  1. AP and Reuters, ABC aren’t US main stream enough anymore? Like I said I don’t follow much US news, so my preferences are set different. Granted I’m not much a fan at of CNN either, I just happen to watch an Anderson Cooper interview about a climbing movie I’d like to see, and it was tough to get through. Still want to see the movie, doubt I’d sit through that again. Doing paperwork all day today, and surfing all kinds of topics all over as a distraction on many places. I’m out….
  2. Does it have a 700+ horse power motor in it?
  3. Just a cursory click….and I tend to follow more general world news. There are 4 articles on my google news main page without even scrolling AP….first story on world news, 2 articles BBC Reuters npr I don’t follow the US news much if at all, so I had to google ABC news. Its the fifth story down on the left column without scrolling. Honestly, I don’t know what you folks read, or feeds you this stuff. I’m amazed at how small the source network is from folks who constantly want to champion they’re clear independent thinkers. Maybe less pod casts and more actual reading?
  4. Are you talking about the NRA plan that was cancelled? They didn’t have a license to sell insurance in NY. I carry theft and liability, valid in NY and world wide actually, through a member benefit program offered by a hunting organization. But its licensed properly. There has been a liability law introduced in NY for many years. This years senate version is S4946, its in committee if one wants to read about it. It calls for 1 mil in coverage.
  5. Things just got a little tighter for the dentist; no bail. Ex-Greensburg dentist accused of killing wife on safari to remain jailed as flight risk, threat to murder witnesses, judge rulesTORSTEN OVEPittsburgh [email protected] 28, 2022 5:29 AMA federal judge in Denver has ruled that former Greensburg dentist Lawrence Rudolph, accused of killing his wife with a shotgun on an African safari, must stay in jail because he is a flight risk and a danger to witnesses. The decision Thursday by U.S. District Judge William Martinez upheld an earlier detention order by a federal magistrate judge.Mr. Rudolph, 67, is charged with shooting his wife on a 2016 big-game hunting trip so he could collect nearly $5 million in life insurance and carry on a two-decade affair with his former office manager at the dental practice now run by his daughter. He remains in U.S. custody in Denver but wants to be released, saying he didn't kill his wife, didn't flee before when he had the chance, doesn't have a passport to leave the country and hasn't threatened anyone. The government disagreed on all of those points. Judge Martinez said there is probable cause to believe that Mr. Rudolph used a shotgun to murder his wife, Bianca, as the FBI alleges. As for fleeing, Mr. Rudolph and his lawyer argued that he hadn't fled before, always returning from international trips despite knowing the FBI suspected him of murder. The judge rejected that argument."To be sure, the defendant lacks any criminal history and has returned from his prior international trips despite knowing that he was under federal investigation," he said. "However, in the court’s view, there is a significant difference between the defendant knowing he is under investigation and knowing he has been indicted by a grand jury for foreign murder, a charge that potentially carries a life sentence."The judge also agreed with the U.S. attorney's office in saying that Mr. Rudolph's wealth, estimated at $27 million in assets, provides him with the "means to flee." Mr. Rudolph lives in Phoenix but has a vacation home in Mexico.Mr. Rudolph also had argued that health problems precluded him from fleeing, but the judge said his lawyer hadn't provided any medical evidence to bolster that contention."Moreover, there is evidence that the defendant’s health conditions are not so serious such that they prevent him from traveling to remote foreign countries to hunt big-game animals," Judge Martinez said.Travel records and interviews indicate Mr. Rudolph flew to Ethiopia in May to hunt leopards, for example.Mr. Rudolph's lawyer had also downplayed alleged threats his client made, chalking them up to an "abrasive personality."But the FBI said Mr. Rudolph had made monetary offers to have people killed. An agent testified that Mr. Rudolph had tried to hire a Nigerian hitman to travel to the U.S. to "shoot [a co-worker] in the head" and that Mr. Rudolph indicated he would shoot the co-worker himself. The agent also said a former employee at the Greensburg office recounted that Mr. Rudolph offered him $25,000 to have someone killed."And [Mr. Rudolph] reportedly went on to ask this individual, who appears to be Hispanic, if any of his hombres could come up from Mexico to facilitate this," according to the FBI."The serious nature of these threats, supported by the specific factual details of those threats, weigh heavily in the court’s determination that the defendant, who faces a life sentence if convicted of foreign murder, poses a danger to the community and the specific witnesses who may testify against him at trial," the judge ruled. The FBI says Mr. Rudolph killed his wife Oct. 11, 2016, and then filed life insurance claims through seven companies for a $4.8 million payout. One of the companies is in Denver, which is why the case was indicted in that district.First Published January 27, 2022, 5:35pm
  6. I’ve done lots of work in that area, know some public land spots. PM me if interested, I’m not deer hunting these days…..
  7. Congrats, nice area. And you can go to Stew’s in Danbury just minutes down the road.
  8. Theres nothing to spray in a 3rd generation Tacoma after 2016. The bed is composite, and there is no metal to spray. But there a couple weep holes at the head, and folks put a bed mat in just to keep stuff sliding around. I use a piece of epdm roofing, but they make some nice fitted mats both aftermarket and oem.
  9. Into big post counts? Maybe thinks that means something else?
  10. FWIW….. There have been plenty of times that statue had been targeted for removal since the 60’s. In the mid 80’s I was in architecture school and the controversy of statues was often discussed as a social context issue in planning public space. None of this is new, including the confederate monuments. That was a big topic in many architecture periodicals at that time, and we covered it in a history course. The Natural History Museum even has a web page and exhibit on the origins of the statue and how it has been interpreted differently as time has passed.
  11. When I priced for my 17’ Tacoma it was about the same, I don’t drive it much and a cheap cover is working out. But don’t know what it would cost now and I bet the wait time is up there for a matching color.
  12. I don’t need any real live friends. I got all of you. xxxooo
  13. I felt like at some point Candid Camera crew was going to pop out and say jokes on you. No one is going to pay you THAT. What I can’t figure is they have to now sell it for a profit. How? Would someone really pay that kind of number for a used vehicle? Guess so.
  14. In 2021 Ruger had 570 MILLION dollars in sales. 30m is just a tax write off and a competitor didn’t get the name. Get salvage value for some equipment and inventory….. I don’t think they care. From what Ive read, just sales through Lipseys and special runs, put Ruger in the black for a year. And thats just one distributor that unless you are into Ruger number 1’s, most here wouldn’t even know.
  15. I did a trade in and worked a deal in an hour tonight. In the end a little haggle on price, a fair amount of negotiation on the trade, a bit of a rebate. What a crazy time to buy a car; they gave me 10% more then I paid for a 2015 vehicle I have owned just over a year and put 22K miles on.I put three oil changes and an inspection into it. Work covered the insurance and paid for the mileage. First time I ever made money on a car, Its nuts. Good luck with new ride.
  16. The sheep tags sell high as they are a major fund raiser for habitat/research/relocation projects/etc. The money generated goes directly to the cause of sheep preservation. The marquee attraction also is they are usually not unit specific or date specific. Any unit, anytime during the appropriate season, for the respective state or reservation. Juxtapose that with say SCI’s auctions; they fund SCI. Yes some trickles out on limited projects at the headquarters level (and most via the individual chapters); but bidding this years auction hunt with Trump Jr. doesn’t go to bear research or habitat. Its about getting a pic with Jr. They are even auctioning a used rifle of his. What’s SCI funds tend to be used for is political lobbying and lawyers.
  17. On Taxidermy.net many years ago; one of the big names started a fake account and posted a picture of a live deer as a mount like he was a beginner. All the ‘experts’ there picked it apart and all the ‘mistakes’. It was classic. Good luck with the new digs.
  18. I’d love to go back to Spain, I thought that was just awesome on every level when I did some hunting and tourist stuff. They hunt roughly Sept. onwards and what I’m trying to do is bookend the front part of a trip with an ibex and travel onwards to Zimbabwe for a buffalo or 2. I’ve bought auction hunts before, and at a decent discount, the Spain hunt could be just a fun time; with no pressure and no need to upgrade beyond a nice representative animal. That trip was a good value at its selling price as 2 out of the 4 ibex species are high trophy fees in general. And I know of the outfitter. Have to do a ton of research before bidding on these, every hunt is structured different with conditions. What I really want is to do a tur or ibex species in Asia, but the political situation in that area and the Russians making noise in Kazakhstan, messing with the Ukrainians, and political strife with US and NATO and corvid in Russia; has me unsettled to drop a deposit on a hunt there at this time. I did Zimbabwe this past fall, and feel pretty certain I can make that situation work even if things get a bit stupid with airlines and such. On the front end things don’t happen the African outfit will roll money forward, on the backend between the both of us we have enough resources to get me home.
  19. Blah, blah, blah So what your saying is my google research doesn’t make me an expert? But my source was a you- tube video that got lots thumbs up Get with the times, the right to spew ignorance is just as valid as facts and knowledge.
  20. https://www.onlinehuntingauctions.com/The-Sheep-Show-2022_as73898 High bid of 360,000 for Montana. Bid the Iberian Ibex Slam but came up short….. Might try at something at SCI auction.
  21. The Feds are prosecuting this. In 2018 they prosecuted almost 80,000 cases. There were just over 300 acquittals. It takes time when the crime was overseas and there’s no need to rush; and they only bring a case when they have some strong evidence and ducks in a row. Theres a bad history with the accused and SCI where he was president. Lots of back and forth chatter, under cover you tube videos……its a soap opera. With all the back and forth and accusation’s of impropriety at SCI; I haven’t bothered with their convention in some years This has some buzz in African safari hunting circles obviously; I heard about it in the Johannesburg airport from another hunter when it happened.
  22. Sorry to hear….. I have 5/16 tubing, but no buckets. Bascom has used aluminum for 5 bucks each in stock. You should call them, they often have folks offering trade in stuff, and if they have someone interested they will call you before putting on sale in the warehouse.
  23. Port Elizabeth….Summerstrand area has a good street market on the boardwalk. Coachman restaurant (good steaks) and in same building The Ocean Basket. Both have outdoor seating overlooking beach. Something Good Roadhouse same area was really good. Theres a Nando’s there too and no trip to SA is complete with out a trip to one (grilled chicken with peri-peri sauce, its a fast food place). Stayed at guest house Windermere, nice rooms; outstanding breakfast, one street off main ocean Addo’s fun, just down the road from PE. Not huge, but plenty to see and convenient for many folks to see wildlife. Tons of birds if you are into it; “Pocket Guide from Ian Sinclair” is a great reference and covers most of regular sightings. (Southern Africa has well over 500 species, not uncommon to see 40-100 different in a day) The tomb for serious birders is “Roberts”, great app for smartphone with calls. Pack hard bags for checked luggage. I’m using Pelican Air, but any hard case copy will do. J’berg airport is not great and luggage theft in checked bags and soft sides and duffles are an easier target. Take a extra wallet for a coupe hundred in small bills, singles/fives/twenties. Easy to grease the way or tips and not flash cash. City Lodge is attached to airport if you overnight in J’berg (Ive stayed there 4 times) and the other hotel The Intercontinental, has terrific restaurant. (Its just a pricier stay, you can walk to both from inside the airport) With lower hunting pressure for last 2 years, trophy quality is up, and April you’ll be before main push of hunts. Should be able to be a bit selective for Kudu and Impala. Warthog are hit and miss depending on property, its often rocky on many areas there and tusks get worn down. But you can always get lucky or if there’s some agriculture around. Best Impala Ive shot was free range in East Cape, and Ive shot more then a few. Have fun…….
  24. Actually I didn’t intend for the post to expand to anything other then deer hunting. International hunting a whole boutique activity not covered in the context of this forum and carcass utilization is a structured part of those hunts. For myself its all about the pursuit, a kill might be an end result, but not the point of the hunt. And recovery is a huge part of that program, even if the meat is not for my own use. Well made decisions ,well executed shots ending in efficient kills given the ever different sets of circumstances encountered. I place a premium on knowing my firearm, and the effectiveness of a shot presented and if I should take it or not given the chambering, load, distance, etc. I have a co worker that thinks I’m evil incarnate for donating a deer, even though I paid for my tags and take the same chance as anyone, so just wondering what exactly is so bewildering about hunting without filling ones freezer. Everyone doesn’t have to have the same exact motivation to be considered a hunter in my view. My co worker can’t grasp that either and it was a recent topic with several hunters on a job site.
