz, it feels pretty light in the hand and is less "clunky" than other levers I have had. We'll see though, I never thought I would find a rifle I enjoyed more than my X-Bolts, but I think this is going to become my favorite if it prints well.
  17. Same deal. I'm curious if you guys are on Macs / iPhones. I've bee having a lot of popup and redirect issues with Safari lately.
  18. I am sure I will put a scope on it before next November, but let’s face it, most of the fun with lever guns is shooting with open sights. We had a Henry 30-30 a while back that would pop clays at 100 yards all day long. Man was that a blast. I think with a .308 I’m going to want to be able to reach out a little further though and my eyes aren’t so great anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Us too. We will have to get together sometime. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Yes Evans. Weather permitting, I just heard 4-8” of snow is coming???!! I was really getting used to this nice weather in WNY. Are you a member? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. It was a tough few seconds of deep thought for sure! Thankfully I have one terrific wife, she said “you have a real problem” when I told her, then she said “damn that’s nice!” When I opened the box! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Following all of the excitement and travel of the holidays, I began to reflect on this past deer season. I wondered why in the world, with all of the scrapes and rubs, trail cam pics and early season sightings, did I not connect with a mature buck during the regular season. After many seconds of pondering, I realized... Clearly I need a new gun! I've been thinking about a new lever gun for a while, and I’m a dedicated Browning fan, so I decided on a BLR lightweight pistol grip in .308. It was not easy to find, but a special thanks to H&H in Lackawanna, Heather somehow tracked down one of the last 2019 .308s out there. I picked it up over the weekend and can’t wait to take it to the club on Saturday and break it in. I’m already getting excited for next year!
