  1. Understanding of course that there is significant difference in weight retention based on bullet construction and design, right? I can shoot a frangible lead varmint round or a bonded bullet and achieve a spectrum of bullet fragmentation. I hardly ever recover any bullets and those I do have large weight retention, sheding very little, and those recoveries are extreme quartering shots traversing long axis of animals in general. I don't believe in energy dump, want 2 holes, and fast velocities; you get that with bullets that stay together. But you can mitigate lead contamination based on bullet construction. And again you'll be faced with increased cost per shot, harder to make bullets cost more. And I have shot all copper( my 300wby loves the tsx, most accurate groups I have ever shot, hands down), and terrific terminal performance. So I have no issue with copper and a fan. I just like full information on someone touting a particular demonstration as fact.
  2. If you need to clean these kind of containers buy hydrogen peroxide at a pool store. Careful, its not the same as beauty supply or first aid stuff. I cleaned 275 totes of wine slurry(crushed grapes) for raw maple syrup and they were odor free after a few rinses. It breaks down into water, so is food safe and how industrial food plants are cleaned. About a qt in a 250 gallons left for a few days, rinse and repeat if needed.
  3. Always been a Ford guy, driving a Toyota now and like it. Drove a Chevy for 20 mos at work and I'd never even look at one if it was free. Occasionally drove a dodge but that was always broken down with one issue or another, hence the Chevy where I rotated between 2 to be able to get to jobs as one or the other would be out of service all the time. And we had an in house mechanic for service intervals, so it wasn't neglect. Not impressed at all with either of those makes. Ymmv (if the truck will run. Lol)
  4. 70k a year, how do you find time to actually fish? I thought pro truckers do 80-110k or so?
  5. Farm force cat 1 qd 3 pt hitch. Little actual use, had it on a 8n i owned years ago. 50hp rated. $90. Northern dutchess
  6. Printing can be all over the place for decent color at drugstores, cvs is the worst. Try Campos on Niagara falls Blvd at Sheridan dr. bet they'd have good equipment if you wanted high quality, but not cheap.
  7. Major manufacturers won't ship to ny, like federal or nosler. Maybe they would to ffl? but thats going to cost.
  8. Any ammo that contains more then 1% lead by weight. So yes plated lead shot is included.
  9. Outstanding. Bought my house at 24, built a shop, and paid off mortgage by 30. Hustling your ass off early sets you up for choosing your own shots later in life. Good job at parenting.
  10. New, light surface rust on chains. 10 Duke # 1 3/4 cs 6 Duke #110 $55 N Dutchess county, most weekdays Ulster near Kingston/Woodstock area.
  11. And to top it off has a bunch supporting poaching with the sss talk. Good job You morons understand it makes all hunters look like poachers right? Anti hunters live for this stupidity.
  12. Oh, and there was no way some of that hunting crew should have been on the opposite side where that bull went down in the line of fire for follow up. Absolute ridiculous and not one of them would even get a ride back to camp where I have been. I have no idea how that could have happened with a veteran crew. And that's square on the ph for not controlling that mess. That safari company is one of the most ,if not the most , expensive in Africa even dating back the 8 years ago this was filmed. And to have that is shameful at best.
  13. Ya, he looks really uncomfortable handling a rifle. It's a Blaser loaned from the guy in the hat (tony makris) Now in the end he most likely spined that bull. But fumbled for a bit on follow up and should not have taken that first shot on the run. Wife makes a great brain shot. Now to play devils advocate, what do you think a whitetail is doing when everyone preaches wait overnight, and follow up in the morning? You think that's pretty? Now he could have been more effective. But they didnt edit out hours and hours. He seems over matched for the seriousness of the situation. But he did get the job done. And I think I can qualify to comment, I'd guess I'm the only one here who has killed a couple. I've put 4 in them, first has always been a killing shot, but insurance shots on 12,000 lbs of animal are standard. I tell ph's stay put, I'm not going to stop shooting if I can see the body. No such thing as too much lead in dangerous game hunting. And I'm not an nra fan and less so of LaPierre. Hunt enough, and situations arise that can get less than desired results. I've hunted a fair bit and have two animals come to mind that I'd rather not repeat and wouldnt have looked great on film. One wounded and lost that I remember every time I pull the trigger. And another only time I have seen real bullet failure and it was ugly.
  14. Yes, but in Portugal for boar. Similar event. Huge hunting club, lots of food and social get together. Driven hunt on an appointed stand with beaters and their dogs, and pigs running all over, It was really cool. Highly recommended just for the whole event. Pre dawn breakfast, drawing for stand assignments, morning hunt, lunch, afternoon hunt, dinner, outside to see the days bag. Good stuff. I know a couple good booking agents if ever get the urge to plan a trip. Good place to start if unfamiliar with booking trips and dealing with planning. You tube " aim point wild boar fever" if you want to see top shooting. Mostly German and Austrian hunts. Guys and gals are world class. But you can be a duffer who shoots like me and have a fun time and connect.
  15. 100% And huge catfish.Vundu. Booked trip around best time for tigers, just end of dry season. They had huge rains this year and tons of baitfish around. All word is fishing will be outstanding come October. Cool tented camp that sits upon a bluff on lower Zambezi at Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe border. Fished one day there 2017 and have to go back.
  16. New Zealand scenery is spectacular just everywhere. Had a fantastic time and it was worth going. I think Barcelona Spain and the area around it,Catalonia, was pretty damn awesome. I could spend some serious time there again. Best food across the board anywhere I have been top to bottom. Nice people everywhere. But favorite? Headed to Zimbabwe for 3 weeks in fall, hunting and fishing. 8th trip to southern African countries. Everything is different, food, customs, languages, smells, animals, birds.....all of it. And it's not just the hunting, spent a fair bit of time in town and just general touring(although much centered around wildlife) I'll go until I run out of funds, haven't even scratched the surface of places to go. Already thinking to 2023 next time. Just dabbled with going to Smokies hiking a little bit here and there. Domestically I'd like to poke around that area more.
  17. Looks good. Just a general comment. Skip the hd and lowes stuff. Buy Sherwin Williams sher wood wiping stains. Bigger stores can mix on site to standard color list or can go custom. It works more like a dye with deeper fuller color. Idiot proof. I happen to also like true aniline dye stains but they can more pesky for an amateur to use. That's how furniture makers get deep color.
  18. I think everyone knows it's just a smaller portion that are slobs. Thanks for picking up afte the lazy pigs. You want to see trash, go hiking on state trails. The people are disgusting. And I hike way more then hunt and see both sides.
  19. That's no gaurentee either and still should be wearing glasses. I have a box of Fiocchi 28ga #5 loads and I ran 2 through a bolt action designed for that chambering. Used a mallet to unstick the bolt and get it open. Only time I have seen brass flow in any gun on the second shot. I sent 2 to US rep and never heard a thing from them. I have a box of Remington safari grade 375 with A frames. That's dangerous game, need to have them work stuff, it's really important. 4 of the first 8 are failure to fire, I even ran a rod thru to check for obstruction between shots for the first time ever as I didnt trust any of them. All weigh around the same and there's powder in the cases. Its spooky when you get click instead of bang. I pulled the second box apart for components, same lot number. Remington never responded to my inquiries.
  20. Cool head between him, and especially his father not freaking out, saved him.
  21. How can that be. No one is getting any shots according to main stream press?
  22. Bullets have never been better, that's the significant difference in old school and new. Shot a fair amount of deer sized animals with everything from a 223rem to a 458winmag. Shot placement and being comfortable with what you're shooting to achieve that placement trumps all. The trend is to light rifles. Avoid that. No one is climbing mountains for days with a rifle here. Put some weight in the stock if you have to. I'm not big guy, but can handle stiff chamberings, know how to shoot. Stay away from benches. Teach standing off sticks, so she can recoil with the rifle. Dry fire practice. Get a couple of snap caps so she can cycle a bolt. Cheap and easy way to get comfortable to squeezing a trigger. Have fun.
  23. Go on, pour on some gas. It's all a dumpster fire anyway on forums. Have fun. Its entertainment.
